Saw one today at the Fort Worth airshow belonging to Tacair. A silver equivalent to Xtracolor Airframe Silver or anything similar. Just basic silver.

    DARN IT!

I live right here in Mesquite and didn't even have a clue the show was at J.R.B. and missed seeing "The Blues" in their new Hornets!  My Flight School buddy is the Two-Star in charge of Naval Reserve Air, I bet we could have gotten some up-close time with the crews!  I was even (finally) off for the weekend, too!

    WOW!

    Hi There

Would anyone please no the FS number for the underside grey of the French Air Force Mirage F-1CR or the equivalent in Humbrol paint.

    Many Thanks

    Craig

    Hi Craig,

It depends on the time period of WHEN the jet was used.  It looks like Aluminum was used in earlier schemes and a medium blue-Gray was used in later schemes.

I have recently been searching for paint schemes provided by decal manufacturer's and hobby shops by using subjects like "Mirage F.1CR schemes" and then going to "Images".  I have compiled a list of varied schemes and now JUST have to decide what looks close!

Not having the correct French colors have halted my building of a host of their modern aircraft, helicopters, and armor.

    Bon Chance!,

  3. Hi All,

Can anybody tell me what the colors are for the Uzbek MiG-29 from the Linden Hills 72037 decal sheet?

I am building my ancient (but accurate!) Airfix Su-27 as a Uzbek bird and could use some help with the tan/Brown/light gray(?) scheme.

    HAPPY NEW YEAR!

  4. Yeah David,

I have wanted a stowed Pave Tack pod for quite a while for my 1/72nd Hasegawa Aussie "Pig"!  I have even asked Air Graphics if they would consider making one.

Maybe I can try to make one when I finally retire, IF my eyes and steady hands hold up!

  5. Gents,

I see there is a 72nd scale M142 HIMARS kit out and I don't know about you, but I sure think we could use a nice, plastic M270/270A1 MLRS and Israeli M109A5 kit (or at least a decent resin accessory set for the Revell kits!) in 72nd scale.

I've been wanting to do an Israeli diorama with an M163, Merkava, M109, and AH-1F Cobra for a while now and would also like a nice MLRS for an Army diorama.

    ONE day, I guess!

  6. Thanks for the quick response Gents!

Modelling, I KNOW I saw some info on the Mozambiqan Cubs "somewhere" during my Navy days.  Probably in some assorted Intel stuff from some long forgotten location.  I am also pretty sure that they would have been Russian crewed ( as in the many instances where they were "leased" to a number of African countries!).  I was just hoping there were some esoteric photos somewhere to help me along the way.

By the way, that is one FANTASTIC-looking Egytian Cub you built!  Had I not selected a Su-7 as my Egyptian representative, it probably could have been an Egyptian Cub!  NICE job!

Vultures1, a BIG Thank You on that confirmation!  The quest continues!

    Cheers,

  7. Hi All,

I fancy building my 1/72nd An-12 as something a little different and I've been searching for pics of Mozambiqan An-12s in the usual places but haven't been able to find ANY!

Does anyone know where I might find some pics for the colors and general size and placement of insignia, especially any of the later schemes?

    Cheers,

The answer I got when asking about the colours are this:

"39101-39129 were painted with the same colour as the grey JA 37.
39131 resp. 39801 and following planes were painted with water-based paints that were (are) slightly lighter in color.
Some planes in the fleet 39101-39129 were probably repainted in connection with receiving low signature marking."

    Tack sa mycket, Bear!

Any ideas on the respective colours for the JA and JAS?  Do the MRP colors provide a good match?

    Appreciate it,

"Super kit" seems a pretty loose definition here, but if you're mainly looking for high quality rotary wing subjects in 1:48 or smaller scales, here are a few not already named above (all 1:72, as God intended 😇😞

    - Airfix/MPC SH-2F Seasprite

From the early 80s but even if/when ClearProp does this version it will be hard pressed to match in quality, detail, and ease of build

    - Hasegawa AH-1S/F series

The definitive single-engine Cobras, just a shame they never expanded to the early models or twin-engine variants at the same quality level

    - CH-46/Vertol 107 family by Fujimi

    - or - and don't laugh at this - Hobbycraft

I suspect the latter may owe "inspiration" to the former, but both are excellent renditions of the Mighty Phrog 🐸

    - AH-64 family by Academy

Their A-model was among the best, but their all-new tooling of the Longbow family captures all the multitude of unique features (unlike most kits that simply pop a radome on the rotor hub)

Nope, that one has 7 shot rocket launchers.

Very, very (and I cannot stretch that word enough!) basic M16 quads are in the Revell kit

    Andre

    Hey Hook Old Buddy,

Aren't those "supposed" to be quad M60s in the kit?

  10. Hi All,

Can one of our Nordic or otherwise knowledgeable friends tell me if the JA-37 Viggen and the JAS-39 Gripen use the same camouflage colours?

Yes, I know the Gripen is newer and possibly uses different colours (I've seen FS36173 upper and FS36373 lower touted as the colours used) but I just want to be sure I use the correct paint colours on each aircraft when the time comes.

    Thanks in Advance,

  12. Hi Supertom,

I don't have the answer to your question (the answer is "Probably not!") but I sure would like a set in 1/72nd scale!

I've often thought of making a line of decals for black aviators like Gen. Petersen, Charlie Bolton, Buddy Penn, Ray Lambert, et.al. but haven't started the research phase yet.

There are some fascinating stories and accomplishments associated with these aviators that I hope to one day advance into the public realm.

I have personally been associated with Gen Petersen and Captains Lambert and Penn and I wished I could have gleaned more information from them.

    FS36231 Dark Gull Gray - Hu 140.

Nice work so far! That one looks challenging.

    Hi Andre,

For this scale, the 36231 would be very dark.  If you look at the picture, the colour is a little bit brighter than Dark Gull Gray so in this case, and most with most 1/72nd cockpits, I would go with FS36475.

  14. Hello All,

Does anybody have an idea of which colours are used on the Angolan Air Force An-72/74s?

I fancy building my Toko kit soon and would like to know which dark gray and light blue colours were used on them.  I would especially appreciate if someone knew which AKAN colours were a match.

    Kotey, you out there?

    Cheers,

  15. Hi All,

I've written a number of companies about making a 72nd scale conversion for the Revell MiG-21 F-13 kit but so far, only a few have even written back saying they "might" consider it.

I too have thought about fabricating the wings, adding a breaking parachute canister under the rudder, and sanding-off the canopy frame for the one piece look but haven't done it yet.  Would also have to change the seat and modify the instrument panel a bit but in this scale, maybe I won't worry about it!

Aztec Decals did a set of decals for the Bangladeshi version I want so, maybe soon, I'll give it a try!

    Cheers,

Not holding my breath for the ATL2 since its use compared to the original has been relatively limited, but if you didn't already know L'Arsenal has produced a resin conversion set for the upgrade:

    https://www.scalemates.com/kits/larsenal-aero-kc-72-01-set-conversion-atlantique-atl2--659519

    Yeah CT7567,

I know it's probably a HUGE fantasy but.......!

I have seen the L'Arsenal upgrade but man, that is a steep hill to climb, price-wise.  I guess if I REALLY get the Bug I'll spring for a set!

    Take Care,

  17. I also like the regular, "line" aircraft schemes and I like the looks of the Newbury too.

My greatest wish is that Revell would release an Atlantique II kit by adding the parts required (along with a nice 72nd scale Bo-105 PAH.1 with all the correct "bells and whistles"!).

I could then say "I've done it all!"

    Cheers,
