Masked and primed.
Got the day off tomorrow hope to get some colour on it tomorrow.

One thing I am struggling is with is the colour of the bomb. Pretty sure I have seen one is a museum somewhere but can't remember. Any thoughts on a colour?

After a months inactivity, finally got a chance to make a bit of progress.
Airframe masked and primed. Glad I decided to buy precut mask for the canopy, otherwise I think I would still be masking it.

With the snow last weekend putting paid to my travel plans, I had time to make a start on my second mosquito.

The Paragon Design conversion gives the choice of two machines, a UK based machine or an Australia based machine. I have decided to model the Australian version, this requires replacement lower nacelle intakes and the four bladed propeller.

Assemble fuselage with replacement bomb bay.

Its been a productive weekend.
Cockpit finished. Went with the supplied seatbelt decals, as I don't think you will be able to see much detail through the cockpit canopy.

Its a longtime since I built a Tamiya kit, it just seemed to fly together.

The resin replacement nose need a bit of work, had to hollow out the bottom section to get it to fit around the cockpit flooring.

I can't remember the last time a made a kit where the first stage in the instructions was the cockpit.
Have assemble the engine nacelles and removed the inboard flaps and replaced them with the resin version.

Next step is to start of the cockpit. Just need to buck up enough courage to take the saw to the nose.
-
My second build will a another Tamiya Mosquito, this time a B Mk.IV with Paragon Designs 'Highball' conversion.
Again the decals will come from the 'Kit at War' sheet, this time finishing as an aircraft from 618 squadron.

-
My first entry will be Tamiya Mosquito FB Mk.VI with Paragon Designs ' Mollins' Conversion.
It will be finished as a 248 Squadron aircraft with decals from the 'Kits at War' sheet DDK7219.

Built OOB. Alclad Finish.

A bit more progress. Think it will be finished in time.

-
Times running out but I am still hopeful of finishing on time.It sat on the side for a while as I was I needed a rest from filling and sanding.
This weekend I was finally ready to give the NMF ago. I used Alclad Gloss Black Base finished with Polished Aluminium.

As this was only my second attempt using Alclad I am happy with the finish, the first was an unmitigated disaster.

Spence, just read you earlier post, could you reserve mine for the Sunday please.

Think I am till going to be filling and sanding this, this time next year.
Done a bit of work on the cockpit. Think the seat belts provided are a bit over scale.

Thanks to a wet weekend I was able to make some progress.

Doesn't show up in the photo, but I had to use a lot of filler. Tail planes have been drilled and pinned to strengthen the joint.

Wings added. Something about this reminds me of Buck Rodgers, from the old B&W TV series.
The undercarriage looks like being a week link, going to look at how I can strengthen them next. Just want a break from filling and sanding.
-
As a break from filling and sanding I fitted a small wing spar to strengthen the wing joint.

-
Not sure about a foil finish, planning to use Alclad.
I have been doing some dry fitting, it doesn't. The engine nacelles to the wings will need a lot of work.
So with a break from convention I decided to start with the nacelles, it being easier to fill & sand before the wings are attached to the fuselage.

Novo Supermarine Attacker. Just need to find some decals as the one in the box have seen better days.

Was at Old Warden for the Shuttleworth Pageant Air Display. A really enjoyable day out, with a nice relaxed atmosphere.
The show saw the debut at an airshow of the replica RE8 and Albatros D.V. from the Vintage Aviator Team. I believe both are ultimately destined for the RAF Museum. Seems a shame as I think they belong in the air.
RE8

Albatros D.V

And finally a couple of Hawkers finest, who put on great display. Inspiration for the Interwar GB.

I have been looking forward to this GB.
My entry is the Bell YFM-1 Airacuda, a 'fighter cruiser' that first flew in September 1937. Not a success with only 13 production aircraft being built.
Not sure I would have fancied being the gunner sitting in front of the engine. The gunners cockpit reportedly filled with smoke when the 37mm cannon was fired.
A search of youtube produced a short film of the Airacuda in action.

My first was Gloster Meteor, built with my Dad's help best part of 40 years ago.
I remember we painted it and put it on the mantelpiece to dry. Unfortunately the fire was lit, came down in the morning to discover the wing that overhung the mantelpiece had partially melted.
Happy memories.

Went to Farnborough last Saturday. Weather wise not the greatest being grey and overcast and damp at times.
It was my niece and nephews first airshow. They had a great time in the funfair, the Airfix make & take (Meteors) and we even saw a few airplanes.
Thought I would share a few of the photos I took.
