Be nice if Airfix would do a TSR2 WITH a load of weapons to cover a variety of possible load outs. The after market sets are nice but, they all add up to a very expensive model. Would an extra sprue or 2 really add much to the cost of a kit?. I've seen one illustration of a TSR2 fitted with a beam adaptor carrying 8 x 1000lb HE bombs under each wing!. Now, THAT would look really mean! Allan

1/48th Westland Wyvern S4
Albeback52 replied to graham121's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
That is one mean looking machine!! Somehow, and I cannot really explain why, but I think the Wyvern would look really neat in S E Asia camouflage, with wing tip tanks and a s*** load of napalm,MK82s etc under the wings. Sort of a Skyraider replacement...................................???? A really big shark mouth would of course be essential!! -
Be glad to. Once I've butchered/ assembled the wings & engine pylons I'll post pics. Something else I thought about was using lead strip weights ( the sort used in aquaria) superglued inside the wings in order to impart droop. Probably over stress the wing/fuselage joint though.

But then, perhaps they feel that there's more money in doing to death subjects like Spitfires & P-51s etc? Perhaps they feel that there are enough C-130 kits on the market already, good , bad, or indifferent? Let's face it,transports are BORING!! Right? No, I don't mean that personally, rather I think it's possibly a matter of perception. Regardless of how vital they are in reality, when little Johnny ( or Joan) is in the model shop confronted with a choice of (yet another) F-16 (yawns) dropping a load of lethal whizz bangs or, a C-130 sitting on the ground off loading troops, what is more likely to leave the shelf?. Unfortunately, I don't think prolific numbers seems to matter in this case. One could use the same argument about the DC-3 - the most prolific transport of all time and yet, do we even have a modern , up to date kit of a DC-3? I do not personally have any issues with any of the available 1/72 C130 kits. Largely because I'm an "out of the box" modeller and therefore totally indifferent to accuracy or otherwise!!If someone gives me a kit, I'll build it regardless! I don't know about "right" but, I do agree with you on this - all of the available 1/72 kits are pretty old, so, a brand new, state of the art C-130 (with multi options) would be delightful!! Just for the record,I'd buy a kit of a big, fat, ugly unglamorous transport (or bomber) before I'd buy any boring fighter types!! ( no offence fighter jocks! ) In addition to a brand new C-130 ( especially a "J"), I'd love a 1/72 C-54, C-74, C-124, C-133, C-17, C-141, C-5A/B, VC-10. At least the forthcoming Revell A-400 will go some way to appeasing me!! . Oops - apologies for getting off track slightly!

Good luck. I've just started the italeri B-52G! I'm trying a different approach to the wing droop problem. Once the cement on the wing halves has hardened, I'm going to saw across the wing chord (top half only) through the recesses for the engine mounts and insert a strip of thin card to wedge it apart. I'm hoping that will impart a curved drooping wing without a kink!! If not? Well, my screw up !! Up to me to fix it!! Of course, a NEW B-52 kit that managed to incorporate the wing droop would be really nice!!

A lot of great minds thinking alike here! I use Eduard masks ( if available for the model I'm building). I 've had no problems with them at all. Latest ones used - Revell HE-177 & FW-200. Otherwise, it's bog standard Tamiya tape, a very sharp knife & cocktail stick. Worst masking experience ?Easy, Revell B-36 , Airfix BV-141, Airfix TBD Devastator & SB2-C Helldiver. I really hate masking so, I always do it before starting to paint/build so that I can get it out of the way!! I'll have a pint of Old Peculier please!!

