  1. I say old chap spiffing work what!
  2. Well the painting has slowed down as I seem to end up adding paint almost molecule by molecule now! in addition she is a VERY difficult lady to photograph! I took the plunge on Sunday and did the chainmail. This was mostly done with a sort-of drybrush technique by using the side of the brush rather than the tip. This meant the paint stayed OUT of the gaps between the chain links. Had to do a little touching up afterwards. Added more shading to the pauldrons, skull on her right boob and added a "sheepskin" lining to the bracer on the left arm. Painted some fingernails but some of these need a bit more touching up. Added some eyes but she's staring a bit and I tried my best not to let her go boss-eyed but not sure if I succeeded. Quite happy with right eye but not so with left. Darkened the lips and added a little bit of highlight to the cheekbones but doesn't look like its enough. Here is a photo without flash and here is one with flash but level adjusted in Photoshop I think I'm beginning to struggle now - I really don't know what to do with her face to make it look more lifelike. Similarly with the rest of her - she still looks painted and not lifelike. I think I need to add more highlights to her hair, right arm bracer and boots, but the skin is just too "plastic" looking. if you can imagine something between the two photos, that what she looks like in normal lighting conditions. I'm goign to have to try to moderate my camera flash to get better photos. This is getting frustrating...
  3. Agree, go with the Eagle I remember cutting out all the plastic from the Airfix one back in the 70s - was very pleased with the result it must be said - even built an interior for the module but you couldn't see i through the windows
  4. Thats a gorgeous interior... the more I see of this kit the more I need to get one... omg the stash is big enough already (whimper!)
  5. "A few"??? Bloody hell, I think you need a hanger to yourself
  6. OOO could you spare a loan of the instructions to one of the Revell 1:32nds? Mine has most of the page missing and I would love to start on this soon?
  7. So today is the start day - yipeee! Was all ready to make a start today so pulled everything out ready and took the box & sprue shots: Box plus the decals and paint instructions from Robin at Cammett Thats a LOT of plastic! Next, kit decals and instructions Whats this? half the bloody instruction book is missing... AGGGGHHHHHH! I got this kit off eBay a couple of months ago and didn't notice that most of the instructions are missing, so if anyone has built this before do you still have the instructions? I'm willing to pay for copying and postage, just need them, this is too complex a kit to try to guess how to build it!
  8. I saw yours last week - I couldn't believe that ehre were two of them in the same month lol - shame you lost out to Pete's, I did vote for yours I've found an online source for this kit for only 10 Eur plus postage: http://homemedia4u.com/catalog/product_inf...roducts_id=3786 along with other interesting figures such as the Bloody Marie figure which I've ordered for later Not quite so much chainmail on that one and its not TOO revealing unlike most of them which are frankly just silly! Mind you the Veronica figure looks good - it looks like it should be based on a Boris Vallejo painting but I can't find it, however looking at his gallery ( http://vallejo.ural.net/ ) there are some masterful examples of painting impressive physiques in chainmail bikinis! Here is an interesting example (not entirely safe for work so I'll post a link) http://vallejo.ural.net/1989/show.php?006
  9. A week goes by and progress is slow but steady... As you can see she's still a work in progress and having seen this photo I see I've overdone the shading on her torso so will have to smooth that out more. I'm pleased with her boots and thong - they've come up quite well, but still need to add some highlights - the shading works nicely but it still needs the highlights added.
  10. That is a top job, without being misinterpreted as a "personal" question... how long it it?
  11. Problem is its now confused the life out of me! I have AFV Club kits of both Scorpion and Scimitar. I plan on doing the Scorpion as one that would have been in the Falklands for the GB later this year so thats sorted. Its the Scimitar that I can't make up my mind on... I had planned on doing one to match up with my Challenger 1 dio from last year (link below) which was Bosnia 1996 era. However I also would love to do an Iraq one with the LEP and bar armour and now having see the plain military site there are so many Scimitars there I may need to have to build several! Then of course there would have to be some Accurate Armour Samsons and Spartans as well... oh dear and thats BEFORE we even start looking at trying to do a Scimitar 2 conversion... oh what to do!
  12. Great tip, just spent the last 2 hours looking through a lot of great CRV(T) photos Thanks!
  13. Just found these on YouTube and
  14. I guess its role has changes in Afghanistan where they haven't deployed the Challenger 2 so the Scimitar 2's role is more of a battle tank role rather than recce tank. Shock and awe and all that.. .so protection becomes more important than speed and stealth.
  15. Yes that site does have some detail about it - another article here: http://www.armyrecognition.com/united_king...s_pictures.html From what I'd read on other pages however, the basis of the hull were Spartans that had been put into storage previously, rather than develop a totally new hull. One of the problems with the usual Scimitar was the extras such as bar armour etc were putting the weight over what the chassis could handle - upwards of 10tons, whereas the base Scimitar usually came in at about 7.6tons. I think I'll stick with an up-armoured Op Telic/Herrick normal Scimitar for now - got a set of the Accurate Armour bar-armour for a Chally 2 cheap off eBay recently, but its got some of the chobham plates missing for the turret but the bar armour looks all there, just a matter of adapting it to fit a Scimitar I reckon!
  16. Just been reading about the upgraded Scimitar Mk 2 and as far as I can see it looks like a Scimitar turret on a Spartan body, plus bar armour and an ECM "spoiler". (sourced from here: http://rokuth.wordpress.com/2011/09/21/the...-scimitar-mk2/) I reckon therefore an Accurate Armour Spartan plus an AFV Club turret plus an Accurate Armour Challenger-2 Up-armour set (Op'Telic) set for the bar armour would get me a long way toward building one. Any opinions?
  17. I'll pm you the email address this evening when I get home bucky_mad - the website appears to have vanished and I used the contact form on the site to get through to Robin but he then emailed me back on a different address. I think he's shutting the business down but was still happy to sell the set to me direct.
  18. Thanks to everyone who commented @Graham77 Yes I've started my research for the Aliens dropship (trans: sat and watched Aliens DVD this afternoon on PC and caught a few screen caps of important details) and just bought the 1:72 resin APC from Comet Miniatures to create the "dust off" scenario I am thinking would look good...
  19. The back end is dark blue. The Cammett stuff is a mix of decals and masks, plus instructions. The deluxe set which costs and extra £15 includes enamel paints pre-mixed to give the right colours
  20. I'm closing down this thread and have moved the continued build across to the Big Scale Group Build Thread. See you over there! Well that didn't work out did it
