  1. Lovely model Dennis, it's come out very nicely indeed.
  2. I keep pressing on with this and forgetting to post updates and take photos! In fact I've got it almost ready to paint without posting an update since the box shot. Anyway, here it is. All pretty straightforward so far. Aside from the Quickboost seat and a bit of Eduard PE in the cockpit, the only significant modification has been the addition of Sidewinder rails on the wingtips, which aren't catered for in the kit, but are present on the only photos I can find of the aircraft I'm modelling. These were left over from the A-4N I recently completed.
  3. Good idea - I’m interested. Don’t have a lot to choose from - whilst three of my grandparents served in WWII, I don’t know anything of any particular equipment they used (although one of them was a surgeon, maybe some 1/144 surgical tools!). But I do have a couple of options: My Dad’s wife’s father (I know, not the easiest relationship to describe) revealed, late in his life, that he didn’t actually spend the war studying to be a teacher (which seemed a bit implausible anyway - doesn’t sound like a reserved occupation) but was actually in the SOE. His training included parachute jumps from Whitleys at Ringway, so there’s one option. My other option is the Cranfield University Jetstream which is used to teach aeronautical engineering students - I had 4 flights in it about 25 years ago. This one’s my best option as I have the Amodel kit, which includes decals for one of the Cranfield aircraft (not sure if it’s actually the one I flew in though).
  4. @Mjwomack not looking forward to dealing with the wings! Since the dihedral on the Herald is so distinctive getting this right will be crucial. Now be careful with those needles! @PeterB I don’t remember much ear discomfort in the Herald but then maybe that’s because it paled into insignificance compared to the unpressurised Shorts 360s that Manx Airlines was using a few years later and never failed to hurt the ears! But there must have been some on the Herald too - they used to hand out boiled sweets for a reason. Compared with today’s airliners - didn’t notice the pressure changes in the 737-800 I flew in last week - the pressurisation systems must have been pretty primitive.
  5. Thanks @Hockeyboy76 you’re on the list
  6. Looking good Steve. Nice work on the spinner.
  7. Very nice Steve. You wouldn’t think it’s such an old kit!
  8. I’ll be joining in but not just yet - too many GBs going at the same time! I’m away at the moment, once I’m back and have made enough progress on the F-104 I’ll start on a Phantom. I have 3 options - all 1/48 Hasegawa - Iranian RF-4E, Texas ANG F-4E and F-4G in Euro 1 camo. Might get 2 done, I doubt I’ll have time for all 3.
  9. I’d love to see someone build this! https://youtu.be/j7Ss3BMrscE
  10. Time and the need to finish things off in other GBs haven’t been on my side! I’ve started but not got far. Spent most of that time looking at it and thinking about how I’m going to build it! Have started with sticking the doors in and filling some gaps. No photos yet. I’m away for the next week but will get onto the Herald when I get back.
  11. Should have read the small print re the RF-4E! Might do that in the Phantom STGB instead. But the GBs are piling up - 4 builds on the bench as it is. So, MiG-23 or OA-4M. Both are very tempting. Don’t think I’ll have tine for both, leaning towards the OA-4M, but then it’s been a while since I scratched the Russian itch. Decisions, decisions...
  12. I have 3 options in mind: Iranian RF-4E (current front-runner but then I thought of the other two) Soviet MiG-23 in Afghanistan USMC OA-4M based in Japan, which would be 1/48 and converted from a Hasegawa TA-4J using spare A-4M parts from the A-4N I built recently (haven’t really thought about how feasible this is yet though)
  13. Thanks @Rob G and @nimrod54 And many thanks to the hosts for an excellent GB. Just sorry I didn't get to those Jetstreams - if I hadn't had builds in so many GBs I'd have kept going in this one. cheers Julian
  14. Thanks everyone - looks like I'd better start a list.
  15. Here's my 1/48 RF-101B Voodoo. Build thread is here. It's the Kitty Hawk kit with an Eduard zoom set and steel seat belts. I used Mr Paint and this was my first go at airbrushing freehand - not too bad I think. Many thanks to the hosts for an excellent and enjoyable GB thanks for looking Julian
  16. Calling this done. One or two things I could have done - like the yellow canopy seals, which there are decals for in the kit but I wasn't convinced by the colour. Pitot on the nose predictably snapped in half already, and I could have scratch built the missing RWR fairings on the recce fairing on the nose, but I'm going to stop here. Pretty happy with this one - it's a pretty good kit although there are a few things Kitty Hawk could have done better, and I'd build another if there wasn't so much more I want to build already. One photo here, a couple more in the gallery thanks for looking Julian
  17. Got the undercarriage and windscreen on today. It's getting there - hopefully I'll finish tomorrow - if I don't I might not get it done by the end of the GB as I'm not going to have a lot of modelling time for the next 2 weeks.
  18. I really enjoyed the prototypes etc GB so count me in
  19. I've left this late and if I don't start I'm not going to finish on time - I'll be away for a couple of weekends in July so I only have 6 weekends to get this done. It's the Hasegawa 1/48 F-104J. I have a few aftermarket goodies for it but in the interests of time I might not use them all. I'll be using the Two Bobs Komatsu Starfighters sheet, going to go for the natural metal/red/white option - there's a photo of it here: http://www.916-starfighter.de/Large/Stars/wJ673.htm Here's the open box and aftermarket stuff: I've made a start - got a few subassemblies assembled and started painting. Don't have a photo to share yet - not really worth sharing at this stage - but hopefully will make quick progress. If I can get the fuselage closed up next weekend I reckon I can get it done by the end of the GB.
  20. Looks fantastic. Really like that colour scheme. Just started a Komatsu F-104J myself - mine's going to be natural metal with white wings and a big red section in the centre of the fuselage.
  21. Thanks everyone, very helpful. The one I want to do has the 'impact bumper' but it looks like it's going to be doable. cheers Julian
