  1. Very excited about this, going to buy a couple!!!!
  2. Thanks guys! Jon, yeah "driller's wrist" about covers it! From reading the Ginter book on the SB2A it is probably a good thing that it never saw combat! Underpowered, wing fold mechanism not strong enough to work consistently, tendency to shed various canopy sections in a dive. That coupled with Brewster essentially being shut down mid-war due to quality control issues all did not bode well for the SB2A. For all it's faults the SB2C was vastly superior! And as to the "above ground" translate it as saying "Any day you are not dead and buried is a good day!"
  3. Thanks to Gil Hodges for the kit. The fuselage, wings, tail plane, main gear, propeller and canopy came from the kit. The interior was built up from modified Pro-modeler SB2C interior parts, I used resin wheels, wheel wells and engine for the SB2C and used the kit parts as a template to cut gear doors from a resin set for the SB2C. The joy of drilling 300 holes for the divebrakes(such a joy) but it is done and now since I have built it someone will do a kit in resin. Decals from the spares box and the cat on the bomb was a loose decal I found in the box but have no idea what it's from but thought it added a little something to a pedestrian scheme of an also ran aircraft.
  4. Forgot to add that all are resin except parts from the P-61B donor kit for the F-15

  7. Jon: I used the recommended tamiya colors in the instructions.
  8. This is the 1/48 resin kit by AJP Maquettes. The resin in this kit is gorgeous. The wing is three solid resin pieces. The fuselage consists of two sides, full bottom, rear cabin top, cockpit top and nose piece. The parts go together very well. You get a basic passenger cabin and cockpit. I added a wood panel interior and repurposed some HO scale bells as cabin lights. The biggest issue for this kit it the various struts that go into the engine pods as well as the landing gear. The main gear support that comes down from the engine pods are the only ones included. The rest must be made of brass rod (included). The kit instructions give you the measurements to cut the stabilizer supports but that is it!!! The rest must be measured and trial and error fitted. I used 1mm brass rod to form the main gear and then covered this with a piece of aluminum tubing then used a marble rolling pin to create an airfoil shape. I scratch built the support that goes from the top of the engine pods to the bottom of the wings. The rest of the struts are contrail strut material. These were measured and cut and place with the Mk.I eyeball based on pictures I had. The external control parts were made from plastic and the smallest straight pins I could find. EZ line was used to replicate the control wires. The decals in this kit SUCK!!! Fortunately fellow Hyperscaler Slawomir Przymusiak was kind enough to redo and make them look really good, Thank you again sir! After 2 ½ months she is done!!! If you want a 1/48 trimotor this is your only option. It is a great kit but the simple instructions with the measurement omissions and bad decals put this squarely in the very experienced modeler category. I am pleased with the end results . Hope you like it.
  9. Nils: Thank you! The Aviators re-popped the kit here in the US and added a white metal engine, prop, exhausts, pitot tube and control stick. Biggest issue is the float posts and getting them in the right place at the correct angle. Hub
  10. This is the IPMS Norway kit with The Aviators upgrades obtained from David Cooper(a great trader by the way). I added bits to the cockpit and weapons from the spares box with new decals from Slawomir Przymusiak and John Currie. Vought Kingfisher beaching gear from SAC. While I have a lot of experience building resin kits and limited run kits, Vacs are another matter entirely. I have done 3 Koster conversions for the P-47 which are quite easy to build and a Sierra Scale Bereznyak-Isayev BI-1 another good kit. The IPMS Norway kit is a difficult build and I know where every flaw in this build is. But given its difficulty I am happy with the results. If you want an N3PB in 1/48 this is your only option and it is not for the faint of heart! I was inspired to get this out of the stash and build it by Tom's C-17 vacuform build. While not up to his standards I am pretty happy with how it turned out.
  11. wrong place sorry
  12. Tom: As said before fabulous job. As we say over on this side of the pond, "Combat models! Company name and accurate description of the building process!
  13. Truly inspiring work and an outstanding achievement in modeling art!!
  14. Matt: While I am not Tom, I would try vacs from Falcon, Sierra Scale Models, Koster Aero Enterprises or Dynavector. Maybe start with one of Kosters conversions to get your feet wet. Hub
  15. Great work and stunning results! As I have always said about Combat Models: "Company name and accurate description of the building process!" You have really done a great job!
  16. Looking good! This is a very inspiring build!!! Thank you for sharing and for doing it so well!
  17. Like Simon said, i would try to light sand them.Especially along the sharp edges to help them blend in a little.
  18. This resin kit was pretty basic. I added some internal structure and bits for those that look in the nose or cockpit glass.Biggest issues were that the port fuselage was slightly different in diameter than the starboard side which required a lot of clamping an slow gluing. Then all of the clear parts were either not completely formed or way undersized. The only one that was not was the clear resin tail cone. Wish I could have gotten the match for Dutch Beige but went with the light tan of previous builds so they all match. All of the windows were traced onto clear sheet the cut and sanded to fit. Still did not get a couple quite right. Only clear vac parts used were the cockpit and nose glass. Still it was quite enjoyable to build and I can add another truly unique airframe to the collection. I also included a shot of the T V with the DXXIII I did last year.
  19. All 1/48. After a brief hospital stay sidelined me for the end of Sept. I have finished off a few projects. RS Models Fokker D XXIII. This was not a bad kit but did take a bit of putty along the fuselage to wing and the radiator intake. Xuntong IL-4 Built out of the box except for adding an MV lense for the landing light. Great fit and no issues building to report. Ardpol Yak-23 This is a resin kit that went together very well. Only issues were the dozens of parts that make up the landing gear and several other small parts that are not shown anywhere on the "instructions/exploded drawing". That and cutting and fitting the vacformed landing light cover onto the splitter in the intake!! Done as the one that was "spirited" away from Yugoslavia, tested at Wright-Pat and the flown back to Yugoslavia for the Yugoslavs to return to Romania. Also used Deluxe materials liquid gravity and it worked beautifully. Lastly, Tamiya Mig-15 built out of the box. Lots of fun!
  20. I am in the USA and have been looking for one!Would have put this in the wants but don't have enough posts yet. Thanks Hub
