...and once again, this very aircraft actually flew.
Hi Bjorn!
Yes,,I know it actually flew! Should have made that clear in my comment. My bad!
.
It's a very attractive colour scheme too. So much nicer than the drab, dull, totally boring grey service finish!

for the Gripen/Viggen, the aircraft never flew
Doesn't invalidate the choice of subject though. There are numerous kits of aircraft that "never flew" . I'd hope there would be some sort of mask included for that scheme!

Overall a very mixed bag of kits here from Italeri. Almost no new stuff, as all too aften happened over the last few years, some very interesting kits finally returning and some weird choices
Starting from these, why reissue the Esci Tomcat ??? Apart from the recessed panel lines this is worse than Italeri's own kit, less accurate, less detailed and worse fitting. If I had no other choice I'd rescribe the Italeri kit rather than buy an Esci one.
Of the various reissues, soem are nice to see, the F-5A of course but also the 1/72 CR.42 that has not been easily available lately. And then there are the ones not coming from their moulds... good to see another Fujimi Skyhawk, with this and the ones from Hobby 2000 there will be less need to go hunting them on the web. I'm curious to see what T-33 they will rebox, if the Platz one it will be great. If the Heller one, less so.
I'm also glad to see the carrier deck section back, it's IMHO quite a decent kit, I may buy another for my USN models
I'd agree with that summary. A bit underwhelming to say the least. Personally, I have zero interest in yet another F-35 but, the reissue F-5 and , SM-79 make up for it. Another F-111 is always welcome even if it is another reissue.
Certainly not impressed with the TU-22M3, A-7 Corsair or, MiG 23. I assume these are the less than stellar Esci original kits
As for re issuing F-14s, Italeri are not the only culprits.Looks like Airfix is (unless I am mistaken) reboxing it's own ancient F-14 in Top Gun guise! With their arrangements with Academy, one might have hoped to see the Academy kit in the Airfix box

I am guessing that the TU-22M3 is not a reboxed Trumpeter kit but, the rather simplified and basic Esci kit from the 80s.
I am also assuming that the Mig 23 and A-7 Corsair are also the old Esci kits?
Good to see the SM-79 again!

That was good but i thought them flopping around inside the Millennium Falcon while Chewie and Rey were fighting the Tie fighters was just as funny.
You mean the one sliding down the window after being thrown against it by the acceleration?
. Actually, I thought a nice touch was Mr & Mrs Porg & family nesting in the Falcon cockpit!

I thought id feel that way about the Pirgs in “The last Jedi”. In reality though I actually wound up liking the dang things, as they added a bit of comic relief in some scenes.
They were so damned cute! Of course, they weren't a major part of the film and, they were very funny when used!
The scene with a pair of them looking mournfully at Chewbacca as he was about to eat his dinner of roasted Porg was hilarious!

@Albeback52 glad you like it. I may not be popular with this opinion but it’s even better than Voyager!
Yes Tilly is annoying (very). It’s not Mary Wiseman’s fault, but her character needs to develop.
Trevor
You're right not her fault so, apologies due to Ms Wiseman!
! I actually disliked Voyager so, from where I sit , anything could be better!!

Three hours of my life wasted. Most of what I was going to say has been covered already so, I won't bother repeating. Basically a disastrous mess.
Take my advice. Read the book. Based on this and, their recent "adaptation" of Dracula , I'm going to be very wary of any future attempts by the BBC to "adapt" any other classic novels.

I couldn't get my head around the works of Dickens so I havent seen it.
But, I thought they went seriously wrong with the much (over ) hyped War of the Worlds! That was a tad disappointing. As is their "adaptation" of Dracula.
Definitely a case of "ignore the BBC and read the originals" as far as I'm concerned .

