  1. Thanks Hook, I hadn't seen this item. It looks like a nice way to spruce up the kit, I'm just not a big fan of P.E. due to the folding of small parts and the flatness of most of the details. I don't know why we don't have decent resin pits for the MiG-31 yet, since the kits are there AND we have pits already for the MiG-25 from a few different sources! Just Wondering, WARDOG
  2. As they say Paul, which version are you looking for? I have the HB Rafale M kit after selling my Italeri kit and while the Italeri kit had a host of problems like being a prototype version and lacking a correct cockpit, it really did look to have the correct shape of the two. As mentioned, the HB kit is much nicer with better details but is under scale a tad. There are nice after market decals around too so unless SOMEONE comes out with a new mold kit with better detail and correct size, I guess I'll just eventually build the HB kit and move on! Cheers, WARDOG
  3. Hi Logical, I have a comparison review in my documents somewhere that details the differences between the Zvezda and ICM kits with the Zvezda apparently winning by just a nose. When I had both kits, I personally found likes and dislikes in both but also selected and kept the Zvezda kit to build. My biggest gripe about the Zvezda kit is the lack of cockpit detail, its very toy like but then again, how much would you see with the canopy closed? PLEASE NoOmega or Pavla, make us a cockpit for this kit! I want to build mine as a Kazakhstan bird, just need the cockpit, correct becals, and Akan paints! You can do a Google search on " Zvezda-vs-ICM MiG-31 kits"and find some good info there too. Cheers, WARDOG
  4. Man, this is utterly FANTASTIC work, Oliver! The level of and attention to detail definitely place you in the pantheon of Model gods! Can't wait to see your camouflage work when done. I'm strictly a 72nd scale man and have the Mach 2 kit but I really love your work here! Keep it going, WARDOG
  5. That looks pretty good to me, maybe a touch more of blue. Nice job on both kits, what colors did you use on the SuE? I've been trying to nail those colors down for the SuE and the Super Frelon for years now! By the way, good name too, you just spell it wrong! :-) Glynn "WARDOG" Jacobs
  6. I too have a couple of 1/72nd F-8E((FN) kits, one Academy and one Heller, and have been checking out which colors to use. I would be VERY careful about using the museum photo as a reference as these birds are extremely weathered and stored outside and suffer the obvious effects. I've seen colors from 35164 to 35109. Colorado decals call for Humbrol PRU Blue (discontinued?). I will see if the PRU Blue can be found somewhere and if not, I'll most likely go with 35164 from Humbrol or Model Master. Its a great plane that I've wanted to build for a while and am very pleased with the Academy kit. I'll be adding Heller weapons and the correct ejection seat but I think the rest will be OOB. Happy Modeling, WARDOG
  7. Great looking job so far, I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work! I intend to buy and build one of the kits but I'd like to build a French Atlantique 2 kit. L'arsenal makes a resin up-date set for the Atlantique 2 but it is quite expensive so I'm hoping Revell will make perhaps another sprue or two to include the necessary parts to be able to make the newer versions. Keep up the good work, WARDOG
  8. VERY nice job, very inspiring! I have the Condor kit and will build it with a Pavla cockpit and some AKAN paints, may look into getting resin exhausts too. Still trying to determine which country I will depict though, maybe Soviet or Egyptian. Cheers, WARDOG
  9. Hi Cas, Looking forward to your build. I too have the Trumpy kit and Pavla resin cockpit and intend to (eventually!) build mine as a North Korean bird in NMF. They used to try to "visit" us on the U.S.S. Midway back in the 80's but the F-4s and E-2Cs would keep them at bay! On Ken "Flankerman's" site are some nice cockpit shots. I find the Pavla set very nice and a complete change over from the kit cockpit but lacking in correct painting details and locations and his pics are very helpful for this info. You are also right about the differences between the H-5 and Il-28, its basically the rear gun turrets. The H-5 has the flat bottumed turret and the Il-28 has the rounded bottumed turret. All the best, WARDOG
  10. I've been trying to figure French colors out for ever now with not much luck. All my French planes and helicopters, especially the Marine ones, are giving me fits. Even the greys on the Mirage 2000C, and the grey and green on the F.1CT and Mirage IV are just mind boggling to me. I've tried mixing the colors but have failed miserably. Hopefully our French friends will one day produce some paints the way Akan does for Russian colors. One can only dream! WARDOG
  11. I have this kit also and have been looking at it and fondling the plastic but haven't built it yet. Mine will be built as a regular "line" bird with no special markings. Anybody know where I can get the small German crosses and correct size numbers, both with the white outlines? Its a beautiful, well-engineered kit. My only (very small) problems with the kit are the Revell only paint numbers and the lack of the correct decals to do a "line" bird. Hope someone knows where I can get more decals. WARDOG
