  1. Hello all, Here is my Hasegawa D3a1 Val “Midway” kit. The subject of my build is from the IJN Hiryu first strike at the USS Yorktown June 4th 1942 at the battle of Midway. This aircraft represents WO Iwao Nakazawa (pilot) and second shotai leader Special Duty Ens Shimematsu Nakayama (observer/commander). Their attack scored a hit squarely midship with their ordinary bomb at 1214 hrs. This weapon detonated deep inside the hull, damaging the uptakes to the boilers and extinguishing the fires in all but one. Yorktown slowed to six knots as black smoke billowed from its midship wound. They survived their attack and returned to the Hiryu. The build: I added rivets and mild oil canning effect to the exterior. I also used Eduard photo etch set and Wolfpack wing fold. I found the wing fold set very good and easy. Paints used were Floquil INJ Sky Gray and AK real color IJN Dark green. The deck was provided by Tony Quataro “The Deck Guy”. Photo's were done with my Iphone. Rod
