With all due respect, they don't actually require a single penny to be spent on aftermarket resin frippery to "look good"! That is the modellers choice. They could equally choose to (a) build as is, straight out of the box ( as, I suspect most do) or, (b) not to buy at all! I would suggest that most customers are satisfied that their model "looks good" enough as it is without fussing about over individual details.? Now, I have actually built Trumpeter Mig-23 MF & MiG -27 kits. found them to be nicely detailed and engineered kits ( as with most Trumpeter kit I've built) I enjoyed building them. They certainly look the part and, I'm happy with them. Describing them as "awful"/"fatally flawed"/ "unbuildable " (to use current trendy descriptions) is, in my humble opinion anyway, a little exaggerated. It is of course all very subjective and, definitely in the eye of the beholder. I am of course well aware that such a laissez faire attitude does not sit well with some but, what the hell. Some of us just like to bash away regardless. It's how we enjoy the hobby. Allan (sits back to await the righteous wrath of the purists!

Israeli Air Forces Mirage IIIC? A new Mirage would be nice. Israeli or USAF F4 Phantom? Although, with an abundance of kits of the J-79 Phantom around, I guess Airfix won't be in a rush to produce one. PRC Mig - 17 v Republic of China F-86?. Allan

Airfix Heinkel He111 H-6 Motörhead “Bomber” Special
Albeback52 replied to Sebastien's topic in The Rumourmonger
More than likely! I remember when the Airfix TSR 2 appeared. Masses of them turned up on Ebay at vastly inflated prices. The worst I saw was £100!. Someone had actually posted a question to the seller asking why such a high price. The reply ( and, I kid ye not!)was " Dunno mate! I'm just doing what everyone else seems to be doing"! Allan. -
So, that'll be the rumour based on hearsay and backed up by speculation following a comment from someone at one of Mystic Meg's tea leaf readings?
-
Fair comment. I suppose the alternative then would be providing a multi section fuselage with all the associated alignment issues! Maybe not such a good idea after all! Allan
-
Just a passing thought but, would it not maybe be practical to produce a basic kit with the short fuselage and, provide inserts for the stretched version? This would of course involve a bit of cutting but, no more than would have been necessary for using the old Flightpath conversion set? Certainly not beyond most of us surely? Allan

Airfix Heinkel He111 H-6 Motörhead “Bomber” Special
Albeback52 replied to Sebastien's topic in The Rumourmonger
Or if you are lucky enough to get more than one of these kits, use the spare decals on the Lancaster/B-17.? Incidentally, for anybody interested, Wonderland here in Edinburgh has the kit available to pre order. Apparently available from 1st November. Allan -
Airfix Heinkel He111 H-6 Motörhead “Bomber” Special
Albeback52 replied to Sebastien's topic in The Rumourmonger
Interesting! I have a spare mid upper turret from an Airfix Lancaster! Might fit the bill! I believe this issue is a means of using up existing stock of the Heinkel kit. However, as it will include the original decals as well, now might be a good time to stock up on Heinkels as I guess the kit is being withdrawn from the catalogue Allan. -
Airfix Heinkel He111 H-6 Motörhead “Bomber” Special
Albeback52 replied to Sebastien's topic in The Rumourmonger
If they release the Angel Interceptor as a new 1/72 as opposed to 1/100 scale of the original then, I'd be up for that!!. As to the Heinkel, I'm no Motorhead fan but, this is one I must have! Pre ordered! Allan -
I guess the Dragon 1/35 AT-AT was one of the casualties? Allan

For "speculating", you surely mean "fantasising"? For myself, I much prefer the howls of outrage and, the outpourings of frustration from hordes of disappointed modellers whose current fantasy (a k a sure fire best selling goldmine of a kit) has yet again not materialised. Can be very entertaining! I'm not going to speculate /fantasise here because I am sure Airfix (and others) will produce something I like but at the end of the day, it is all a bit of fun. Airfix will probably make some sort of announcement towards the end of the year. I am sure it will be met with howls of despair and delight in equal measure! No, I am not that bothered about a new Vulcan kit either! Allan Ps - Happy speculating!

