  1. Hi Matteo I use the AS-186 compressor and am very happy with it. A good cheap airbrush is the Bartsharp 186.
  2. Just go to Microsoft website relating to reinstalling windows. With windows 10 it is a very easy process. Make sure you backup important data first. There are technical steps which you may find tricky to understand( based on your own description of your abilities ) so next step is ask a friend or family member to guide you along. I am assuming you have a legal copy of windows 10 already installed.
  3. Hi Neil Revell Aqua Color are very good for hand painting. Best thinned with Revell's specific thinner for Aqua, or with a home-brew thinner (google it), which is basically water, IPA and a drop of flow-improver. You will have to do some color mixing though in a lot of cases, but that's no biggie.
  4. hi scissorhands.. have a look at scalemodelaircraft, spencer pollard, The Inner Nerd
  5. I have to say, this post and the replies, shows just how helpful a forum can be. All the helpful replies, like Troy Smith's for example, is brilliant stuff and must be encouraging to many forum users.
  6. PlaStix, wow! I like to brush paint (mostly airbrush though), but heck, I can't match the quality you achieve. Very impressive work. I don't think any of us would have known it was brush work if you hadn't told us.

Thanks Greenshirt. I did read your blog, very interesting. I see you favoured Humbrol 116 then moved to XF-81. Rabbit Leader mentioned Humbrol 116 and I've discovered I have that also, so I'll do a test. The Revell Aqua 68 (I think it was) was pretty close to the XF-81, close enough to add some modulation (is that the word). Although I had no problems spraying any of the paints (just subtle control differences) the Tamiya is certainly the easiest to use. Cheers, Mark.

    RAF Dark Green WWII

Hi Dave I've done a bit of googling on 'net, which does come up with stuff I should have looked into before posting I guess. I have no preference really for paint manufacturer, I have all sorts, and like them all to be honest.. I'm talking acrylics here. Anyway, I'l see if I have H116, thanks. Mark

    thanks guys for your help.
  11. I have a question if I may. Is the new Humbrol 30 (Acrylic) a good representation of RAF Dark Green? I have a Mk1 Spitfire that I completed a few years ago and I'm sure the Dark Green on that (I believe I used Humbrol) looks more accurate. I'm not fussed about absolute accuracy as I know weathering, sunlight etc creates various hues of colour. I have just sprayed Tamiya XF-81, Revell Aqua 68, Xtracrylix RAF Dark Green, as well as Humbrol 30, on a test-hack model, in that order actually. The Tamiya and Revell colours are very similar (good for variation later) and looked 'right', the Xtracrylics was slightly different but passable I'd say. At this stage I was considering using (still am) all three for tonal variation. However, when I sprayed the Humbrol 30, it was a *lot* different to the other colours. It didn't look right for a start, but in comparison, made the first three mention looked a bit like Olive Drab! I'm confused now.
  12. Interesting you mention font size. I like the magazine but the font size stops me buying it I have to admit. I imagine most readers of the magazine, note I say most ok, are of advancing years so probably don't like small fonts? although like you say, nobody has commented on that so I guess I'm wrong. For the digital version of course, this isn't an issue.
  13. Bruce, I have just completed this kit and enjoyed it, BUT, I messed up the chequered decal on the nose and had to get a new one . If you do use the kit decal, then you *might* get away with making small scissor cuts between the chequers to help make the decal conform around the front of the cowling.
  14. I can't comment about artists' acrylics because I have no experience of them, but regarding sticking to one paint manufacturer say, I would think most modellers with a bit of experience could use just one manufacturer's paints that suits them and their style etc., and create all the shades necessary by mixing colours. For example, I really like Revell Aqua Color, and I think that I could probably do ALL my models using these paints, whether hand-painting or airbrushing. Thing is though, once one really gets into model making, one wants to try different products, it's just a fact of (modelling)life really. I understand about budget, of course, but I doubt any model maker *just* sticks to their favoured brand, they just can't help themselves trying different stuff, and in fact, that's all part of the magic of this hobby :-) Not sure if I've helped or not, I doubt it, but there you go. cheers Mark
