  1. Here is a link to the new parts on Hyperscale. They look great and can be used on the AH-1Q and AH-1S(Mod). Most of the parts can be used on the AH-1G as well. https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/hyperscale/new-product-announcement-48th-scale-cobra-fans-sho-t543072.html Floyd
  2. I do not. I can take a set from one of my ICM/Special Hobby kits which I'm not going to use though. Don't forget the replacement canopy? Floyd
  3. As someone who has built three of them so far, I love them. Do yourself a favor and buy the High Tech kit. It has most of the things that you would need. Don't forget Werner's Wings decals and armament. Floyd
  4. It is very accurate in shape; however, it is severely lacking any detail. You need a new canopy, new cockpit, and new armament at the very minimum. Most of it is hard to find now that Cobra Company is out of business. Unless you are doing it for nostalgia. I would recommend the Special Hobbies AH-1G 'HIGH TECH' kit. Spend the extra money. It has everything you'd need to build an accurate Vietnam era Cobra. The regular boxing from ICM and Special Hobbies are nice but lack details, especially in the cockpit and armament. Of course, I'd recommend the Werner's Wings M-158 and M-159/200 rocket pods, but I may be a bit biased on those. LOL Just an FYI, Metallic Details also does some really good stuff for the kit. 5. To answer your questions 1) Yes, the main rotor deflectors were in use right up to the end of the Cobra in the Army inventory. However, later variants weren't so stringent about having them. 2) Either could work. 17lbs stuck out from the end of the pod and 10lbs did not. So 17lbs looks cooler. 3) I will not be doing a sheet for it. Simply because I can't find any good markings to include. That said I would recommend that you get the AH-1G sheet, if for nothing else the stencils. The kit ones are at least 1/5-2 times as large as they need to be. I built a 2ACR aircraft but it took two UH-60 sheets to get the crossed sabers needed for the front of the aircraft. I don't know how to post photos on Britmodeler since I don't use a picture hosting site, but if you email me at [email protected] I can share photo that I have from the 2ACR that I got from some friends. The only markings I've seen on an AH-1Q. 4) If you email me I can send you the directions on how I did it. I'd like to take credit but it was Joseph Osborn who came up with it in 1/32nd scale. I just shrunk it down to 66% and made it from plastic and Albion Alloy aluminum. I'm almost done with my Q. I should finish it today. So, if you are on Facebook, watch my personal page, the Werner's Wings page or the helicopter modeling pages I frequent. So far pretty happy. Floyd
  6. That would have been the Werner's Wings conversion in 1/48 and 1/32nd scale. Both long out of production. If someone would like to take a crack at it in 3D CAD and allowing me to market it again, I'd be willing to investigate getting the decals remade. Floyd
  7. Can't wait. Finishing up the first Q model right now. Had to scratchbuild a new Helmet Site Subsystem (HSS) and used the High Tech parts from an earlier G model release. I'm using the new Werner's Wings XM-158 rocket pods and some new TOWs from someone I can't remember his name right now. I still need to add some AH-1S (Mod) to my collection, an early and a late one. This will be perfect. Floyd
  8. They did a chemical analysis of the He-219 RLM 84 color and found it to be a chemical match to standard RLM 76 so it would seem that the binder used caused the discoloration. Different manufacturers, mixed differently. Ain't late war Luftwaffe colors fun? Floyd
  9. Looks great, especially in 1/72 and in 8 days. Exceptional I do caution on Procals 1/35 set which is a direct copy of the set which I did for Cutting Edge, with some new parts added. I asked them to stop producing them. Floyd
  10. Some more info has come to light. Some units did in fact use black as a recognition marking, ala F/9 Cav and others. Thanks Mike Campbell. During Lam Son 719, many aircraft were damaged and quickly repaired. Tailbooms and other parts were painted with what was on hand, namely flat black, quickly to get them back in the fight. I was incorrect about the markings being painted out to keep them from being identified as US Army aircraft. Who else would it be? I apologize for that. Floyd
