  1. Another beauty Fuad. You should put something in to give sense of scale, it could easily pass as 1/48! Chris
  2. Ah yes, the Mondrian Mk 1 Medium Battle Tank. That looks cool! Chris
  3. Well, the onions turned out fine. I had sprayed them silver along with the other engine parts before putting them together, but sanding & polishing took most of that off. So I ended up brush painting them (citadel) silver because I didn't want to set the airbrush up just for this little job. Chris
  4. Excellent work, looks like it's going to be suitably grubby and dystopian when finished Also, I've just realised its Mothers Day in the UK.... Chris
  5. Finally an update! I did some more work on the pit and the gun bay, but I've had the in-laws here for a few weeks so everything was put on hold. The fuselage is closed up now, so the next thing to do is attack the seams and hope that the extra-thin did it's job and the gaps are filled. This week I'm hoping to get the engines together, I'm not looking forward to trying to get a smooth finish on my 'onions' though! Chris
  6. Use firefox + kitteblock addon: About this Add-on The Daily Mail and Daily Express are popular UK tabloid newspapers:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Mail http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daily_Express When using the internet in the UK it's almost impossible to avoid occasionally accessing the website of one or the other, even if one finds their political and social outlook unpleasant or offensive. KittenBlock is designed to solve this problem. It performs one simple function: if the browser is directed to either website it will be redirected instead to a selection of photos from http://www.teaandkittens.co.uk. There is no override option, and there are no options to configure. The extension can be disabled in the usual manner should the user wish. Chris
  7. Beautiful model Fuad, lovely paintwork. Welcome to the forums! Chris
  8. I was at UH, probably a couple of years before you, if you were born in '78. I got there just as they made the decision to can the BAe site, which was a kick in the goolies for the town which caused it to go downhill during the 90's. I've never been back there since graduation. Chris
  9. Jase, I read the article that you linked to in your WIP, and I think your paintwork came out better than the example Gekko in the article. The fading is a lot more carefully blended than the paint job on the Gekko. I think your end result is ruddy fantastic Chris
  10. lovely job Simon, it would look nice on a concrete apron base, I think Chris
  11. Pedro, I love your little vignettes, they are always perfect little stories! chris
  12. So to summarise, Thunder City sound like a bunch of cowboys, and the SA CAA thought they know better than the UK CAA when it came to the civilian use of 'simple technology' like the Lightning. Thank heavens the pilot was the only person on board, and he crashed far way from the spectators. It could have been so much worse. "Ejection seat failure, ejection seat failure, tell her I love her very much". Heartbreaking. Chris
  13. What a wonderful result. The photography is so crisp & clear too. I'm jealous! Chris
  14. Hi Dave, Looking at this picture of the real thing maybe drill a hole vertically, put a in bit of styrene rod or strip that has a hole drilled in it, then thread the aerial wire through that. Fiddly but if it's small and neat enough it should look better Chris
  15. Bigger picture here, straight from the Iranian MOD website Click the image above for bigger version - I put it on photobucket because the servers in Tehran must be running over a piece of wet string (original image here http://mod.ir/sites/default/files/news/f313.16.jpg) Chris
  16. That's fantastic. when you say hand painted, given the size of the beast I can only presume you used one of these Chris
  17. The first model I built when I was about 6 or 7 years old, was bought for me by my older brother (he was good like that). It was a double decker bus, and when I got to painting it I said 'where can I get red paint from?'. My brother said 'why do you need red paint, when you can paint it any colour you want?'. That was my first foray into modelling, and I've always continued along these lines - I'm building it for me, not anyone else. I choose to put pictures up because I want to share my hobby & get feedback and tips on how to do stuff. At the end of the day though, if someone thinks that the way I do something is wrong, I don't have a problem with you telling me that. However don't get upset or argumentative when I chose to continue to do thing 'the wrong way'. In the end I painted the bus in Gold humbrol enamel and thought it was fantastic. Chris
  18. Crikey Dave, you don't hang about! I'm still sawing my way through those awful sprue gates on mine! That paintwork is looking lovely Chris
  19. HI Artie, I did try vinegar once before, but it didn't seem to soften anything and just made me want to get a bag of chips for my supper Chris
  20. Not much in the way of exciting progress to show. I gave a lot of the parts a black undercoat, then did the cockpit in dark grey RLM66-ish. Popped some PE belts in, and sloshed some Nuln Oil Citadel Shade (wash) around. Picked out some switches with a bit of paint on a cocktail stick, and rubbed a silver pencil over the rudder pedals and a few edges. The instrument panel came with a decal, I don't usually use them but I gave this one a go. I got some Tamiya Mark Fit setting solution, the end result looks OK but it still needs some tidying up. The inner parts of the fuselage, nacelles etc were also given a black undercoat, then I sprayed using Citadel Runefang Steel (the new version of Mithril SIlver), and gave them an oil wash This weekend should see a bit more assembling going on! Chris
  21. Well, no advice was forthcoming so I flew by the seat of my pants. First I cut the decal up into 3 bits that had all the dials on. I put some of the softener on the part, banged the sections of decal over the top & gave them a dab of softener on top of that. Gave it a minute then pressed it down with a cotton rag. It seemed OK, a couple of the dials weren't that snug so I dropped a bit more on , gave it another minute and repeated the process. The end result looks OK, I probably need a flat coat to seal & give na even finish & then pick out some of the bezels in colour to tidy it up. Chris
  22. Very, very nice. I'm doing a metal interior to my Hobby Boss 262, I was going to try some acrylic clear yellow over the metallic to give it that anodized look - is that what you've used here or is it an oil wash? Chris
  23. That might give mine a new lease of life. I got mine cheap from HobbyEasy (I like to buy a few odds & sods thrown in cheap when I get a kit, the postage is usually the same), so when I didn't get on with it I wasn't too worried. Chris
  24. I have a cheap generic set from an electronics store over here in NZ, which I think is exactly the same setup as the proper optivisor brand http://www.jaycar.co.nz/ShowLargephoto.asp?id=11000&PRODNAME=LED%20Headband%20Magnifier&IMAGE= I also wear glasses, the visor ise worn over the top of them. To be honest, I'm quite happy with them, although I don't use the little flip down loupe or the built in light Chris
