  1. Finished. I happy with it although I think the grey is a little too dark. Will take some better pictures in the next couple of days for the gallery.
  2. Thanks for the encouragement - its getting there. I started on the decals this this evening.
  3. Haven't forgotten about this, just been struggling to find time at the moment. Have managed to get some paint on it in the last couple of days.
  4. Count me in. Will either be a Bell YFM-1 Airacuda or a Curtiss Sparrowhawk, or both depending how things go. john
  5. Thanks to the snow over the weekend I managed to get some modelling time in. I am replacing the kit seat with some Aires seats. Nose weight - nose filled with PVA and lead shot dropped in. Coming together nicely
  6. Finally got around to starting. Like most models the cockpit seemed like a good place to begin.
  7. Costa Rican Mustang - Jan 1955 1/72 Hobbyboss P-51D
  8. On the finishing straight. My idea was for a nice quick build, the part count must be less than than 20 but seems to have taken forever.
  9. This is my entry, going to build OOB with the exception of some replacement seats. Going to be finished as VF-1 Wolfpack, USS Enterprise, which I believe was the first operational cruise for the Tomcat. From googling around the subject, it is my understanding that this cruise saw the first combat sorties flown by F-14s in providing fighter cover to Operation Frequent Wind, the helicopter evacuation from Saigon in April 1975. The box art. The what is in the box photos. Although I have to admit I didn't choose the scheme because of the history, I just liked the red strip down the side. John
  10. If its not too late, I'd like in on this please? Planning to build an Italeri F-14A. Will be OOB with the exception of some replacement seats. Haven't decided on the markings but currently favouring VF-1 Wolfpack. john
  11. I would be up for this. Probably go with a Tamiya 1/72 Mosquito with the Paragon Designs Highball Conversion. John
  12. Thanks for all your advice. After a lot of sanding, I tried again with the alclad. Better results this time. Modelling room needs to be converted back to the guest bedroom for the holidays, so won't be much progress over the next week. Happy Christmas.

    A bit of fun.

Inspired by a number of What If on the Airfix Angel Interceptor. I went out and purchased one. My thinking was along the lines of - the angels operate from Cloud Base. Could Base is an aircraft carrier. What about an Angel in FAA colours of EDSG over White. I give you the Sea Angel This left me with a problem. What to do with the original decals. My solution was the Spectrum Typhoon (Hobby Boss kit). It was an enjoyable weekend project, two kits quickly built, paint slapped on, job done.
  14. Finally made a start. Kit came together quickly as you would expect with a kit less than 20 parts. This just leaves you more time to mess up! I jazzed the cockpit up with a paper instrument panel and some plastic off cuts. A big improvement on the kits empty cockpit. The reason behind building this model is that I wanted to practice using an Alclad finish. First lesson learnt was make sure you put the needle back into the airbrush correctly after you have cleaned it. I didn't as a result as soon as I triggered the air, it emptied the entire paint cup over the model in a couple of seconds. Not sure what went wrong it trying to clean it up, but the plastic reacted with something, and the surface started to melt in a couple of places. I think it is salvageable, currently spending a couple of hours sanding down the surfaces before I try again. Glad it happened on this kit and not something more expensive.
  15. Thanks for posting the link. Some good photos. It complicated the paint job a bit, trying to get the old markings just visible.
  16. Thought I would start with something simple. The Hobby Boss easy kit. Just wanted something simple to practice an alclad finish on. The cockpit is just a hole with a seat in, looking to jazz it up a bit. For the decals I am using the Insignia Magazine Decals.
  17. Nice finish. This thread and other on the have inspired me to purchase an Angel Interceptor. As it operates off an aircraft carrier (cloudbase) I am going to complete mine in FAA colours of Extra Dark Sea Grey over White.
  18. 1:48 Hawker Fury, Hart, Hind, Osprey, Nimrod 1:48 Fairey IIIF 1:48 Blackburn Blackburn, Ripon, Baffin
  19. USS Hornet. 1/700 Tamiya. Build thread: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...t=0#entry811079
  20. Haven't posted for a while but progress has continued. I am leaving a couple of the shutters open and having some wildcats in the hanger. Although not convinced you will see much when complete. The model came together quite quickly and I had a finished model on my hands, so apologies for the lack of work in process photos. Even in 1/700 the B25 is a tail sitter! And finally photographed with the 1/72 Mitchell I completed for the Bomber Group Build.
  21. Fujimi 1/72 Phantom F-4K. 892 Squadron, HMS Ark Royal 1978. Build thread can by found here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.p...t=0#entry778121
  22. I am calling this one finished. The decals were from the Model Alliance sheet "Senior Service Phantoms" and represents an aircraft of 892 squadron, on HMS Ark Royal in 1978.
  23. I have finally found some time to progress this. The decals are from the Model Alliance, and they behaved fine. The kit decals were another story, they silvered badly. As a result I gave so a lot of the stencilling has been omitted.