  12. I guess if you want to build a Brit Jaguar, the Hasegawa kit with some after market for the air brakes and over wing pylons would be the way to go. For a French Jaguar, the Hasegawa kit plus the weps and pylons from the (expensive) Hobby Boss kit might be the way to go. Also, there are nice after market cockpits and decals for both. WARDOG
  13. Hi Michael, As all have stated, the Italeri kit is the best. It has the shark nose and extended LERX to make the later model "E" model. Just replace or modify the ejection seat and replace the "Winders", as my friend Armando said. I'll be building mine as a Navy agressor from the "Sundowners" squadron and won't be using the decals from the kit. WARDOG
  14. WOW, WOW, and WOW! That is one fine looking bird! I will apply your techniques to my 72nd scale Hawk. Absolutely beautiful! WARDOG
  15. I have the Bilek and KP kits and I like the looks of the Bilek MiG-19S better than the older KP kit. I really wanted the Bilek F-6 kit but I'll try to bash a PakistaniF-6 out of the two with a Pavla cockpit and some other extra bits. I'll also try to bash a Q-5 Fantan (another kit we could use!) out of the KP MiG-19 rear fuselage and Revel (Kangnam?) Yak-38 forward fuselage. While a better kit, the Bilek model has issues with fit and cockpit detail but as everyone here says, a new MiG-19/F-6 kit would definitely be an improvement. Cheers, WARDOG
  16. Yes, I understand you, its just an old man's fantasies. The items look very good and I do wish the proprieter much success, I'm just wishing! Danke, WARDOG
  17. Man, Very nice stuff! Now we just need a set of 1/72 Bo-105 PAH-1A1 decals. I know there aren't a lot of kits out there for the 105 besides the old Airfix kit and the newer one from (forgot the manufacturer!) but it would be nice. Speaking of nice, where are the resin update parts for the weapons, sight, and cockpit, etc? I also know the 105 is out of service now but come on, it is such a cool, small, brute of a tank killer that we should have had lots of stuff for them by now! O.K., Dream Mode-Off! WARDOG
  18. Hi Mikemx, As Andy said Pavla do a nice set of seats but you might also be interested in replacing the whole cockpit. The cockpit for the single-seater has the seats, side consoles, instrument panels, and a decent forward compartment for the bombardier/navigator, amongst other items (I wished they would have done the same for the rear gunner too!). The cost is pretty decent also! Take a look at http://www.swannysmodels.com/Pavla.html I'm building my kit as a North Korean H-5 as they used to try to fly (unsuccessfully) near the U.S.S.Midway occasionally. Let me know if you need some info, looking forward to seeing your build. WARDOG
  19. Roger the un-slatted wing tips on the Japanese Phantoms. I'll see if I can find the earlier issue of the F-4E to get the slatted tips from it. Just have to find it in the house since I let the kids build it before they got into the electronics world! Thanks, WARDOG
  20. Hey Mr. Trumpeter, how about a 1/72nd scale F-7 kit with details to make one from China, Tanzania, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, or Namibia? We had the nice F-8II kit but there is something about the "cranked arrow" wing that makes the F-7 so appealing to me. I know I will probably have to scratch-build one by maybe using my Bilek MiG-21 and modifying the canopy, wings, etc. and sourcing out the necessary decals but it would be nice to add to my collection! Just Dreaming, WARDOG
  21. Hey Pigsty, Are you saying that the Asia-minor scheme has been changed on the F-4E also? I know it was changed on the RF-4. I'll have to check my sources (the internet) for any newer info. ONE DAY I'm really going to build my Hasegawa F-4EJ Kai kit as an Iranian bird. I have some Seemless intakes and the necessary(?) Model Master Asia-minor paints and just need to score some H.D.L. decals and an AiRes cockpit to make a nice, expensive 72nd scale Phantom! (I'll also probably need to get some metal landing gear to hold all that weight in the long term too!) WARDOG
  22. Hi Gents, The correct kit to use is the Fujimi Sea King. It represents the U.S. version made by Agusta whereas the Revel kit represents the British version made by Westland. The big difference is in the shape of the engine housing ("dog house"). With a little photo-etch and bit of care, it will still make a viable SH-3, IMHO. Cheers, WARDOG
  23. Thanks for the info guys, much appreciated. Darby, that is real funny, and probably true too! :-) WARDOG
  24. Hi All, Just wondering if anyone here ever was able to successfully get spare or replacement parts from Hobby Boss? I've tried to get an Infra-red Tracking Ball from the 72nd scale Mirage Rafale kit on a number of occasions but never got a reply. Anyone know any secret methods here! Cheers, WARDOG
  25. Wow, I didn't know Ted Taylor had passed, God,s speed Ted! I was always impressed with his work and insights. I too have the Nimrod kit and as things are a little tight right now in the financial realm, I'm hoping that some Alley Cat items are still available when my situation improves. Here's Hoping, WARDOG
