  1. This set is probably not a bad investment if wanting to do a T.4... Bonus point is it corrects the canopy as well.
  2. Hi Everyone, I noticed PJ Productions (besides the GA.11 and FR.10) have issued a set to convert the Airfix Hunter into a Swiss Mk.58. A picture on their facebook page shows a new nose cone, pylons, antennas of all kind, new sabrinas, gun blast deflectors and the Swiss tanks which (I estimate) were in between the 2 sizes of british tanks used... The set however doesn’t include decals. Is there anything out there that covers Swiss Hunters? I know some of the Italeri reboxes of the Academy kit include Swiss schemes, but A) I really don’t fancy buying a whole kit I have no intention to build, and B ) I have some reservations with regards accuracy of those sheets. Best regards, Guillaume
  3. I spoke to my accountant... I will have to file for bankruptcy if I get all the sets I want to get 😬
  4. As per Ali’s own words: So I think the appropriate T.7/8 tailpipe ought to be included otherwise a British jet can’t be made. Aeroclub did include one back in the days... Just my 2 cents
  5. Is the correct tailpipe included in the conversion? If not, only a T.12 can be built from the Airfix F.6 box... The F.4 has the small tailpipe, but not the parabrake housing... Maybe with some surgery one could graft an unused parabrake housing on the smaller tailpipe but it looks like a delicate operation.
  6. My feeling is that model builders are split pretty much 50/50 when it comes to rivets... Some will take the Eduard 109 over the Tamiya, for others it will be the other way around. Everybody happy. That being said I agree Eduard has some of the most petite and restrained rivets there are. I like the recent Eduard kits a lot!
  7. I think that’s a very personal/subjective statement... Yes Eduard’s Mustang looks like the best ever in 1/48. I can’t wait to get my hands on one! But I will not get rid of the Airfix kit (neither of my several Tamiya and Hasegawa). I think you can build all off them and unashamedly put them next to each other. The modelers are the real winners here 😀
  8. It looks like an awesome kit. And I will definitely get a few! But then I don’t see any reason to sell my Hasegawa and Daco correction sets. I even bet it will be hard to tell the difference once both are finished next to each other... An improvement over the Hasegawa? Most likely yes.... But calling it a “massive improvement over the two decades old Hasegawa” like Brett Green does, just by a cursory look at the sprues is maybe slightly over the top. But then, he gets the kits for free... If I find the Hasegawa kit at a fair price at a model expo for example, I would still snatch them up, no doubt!
  9. Box opening by Brett Green on Hyperscale...
  10. I really don't want to sound negative, but Xtradecal should also release some decent stencil sheets to go with those Starfighter decals. I'm not saying necessarily a 'Daco style' triple sheet, more something like they did for the Tornado Gr.1. For subjects like the Hunter and Meteor, Xtradecal gives you squadron markings and they have you use the kit stencils, which is fair enough for those particular planes. But Starfighters had quite different stencilling from one operator/camouflage to another, so should be provided imho (at least the large, most visible ones) I still pray for an up to date and correct (size and color) sheet for the Italian Starfighters. Tauro is getting long in the tooth and SkyDecals are oversized. I had secretly hoped Daco would have continued after their German and Belgian sheets, but I guess all their efforts are in the 1/32 Fouga Magister for the foreseeable future... G
  11. I was lucky enough to be able to attend the Zhuhai airshow last year in November where I was able to see the J-20's in action. It sparked my interest in this airplane. I have to say it looked mighty impressive. I'm absolutely not an expert on the topic, but I think if you look where the Chinese were 10 or 15 years ago and where they stand now, it would be foolish not to take them seriously... Correct me if I'm wrong but as far as I understand, their 'weakest link' in fast jet design is mainly engine manufacturing rather than electronics, no? Anyway, I would like to see this kit upscaled to 1/48... That would be a massive beast!! 😬
  12. Also remember the 'Airfile Decals' sheet from a while back... Pricey, and some planes have been taken over on this new Xtradecal sheet, but it includes Hunters from the F.1 all the way to the FGR.9 https://www.fantasyprintshop.co.uk/shop/fantasy-printshop-airfile-fpaf-48-001-hawker-hunter-single-seater/ I only hope someone will think about some of the coolest Squadron markings ever to adorn the Hunter: 112 Sqn with the shark mouth 🙏
  13. I would love to see Revell (or Eduard?) reissue their IDS with some vanilla ‘retro’ schemes for German and Italian aircraft... I know they are convinced those gaudy German special paints sell more to the general public, but isn’t it time for something for the real enthusiasts? 😀 I live in hope...
  14. I like the recent Revell kit. It does have faults (like the wrong forward wingsweep angle) but most of those can be quite easily tackled. The key is to take your time, make sure ALL flash is removed from all parts and dry fit all parts thoroughly. That being said, I’m not getting rid of my 3 Italeri F3’s, mainly because I do have the required Paragon detail sets to go along with them... What we really need is some good quality ‘early’ decals. Something I hope Xtradecal will do sooner or later! Guillaume PS: another thing that bugs me on the Revell Tornado is the lack of wing anhedral when built as per instructions. This is easily dealt with but all too often neglected...
  15. If you glue the wings on without gap, you will lose the characteristic wing anhedral of the Lightning... Caution required there and check the pictures!!
  16. Note that on this airframe the nose ring was painted!
  17. I personally doubt they will add the large drop tank... But I hope to be wrong of course! Despite the misshapen windshield and the lack of detail in some places, I prefer this kit to the Kitty Hawk. A “last reedition” of the ESCI kit before Kinetic brings out their (hopefully definite 🙏🏻) version of the F1?? G
  18. I was also wondering about that one!! 🙏🏻
  19. I don’t think we are necessarily looking at different nose length. Eduard has the upper part molded to the fuselage and Tamiya a separate piece. The photographer should move slightly to the left to assess the situation accurately! G
  20. I think you can build a Gr.1 from most (if not all) boxes... However for a Gr.4 you’ll need to get the parts from somewhere else. Many people robbed the Airfix kit of the specific parts. It is an expensive donor however! G
  21. I’ve seen an online build recently where the guy used MR Paint reference MRP-281 ‘Grey Blue RAL 5008 Israeli AF’.... Looked very convincing!!!
  22. @Ali, I hope you consider making a set of gun blast deflectors as well 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 With regards to the 2-seaters I’m not sure what the set will include, but I suggest NOT to include the small bore exhaust (as did the Aeroclub and Heritage sets). Purely on cost saving basis... I say this because Airfix is gonna include that in their F4 soon anyway and this is the airframe the T7 was based on. Looking forward to your Hunter improvement/correction sets!!! G