Like a breath of fresh air. Certainly breathes new life into a rather tired and very staid Star Trek format. I've watched both seasons.
I think a lot of people are looking through rose tinted spectacles with their negative comments and comparisons with the original Star Trek stories.
It's a lot more imaginative and, I think it's a refreshing change that the writers are now diverging from the nicey, nicey, touchy feely, pink fluffy bunny world that is the United Federation of Planets we know so well.
I loved the alternative universe storyline ( remember Mirror, Mirror?) . Michelle Yeoh's character as Empress Georgiou was a spectacularly nasty piece of work and, I thought it was great to see her back in Season 2 along with the Section 31 subplot which, is something else that flies in the face of the original concept and, will doubtless upset the Star Trek geeks!
Blood, gore, serious violence, dismembered bodies ,torture ,some seriously scary looking Klingons and ,swearing! What's not to like!
.
To be sure, some cruddy stories. I particularly hated the one with the time shifting Harry Mudd and,I have to say that the late Roger C Carmel's portrayal of this likeable rogue was the better of the two. A shame he was only in two episodes!! I didn't like the new version of Mudd.
Some very irritating characters though. Ensign Tilly being the worst by far. Definitely a female version of Wesley Crusher.
.
Wasn't too sure about Captain Pike to begin with but, I think the character turned out very well (spoiler alert) - his glimpse into the future and, his subsequent fate was a good touch I thought.
Overall, very impressed and looking forward to Season 3. Hope this time they lose Tilly in a wormhole or something. Definitely looking forward to the Section 31 spin off series

Definitely 15 out of 10. As an example of sheer courage and determination to survive in appalling circumstances this film is hard to beat. Completely enthralling.
I did however cringe somewhat when Baalsrud
amputated his own,frostbitten, dangerous toes!

Well, I have read the Bram Stoker original and, although the style in which it is written initially makes it a little difficult to get to grips with, it is overall a beautifully crafted piece of work.
Unfortunately, this "adaptation" was not ,in my view, an adaptation for the better. The final part was, tedious in the extreme and I actually found it difficult to sit through largely because my attention started to wander. Certainly nothing like as enjoyable as the 1977 version featuring Louis Jourdan as Count Dracula. Of course, nobody could ever best the late Christopher Lee as Dracula. With his towering height, handsome, yet sinister features and, the trademark cloak, he simply oozed menace and, pure evil!
On A slightly different note, I have to say that I was totally underwhelmed by the seriously over hyped adaptation of War of the Worlds. Don't know how the BBC managed it. It just didn't work and, I'm sorry to say it wasn't a patch on the original story. The major set pieces ( the opening of the cylinder, appearance of the first Martian, the battle between the Thunder Child and her sacrifice in destroying two of them) were reduced to, well nothing really.
I think the biggest issue I had was with the characters. They were,to me anyway, more irritating than convincing. The original format told through the eyes of the narrator actually worked far better. At least in the opinion of this reviewer! Three hours of my life wasted

Well, I enjoyed it. As I enjoyed The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and, particularly Rogue One. Perhaps my "problem" is that , unlike a lot of people , I simply view these films as pieces of entertainment?
I'm not interested in analysing them in forensic detail or even going into geek mode and complaining bitterly that this, that or the next thing doesn't really happen in the "real" Star Wars universe.
The one film I refuse to watch though is Return of the Jedi. And that was because an otherwise good action movie was reduced to a farce by those ridiculous ,pathetic teddy bears.
I hated those Ewoks. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put them into the film deserves to be trampled to death by wild Banthas!

I've just started both of the above. I have to say that I love The Expanse and was so pleased to find the latest series was available just a few days ago. I really enjoyed the previous series of Lost in Space so have high hopes for this series too.