I was intrigued when I first saw these kits advertised. I'm afraid I lost interest though when I saw the price!!
-
"Need" has nothing to do with it. I suggest "want" is more appropriate! While the point about the TSR2 never being used for weapon trials is valid up to a point, I don't really think it is of any relevance with regard to a possible kit. To my knowledge, no TSR2 was ever employed as an anti - Meteor platform and yet, Airfix have seen fit to release it in the guise of a fictional aircraft featuring in a Japanese Animee series!! Surely, using your own logic, anybody wanting this sort of "what if" flight of fantasy should also seek after market items? I have issues generally with buying after market accessories but, this is off topic. I tend to agree with your point about duplication and, in this, I guess I am as guilty as many others here. The H B Tornados build into fine models albeit, a little on the pricey side. I won't get inolved in any arguments regarding accuracy or otherwise. Suffice to say, I'm happy with them as they are. Regarding specific duplication, I really hope we do NOT see any more Spitfires/ BF-109s / FW-190s/ P-51s/P-47s/F-16s/18s/15s or 22s!! All of which, in my opinion, have been duplicated to death!! A 1/48 Gnat would be lovely! Personally, I tend now to look for what I shall term "less well known" subjects. I listed a few. I would rather have, for example, an F3H Demon or, F7U Cutlass than yet another ******* F-16 or Spitfire (yawns!) . That of course is my choice. I would not presume to debate other peoples choices and, am happy to disagree amicably. I'm certainly pleased with Airfix policy of updating current kits - I sincerely hope , for example, the Vulcan Stirling & Halifax & Javelin ( TO NAME BUT 4!) get the update treatment!

2013?? Phew! I've almost run out of ideas!! Hang on a mo............!! Well, how about ; (1/72 or 1/48) - Yak 25/28 series Dassault Super Mystere Sukhoi Su 9/11 MiG 25/31 (1/48) Supermarine Scimitar (1/48) Meteor NF variants (1/48) Just as an aside, Revell did a very good series of so called Luftwaffe 46 aircraft. If kits of aeroplanes that never flew can sell, Maybe a British equivalent? Try this lot for size ; SR 177 SR 53 Hawker P1154 & that magnificent looking P1121 Avro 750
-
Agreed, any load outs would be speculative but, I wonder how many TSR 2 kits have actually been finished in the the kit schemes only? The Xtradecal TSR 2 sheets sold out very quickly which, to me anyway, suggests that a lot of the kits fell into the hands of the what -iffers. There is vast potential for the TSR 2.
-
It's just a pity that Airfix didn't see fit to offer an "operational" TSR 2 with a wide range of optional armament fits. If the sales of TSR2 weapons accessories are as succesful as widely reported, then I suggest that Airfix may have missed an opportunity. Given my own very limited budget, I cannot really afford expensive after market additions so, any kit offering a wide range of armaments is to be preferred.

Perhaps you did not read my post properly? If you can point out exactly where I actually exhort people to not bother with research then I would be extremely grateful. I have never attempted to specifically tell anyone that that their research and hard work is pointless.Clearly, if they ARE embarking on the work, then it is not pointless to them and, I would never presume to debate that. Rather, it is my own personal view that it is not worth the effort in many cases . There is a whole world of difference between that and telling people their work is pointless. A distinction you have clearly ignored or, simply failed to note. There is a world of difference also between stating my own personal opinion (as I have done) and, stating a fact. Opinions are not facts. Another distinction you have clearly missed Presumably, you have also missed or ignored my posts where I specifically state that I admire and respect the skill and dedication of those who do strive for accuracy. By definition therefore that will also include yourself.I have often stated and, I state again that they are far better modellers than I. It is just not an approach that suits me personally. Your own comment is rather churlish I feel especially as you attached a meaning to my post that simply is not there. However, I am not responsible for how you choose to (mis)interpret my comments. Now, I propose to let the matter rest there because this is a discussion about the Airfix kit . I do not want the moderators to have to get involved here. If you have any issues regarding my OPINIONS & VIEWS, then may I respectfully request that you PM me & I will be happy to discuss with you Allan

£12.99? Hardly going to break the bank? Still, I guess you're right - some people will NEVER be happy unless they complain about something!
-
Looks tasty! Wonder how long it will be though before the self appointed internet "experts" start ripping it to bits
-
Only if accuracy bothers you! I suspect that most, if not all of the "inaccuracies" will be well nigh invisible to the uninitiated so, why bother? Builds a nice little model striaight from the box. Works for me!

Airfix Space Shuttle re-release on Airfix.com
Albeback52 replied to John's topic in Aircraft Cold War
Built one when it was first released. No major problems. In fact, the kit assembled very well. However, the support struts connecting the Shuttle to the tank assembly were, as I recall, very flimsy Allan -
Looks like the venerable Airfix Ju-52 is out again
Albeback52 replied to John's topic in Aircraft WWII
D The advert on the Airfix website describes the action to capture Maleme airfeld on Crete. I think the painting illustrates that battle. I'm delighted to see Tante Ju again! Hope they provide the floatplane option. Anybody know any more about this?. I still have the remains of an Italeri Ju 52. Probably combine parts of both to provide a bit more detail. -
Yes. those same old boring, dull, unadventurous and unimaginative subjects! I'm sure they could come up with something original for 2012!!

