Italeri 1:48 Gripen Updated 9th December.
TomTwin replied to TomTwin's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Tis fine for the criticisms, but she is coming on very well Got the slats and flaps on and a bit more sanding done, and I have noticed the parts behind the canard wings are also too big, good job there are replacements in the CMK set! VERY USEFUL! Thanks very much! "Hi guys, loving this thread and all the detail shots of the Gripen! Rudolf/Andreas can I put in a cheeky request and ask for some detail pictures of the Draken (if you can access one...). If it is easier PM me and I'll send you an e-mail address. Sorry for the thread hijack Tom, your Gripen looks great and I look forward to more progress soon. Cheers James" No problem, I hope to get more progress done soon! Till next time, Hwyl Fawr! -
Italeri 1:48 Gripen Updated 9th December.
TomTwin replied to TomTwin's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Evening all! Update time! I have done the majority of assembly, and only have the remaining photoetch and resin to convert it to JAS-39C Standard left before painting. I have mentioned the kit is dreadful, and so is the conversion set! It's abismal for a resin set! More work than I expected! So not great news, I would recommend waiting for Revell or Tamigawa to release a Gripen in 48 scale and Eduard or Aires to release a resin set for it before doing a Gripen, these two are pants and aren't up to the standard I was hoping for. Parts that don't fit or are bad in every way are not grand, and this is a prime example of it. Nevertheless, I shall build on, it should build into a good model when it's finished, so i will ignore the bad quality parts and soldier on! It is providing a test for me, so that has to be some high for the two! If only they redesigned some of this it would be a hell of a lot better! Here are the pics.... Last two have filler by where the front canopy would be, that's because it needs it as the canopy doesn't fit on well, so the sides need raising a bit to compensate. She's coming along, not well but slowly, and I hope to start painting her this weekend! C+C welcome. -

Morning all! Just the one for now, taken on my mobile - of progress on the Gripen. My CMK resin conversion kit has good and bad points. Some of the casting is a little weak, but my seat worked out pretty well so far. The kit however, that has no good points at all. It is the worst fitting kit I have ever done, even a half baked job by Airfix in the 70's is better than this! The fit is dreadful, particularly the join of the wings to the fuselage. Having dry fitted them I can see much filling and sanding is ahead for me! Fuselage join was a wee bit pants, with one side jutting above the other a noticable amount because Italeri have forgotten to put locating pins in certain places, which just isn't good enough. Will be adding the rest of the Conversion bits next, and filling and sanding and rescribing obviously, and I should hope to get paint on it soon! Will post some better photos when I have time, but hope you all have a glimpse of what she looks like at this present stage. Till next time, Hwyl Fawr! -

I know! Why are there so little, it's a gorgeous plane! And LOUD, which I like! I'm not jealous you have access to a magnificent aircraft at all...... Those pics are great, really helpful to me! Thank you very much! ( or Diolch yn fawr in Welsh ) Well I found this one at RIAT last week, and have been looking for it for a while. Why don't you try Hannants or Modelsforsale? -
Hello all. After my 1:32 Typhoon went down a treat, I am back with another work in progress. It is Italeri's boxing of the JAS-39 Gripen. I was inspired to build this after watching it at RIAT this year. I have heard that the kit was pants, and in places it is. The cockpit is non existant and some details are missing, so I have gone for various aftermarket products. Those being the Czechmaster Kits JAS-39C conversion set ( not using the vac-form canopy included in the set and it resembled a coke bottle in the way you could bend it and buckle it. Not really feasable and quite miserable to be true. ), exterior and undercarriage sets, Eduard paint mask ( after the Typhoon mask was a huge success and the various heaps of praise for the masks this is a must! ) and the Two Bob's "Press To Test" Gripens decals. Would have started today, but I have been a little busier than I thought with various things. The obligatory box shot; The aftermarket; I am also adding 2 meteors, 2 taurus missiles and 2 sidewinders from my 1:48 Eurofighter Typhoon boxing as the kit weapons are pants, apart from the recon pod and the centreline fuel tank, which look somewhat usuable, though not great. Hope that you will enjoy this work in progress when it kicks off Till next time, Hwyl Fawr! ( Goodbye in my native tongue )

Cheers, it is a big effort. Hope to have it finished before RIAT, if not then before Middle of August as I want to enter it in a couple of competitions. -
Hello all. I am doing this for a WIP on UK Airshow Review, but having recently joined here I thought I would share it with you all as well. I am going to start the pics from when I began this kit, and to where I am now. Currently I am doing the weapons and gear, and still have a lot to do! Let me know what you think. As mentioned before, C+C welcomed. Regards,
-
Great Work so far! The Eduard Photoetch is fantastic, used it on the 1:32 Typhoon I am doing. My only issue with the cockpit is that the displays would be black as it has no power on.
-
Stunning! How did you make the Covers?
-
Great Build! By the way, where did you get your weighted wheels from? And are they the weighted wheel set for the Revell Kit as I have contacted Hannants about the fact it wasn't in stock after looking at this WIP, and they said Mastercasters is having problems with the set. Also Hannants do not have the Two Mikes Resin Bomb pylons set as well so I would like to know where you got them from as well please. Regards,