I was hooked on the Expanse right from the start. Less impressed with Lost in Space though. I never even bothered watching the whole first series. Very unimpressed.Found it all a bit tedious. Best character was the robot. It never spoke! Bill Mumy's appearance was a nice touch though

Finished latest series of The Expanse last night on a cliffhanger so hopefully there will be a series 5 next year , Burn Gorman really plays psycho-nutters well.
Good isn't it!
. I was kind of a late convert to The Expanse too. My partner and I binge watched the last two seasons over a couple of weekends.
Intelligent and thoughtful sci-fi.
I think Burn Gorman is a very under rated actor. His character as as erratic scientist in Pacific Rim was actually quite amusing. Not exactly true to form! But, you're right about the psych nutters! His characters in Game of Thrones and Man in the High Castle were really nasty pieces of work!

Hadn't heard about this one but, am kind of hoping that the new Airfix 1/72 armour range might include British post war AFVs.That of course is likely to be some way off!

Is the whole kit resin? It says "Resin Model" on the box art. I'm guessing that will make it quite pricey. Nice to see though, and I hope we'll see a Lufthansa variant.
Steve
It's shown as a resin kit on the Hannant's website. Full price £199.99 but, 10% discount if you pre order.

The K/C-97 was a game changer for Academy - for years and years it had topped the 'most wanted' polls, there was apparently 'huge' demand for one. In the end the kit was a poor seller. 'Too expensive' was one claim, but you could argue you either want a 1/72 KC97 or you don't! (Added to which it was a lot cheaper in Korea than in the US and elsewhere). Academy didn't do any large 1/72 aircraft after that.
Although Airfix have in the past said they weren't going to re-box other people's kits anymore, one of the things I've learnt is not to take everything they say at face value and also things change - the Academy kits gave them an instant 1/35th range, which was a precursor to be able to launch their own kits (Cromwell). And funnily enough, their previous reason for not doing 1/35 had been that they needed a range of subjects to open up new market sectors.
That's a pretty fair comment Dave. I'd heard also that these kits were apparently ones that modellers were "crying out for" only for them to turn into dust gathering shelf blockers when the modellers that were "crying out" for them suddenly became quiet.
It's a shame. I didn't think they were that expensive to begin with either. Mind you, I was in full time employment then!

Last done in the 2008 re-release of the Academy B-17G, if I recall correctly
Think you're right there. That was a decent kit. I'd like to have seen the B-17C/D but, I guess that is a bit optimistic
!
There are a number of great subjects currently not available :B-29/B-50 and, C/KC-97 to name but a few. I think they also did a 1/72 Stratocruiser?
Not sure if they sold all that well though. Except for the B-29s I haven't seen any of the others at anything other than totally silly prices

, The Airfix MR. 2 is currently selling through some on-line suppliers at around 12% over RRP, at that price they’ll be keeping them a while longer. That doesn’t suggest dumping to me, that suggests lack of supply. I’ve only got 4 of ‘em and, whilst it’s not Airfix’s finest effort, it’s a long way from their worst of recent years and is, in a number of ways, more accurate in outline and detail than the Revell kit.
Personal choice I guess. For all the very subjective comments flying around when both kits were compared, I still prefer the Revell kit .
I cannot tell if anything is "inaccurate" just by looking at it so, it passes the TLAR ( That Looks About Right) test! It is not As full of extraneous details that won't be seen after assembly and, it went together like a dream.
Detail in Airfix kit was excellent but fit of parts was atrocious. Certainly looking forward to building the Revell MR3
Getting back on track, I was kind of hoping the partnership with Academy might have seen some of their aircraft kits being issue under the Airfix label. The new 1 /72 armour range is good news even if the initial subjects were unimaginative though perhaps unsurprising.
Definitely be up for the new Dog fight Doubles, reissued Beaufighter and,,Lancaster II. Good to see the Javelin again but,at £60 a pop, I will pass on that one.

Having build both the Revell aew2 (unsuccessfully) and airfix AEW (ongoing) I have found the reverse to be true
Fair enough.
The Revell kit was a delight to build and, I look forward to tackling the MR3.
I very nearly gave up on the Airfix MR 2 which, is not something I would do lightly. It lingered on the shelf of doom for 3 months before I could bring myself to resume work on it!