  11. As I said, no cowling early. Forward Doghouse added before 1996. And then they actually removed the doghouse later to save weight. The first one is a newer one. You can tell by the antenna mounts. They are new antennas. Floyd
  12. He also flew a G-6 Looks like Yellow 1 with a tiny 2 in it with some weird paint scheme, perhaps some RLM 79 even. This is shown in Wings of the Black Cross on the cover and inside one of the editions. There are also decals for it from Eagle Editions. There is video of this machine in the AKN files to draw your own conclusions. Don't forget Double Chevron an Erla G-10 which is his last mount. Also available in decal form from Eduard in thier Bf-109G-10 Erla boxing. He says he never flew the K-4. Any drawing is pure speculation. Floyd
  13. What he said. Early aircraft did not have the intake cowling. Then it was decided that the Mk.66 rockets were too 'hot' for the aircraft when hovering so they went with redesigned cowling, which is in the Werner's Wings set. Once tactics changed from hovering to diving flight the cowlings were removed again to allow more weight to be taken up by fuel or ammo. They may also have been removed when they got the upgraded systems that included CMWS and flare launcher under the belly. That set is available on Werner's Wings 35-28, Kiowa Warrior Modernization Set. I have no ideas when these changes took place though. Floyd.
  14. No offense taken. The R upgrade was more of an internal thing. The R3 was a software update to the engine and controls internal. There was nothing externally different. The R retained the doghouse. There isn't anything added to it to make it an R. If you can show me what you are talking about I can clarify. We can do it here, or in PM, or email at [email protected] . All I can say is, be patient on a Kiowa book. Your wish may be granted, but not by me. Floyd
  15. I wrote the Squadron/Signal OH-58D Kiowa Warrior Walk Around. You cut me to the quick. Old, Light on text. LOL I would have written the in Action book if they had asked me. What are you after? Perhaps I can help since I flew both the Kiowa and the Kiowa Warrior. Floyd
  16. SAM Publications had a great book on the Corsair written by Rafe Morrissey. It has plans Floyd
  17. Interesting that the panel line that extends down the center of the fuselage stops, or appears to, on that particular panel and picks up aft of it. There must be a panel line somewhere else. On the side? Or am I just missing it? Floyd
  18. Try MDC for the blind flying panel. They have it for the Hasegawa kits but I'm sure it can be made to fit the Eduard kit with little fuss. There is a scribing template (PE 48-005) from ATOL Hobby, I picked mine up off of eBay. I think it is essential given the way Eduard broke down the chevron wing to fuselage join. Not sure about anything for the upgraded hood, but you may want to check Falcon. They did a Bf-109 special vacuform canopy sheet that has most of the variations that you could want. Floyd
  19. Let me put a bug in your ear, Halberd Models. Just saying. Floyd
  20. Seminar makes a 1/35th UH-1B. It’s pretty nice. The biggest issue is that they packed the vinyl ammo chutes with the blades and the vinyl eats into the blades. I’ve never seen one that didn’t have this problem Floyd
  21. I can help you with the UNITED STATES ARMY markings but not much else in my AH-1F-Last of the Army Cobras decal sheet. I think Print Scale did some in 1/72nd. Floyd
  22. I fly currently Cobras and flew them in the 1980-90s as well. They are the same basic shape until you get to the canopy area, which changed to flat plate canopies. Of course, the later versions added more bumps and things to them but the tailboom was always that shape. The tail rotor changed sides early on and as power increased the gearbox got bigger which caused a bigger cover. I do know that Special Hobbies had access to the factory line drawings. I believe that AZ did as well. The thing they got wrong was the size of the tail rotor blades. They both based their shapes off of a restoration. The AH-1G had the same size tail rotor blades as a UH-1D/H Huey. Floyd
  23. Quickboost does a set, I believe. The Graf special edition FW-190A-5 by Hasegawa has them. Maybe even Eagle Editions may have a set. Floyd
