  1. Haven't forgotten this. The hornet is finally in the paint shop, primed with Halfords Plastic Primer.
  2. Probably being a bit ambitious with builds already underway for the Hornet STGB and the FAA GB and with the Obsolete GB still to come, but I will give it ago. My build will be the Special Hobby 1/48 T-2 Buckeye. The build will be straight OOB. The contents. This is a mixed media kit with a small etch, resin for most of the cockpit and a vacuform canopy (Thankfully 2 supplied)
  3. Would love a mask for this, as well as for the fulmar and albacore that I also have in the stash. An hour or twos work on Thursday saw the canopy masked. Also took the time to drill and pin the undercarriage legs, don't think they would have lasted long with it.
  4. With my Hornet build stalled whilst I wait for some paint to be delivered, I decided to make a start on the Barracuda. The results of a evenings work. Next up is masking the canopy, probably a weeks work in itself, and taking a saw to the wings.
  5. My entry for this groupbuild will be a bit of aviation origami, a Fairey Barracuda with wings folded. The kit is a Special Hobby’s 1/72 Barracuda with a resin / etch wingfold by Airwaves.
  6. Made the decision to drop the flaps, makes it look more interesting to my mind.. As supplied they can only be built in the up position. The fittings are quite fragile so following a bit of gentle bending and a quick swipe with a razor saw. Not sure how long they will stay in position, got a bad feeling that they will drop further under their own weight.
  7. Have been busy with work so not had much time at the model bench. Have made a bit of progress, the main parts of the fuselage are together. Thanks for the tip about the plasticard tabs. Had a little trouble with the nose. Without a bit of surgery is sat a couple of mm low. Before: Had to double the width of the slot in the back off the nose to allow me to align the nose correctly. After:
  8. As is traditional, I will start with the cockpit. The kit seat was replaced with a Quickboost resin seat. Cockpit tub.
  9. About to start one as part of the Hornet Group Build I have just posted pictures of the sprues. Can be found here jb
  10. Plan is to build this OOB. From what I have read on the web suggest the the top of the tail fines are two rounded and will need flattening. I believe the instruction / decals incorrectly assign the plane to the USS Carl Vinson when it should have been the USS Kitty Hawk. So what's in the box?
  11. My entry With be built OOB with the exception of a replacement seat.
  12. TR.33 Sea Mosquito No. 771 Squadron (Fleet Air Arm). 1948 Tamyia FB.VI with Paragon Designs Conversion. Decals from the spares box. Build thread here
  13. Count me in. Either a HobbyBoss 1/48 F/A-18C or Revell's 1/48 F/A-18F.
  14. Completed surgery on the undercarriage, and she is now standing on her own two feet. Need to be careful as the undercarriage is fragile. Already collapsed on me once. Folded wings are now attached an I am calling this finished. Will take some better photos for the gallery next weekend.
  15. Airbrushed with Model Air Aluminium. Decals are a hotch potch from the spare box.
  16. 1/2 hr aerobatics session in a Pitts Special for my 40th Birthday. Loops and tail-slides. Loved it.
  17. Primed using Halfords Plastic Primer. Have been putting off the next step, surgery on the undercarriage to replace the oleos. Just hoping when done they are strong enough to support the aircraft.
  18. I've checked my references, for the aircraft I am building you may be right. Photo from Ian Thirsk's de Havilland Mosquito An Illustrated History Vol.2. Checking other photos seems too show some aircraft with intakes more akin to Paragons intakes. Not an expert but was there more than one type of tropical intake? A case of checking your references before getting the superglue out.
  19. As the weather did for my weekend plans, I got to spend some quality time at the work bench. Cockpit completed. Before taking a razor saw to the wings and tail. Close of play saw the fuselag closed up and wings attached.
  20. B.IV (Special) 'Highball' No. 618 Squadron. RAF, Australia 1945 Tamyia B.IV with Paragon Designs Conversion and Kits at War Decals. Build thread here
  21. FB.XVIII Mollins Conversion No. 248 Squadron. RAF North Coates 1945 Tamyia FB.VI with Paragon Designs Conversion and Kits at War Decals. Build thread here.
  22. With one finished and one approaching the finishing line, my third and final build will be another 1/72 Tamiya Mosquito FB Mk.VI, this time with a Paragon Designs conversion to produce a TR33 Sea Mosquito with wings folded. No aftermarket decals for this one, will need to see what I can find from the spares box. As a Pompey boy, thinking of a aluminium coloured machine Lee-on-Solent based machine.
  23. Paint and decals applied. Disaster all most strikes as the carpet monster eats three of the resin blades. How I couldn't find a propeller blade on the floor I don't know. Was able to replace them with cut down versions of the kits propeller. Looks ok from a distant, not sure they will stand close scrutiny.
  24. Calling this one finished. Will take some better photos for the gallery later this week It doesn't warrant close inspection, as the decals misbehaved. Were fine until I gave it a coat of matt varnish from a humbrol spray can, a couple then started to wrinkle around the edges,
  25. Haven't posted for a while but progress has continued. Still relatively new to using an airbrush, but reasonable pleased with the way it came out. All paints used are Vallejo Model Air. Decal and given a finish of Humbrol Matt Varnish from the can. The "Keep Off" wing marking are slightly out of register. Didn't notice until I had put them on. Need to repaint the spinners as I am not happy with the white stripe