If photobucket is working, this may solve your mystery - the Airbus A400 Allan

Please! ANYTHING repeat ANYTHING but yet another Spitfire/Bf-109/Hurricane/FW-190/P51/-47/P-40/Zero etc & all these other W W II types that have been DONE TO DEATH already!!!! Also, please NO MORE F-16s,F-18s, F-22s F-14s!!!!!!. How about a Gnat, Gloster Javelin (all marks) Meteor/Vampire/Venom/Sea Venom ( all marks),Phantom FG-1/FGR2 (as long as it's not at Hasegawa prices!!) D H Hornet. Do we have a decent MirageIII/V in 1/48? Maybe a Mystere?I remember Airfix doing a nice Mystere many years ago in 1/72. A JP3/5/Strikemaster would be nice. How about some Soviet bloc stuff? MiG 15/17/19/23/25/27? SU-7/17/22? All pretty well known types. I'd love a decent Yak 25/28 series but I cannot see airfix tackling these beauties!!! Dream on !! Allan!

I think the name "Grizzly" was selected only for the 5 strong development/test fleet. I saw a news article recently about the 7th & final c-17 for the RAF & the A400 Atlas C1 was mentioned as being shortly to enter service. I think it's a safe bet the kit will probably contain military options as well as the prototype markings. Probably be little obvious difference between the prototype & production machines. Does look impressive doesn't it! Can't wait to get my hands on them!!

Well, for what it's worth !! Blackburn Beverley H P Hastings Avro York A W Argosy Bristol Britannia H S Andover H P Harrow Bristol Bombay Short Belfast VC-10 Avro Lincoln/Shackleton ( all marks please) A new Lockheed Neptune A new B-47/B-52D/G/H DC-7 C-54 C-74 C-124 C-133 C-141A/B C5A/B C-17 IL-76 AN-22 Myasischev M-4 Avro Tudor New Short Stirling New radial engined Halifax New Avro Vulcan B1/B1A/B2 New H P Victor B1/B2 Gloster Javelin ( all marks) IL-18/38 Viscount/Vanguard/BAC1-11/Trident/Comet All of the above to be at least 1/72 and/or, (where practical) 1/48 Phantom FG1/FGR2 -in 1/32 please. Only Revell need apply as I cannot afford the truly outrageous prices for Hasejimifujigawatrumpiyacademy kits!! (I think Italeri are about to price themselves out of my market as well!!) The aforementioned oriental manufactures being banned from the UK unless prices are immediately reduced by at least 50% ( ok - obviously just joking here!! ) A complete ban on all those boring WWII Fighters (Spitfires/BF109s/P51s/P47s/FW180s etc) that have been well & truly done to death!! (yawns) I'm sure I've missed a few? oh yes, how about Thunderbirds 1 - 5 all in 1/72! That big nuclear powered airliner (Skyflash?) would be AWFULLY nice as would that magnificent Zero-X spaceship from the first Thunderbirds film . A decent scale Angel Interceptor? Now then - oh yes, how about a few ships. Nothing smaller than 1/350/1/400 please!! Tribal class destroyer Abdiel class minelayer Leander class light cruiser County class/Town class heavy cruiser Dido class cruiser Nelson class battleship Resolution class ( is that right?) battleship W W I German Derfflinger & Mackensen class battlecruisers Leander class frigate County Class guided missile destroyer Type23/42 Destroyers Amazon class frigate HMS Eagle/ Ark Royal Phew! I think that's enough!! I might need a secod home to display them. On a more cynical note, I suspect that the biggest black mark against most of the British subjects I have listed is that they were BRITISH & used by nobody else - especially the USA. therefore, the chance of a kit is probably about zero squared!! Allan

Couldn't agree more!! The original Gnat T1 was my very first model ( back in 1967!!). I'll probably need at least 20!! (once I've got my Red Arrows & Yellowjacks collections!!)
