  1. I got put on to Tamiya flat base/Kleer as a matt coat a while back, initially my mix was too strong and after a few minutes started drying white, gave me an idea.. The 110 was painted with neat flat base, I did not know what I was going to get til it dried! The coat was easy to manipulate though, brush on a bit of Kleer here, swab there, chip with toothpick etc. The downfall to this technique is that it truly is a temporary distemper, it just wipes off and one daren't touch it! So it gets carted about by its nose and I cant play with it! I have no idea whether a matt spray coat would seal it all in or change its characteristics.
  2. Yass, my liquid of choice is Mr Mark setter which normally does the job, I suspect it was my technique that let me down or I had my tongue out the wrong side of my mouth, I screamed like a girl when the wasp head crumpled up.. The Airfix decals are magnificent on the flats!
  3. All in all a satisfying kit, a few bits need to be procured/ scratchbuilt for the underside, mass balances, pitot, towel rail.. I was attempting the 'wespen' scheme but the wasp decals wouldn't do the compound curves on the nose, can't say how the sharkmouth would behave..
  4. Agreed. Thank you all for your positive comments, appreciated. The inspiration for the weathering came from beautiful colour shots of Mk II P7895 RN-N in flight; http://www.ww2aircraft.net/forum/album/col...spitfire-m.html http://waralbum.ru/24423/
  5. My rendition of the lovely Airfix Mk 1a Spitfire.. Dont get hung up on the panel lines, this is an excellent kit. Small issues were the canopy fit, wing dihedral and aerial thickness, all easily rectified, and the DW-K letters which I cut and rearranged to match photo's of the aircraft. They also got a grey wash to darken up the tone. Mine has no serials as per the photo's I've seen, thats not to say the aircraft never had them. PE harness the only extras. Handbrushed with Gunze 'Mr Color' paints, topcoated with Klear/ Tamiya flat base. It looks accurate, has the right sit and out of all the 1/72 Spitfires I have built over the years captures the essence of this iconic aeroplane. Buy one and enjoy. Cheers, Airfix.