I don't have an airbrush but, for a smooth glossy finish I use Halfords Acrylic car paints.Don't know if you have ever used them but, they have a wide range of colours including matt primers. They don't smell very nice but they give an excellent, very smooth and durable finish. Ones I have used most are, Appliance White, Ford Diamond White, Ford Polar Grey, Nissan Red, Nissan Yellow. They have good metallic shades as well. Just do not ever apply over enamel paints, at least not without some form of protective varnish. Allan

Picard - Amazon Star Trek spin off Series
Albeback52 replied to Rumblestripe's topic in Entertainment Central
Well, I have Amazon and Netflix so, I have no reason to complain! It's a good time to be a Trek fan! With Discovery season 3 due next year AND the Section 31 spin off getting the go ahead (I think that's got great potential) ,there's a lot to look forward to. Allan ps , did anybody see the fan made short film Prelude to Axanar?. What a pity that was just a "one off". The premise of the Four Years War between the Federation and the Klingon empire would have made a great series -
BBC Filming War Of The Worlds in UK
Albeback52 replied to Noel Smith's topic in Science Fiction Discussion
Well, I guess we will have to agree to disagree on that one Steve!. Yes, I hate the term " re imagined " as well. Maybe "rewritten or, "redesigned" are better? I have to agree that Maren Jensen (Lt Athena) was a bit of all right ! Still didn't make up for such a god awful series though. I didn't like everything about the 2004 series. The character of Lt Valeri (Boomer) was probably the most irritating in the series. And, I have to say, I did not like Starbuck's gender change! I didn't like the character at all. Nothing to do with the actress. Just the way the character was written. On the other hand, it was good to see the late Richard Hatch return as the scheming and sinister Tom Zarek. One of the outstanding performances was Michelle Forbes (Admiral Cain). A thoroughly nasty piece of work especially compared to the rather jovial portrayal by Lloyd Bridges (as the Pegasus; Commander Cain)in the 80s series Allan PS - I rather think that in the "real" world, the aforementioned Stormtroopers would actually be a lot more formidable and effective than the film allowed them to be PPS I thought the redesigned Cylon centurions were uber cool and so much meaner and nastier than the originals which, I though were laughable!!Could never figured why they were all termed "Centurions" though -
1/72 - Junkers EF.128C & E/N-1 by AZmodel - released
Albeback52 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
An interesting point but, why should they? There are numerous works of literary fiction depicting a scenario whereby the Axis powers were victorious. Len Deighton's SS-GB and, Philip K Dick's "Man in the High Castle" being two that spring to mind. Would your hypothetical 12 year olds also look at these and feel sorry it never happened? I don't think so because they aren't stupid and, they will know from real history that such portrayals are fictional. AZ could just as easily have produced a model of a Soviet "paper project " aeroplane based at Montpelier 1946 ,Kiev 1946 or, any other European location. I wonder if that would have been subject to some of the unfavourable comments that a fictional product of Nazi Germany seems to be? Allan -

Albeback52 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
3e3 Would they? I wonder where the bigger market is? Meantime, this aircraft existed albeit only as a design. It is as valid a subject as any non existent science fiction /fantasy subject. Ultimately, it is up to the manufacturer to decide what is or is not a valid subject. Sorry if You don't like it. That's fair enough. I respect that. I can also think of loads of subjects I'd like to see in model form but, we can't always get what we want. If this kit sells well then that is the only justification AZ needs. I think Robert's comment is valid and, I support it I guess it does not really matter what model companies produce because someone, somewhere is going to be unhappy. I sometimes think they are damned if they do, and damned if they don't! Allan(still waiting for an Avro Lincoln, Avro Manchester and, too many others to mention! ) -
Have to confess I have not read any Algernon Blackwood. Quatermass and the Pit is a great story regardless of the (to me anyway) underwhelming film treatment. It would definitely benefit from a modern, large budget serialisation . Certainly looking forward to the forthcoming three part series War of the Worlds, currently being filmed by the BBC. Allan

Aurora/Atlantis 1/72 Cheyanne re-issue

Jumblies Models have the models available for sale and pre order. I'd hazard a guess it's going to priced on a par with the B-52 and Martin Seamaster Alan -

Albeback52 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
Nicely put!.Mind you, there are some whinges about "accuracy " on AZ's Facebook page! Apparently it's a "fantasy " model and, not like the "real" thing ! My own personal view is that this model is every bit as valid a model as a TIE fighter, Star Destroyer, U S S Enterprise or, Imperial Stormtrooper. Nobody complains about them! The "why this and, not..................(insert choice) comments are as predictable as night following day. Totally accept that but, we don't always get what we want! Personal choice of course. Allan ps. I probably wouldn't refuse a Venom either but, in the absence of same I'll settle for this! -
1/72 - Junkers EF.128C & E/N-1 by AZmodel - released
Albeback52 replied to Homebee's topic in The Rumourmonger
I'll take two please! I'd rather have this sort of thing than the aforementioned Venom or Beaufort ! Allan ps, I wouldn't mind a Beaufort either but beggars cannot be choosers! -
I wasn't all that impressed with the film version of Quatermass and the Pit. It just seemed to bumble along which, is a shame because it had a fine cast. Just didn't grip I'm afraid. I discovered the BBC Series "Ghost stories for Christmas" on Amazon video ! Guess what I bought! If you can get hold of copy, I recommend : "The Dark Side". It's a collection of 31 short stories of supernatural by French author Guy de Maupassant. Not unlike Lovecraft in style. Allan
