  1. Nah don't turn it off bread and butter for me for the last sixty years Enjoyed that lots Like your model too
  2. When Westland's came up with this variation (was it called Lynx 3?) I thought it would be an awesome machine, round about then I "withdrew" from modelling and an overall "interest" in aviation so I lost track but I did see these coming into service I love them and how they have evolved Your model is great, well done. I cant wait to see the finished machine As for the screen masking Probably eggs and granny but when I was working on the screen on my Wessex I as always, covered the screen/canopy with Klear first and when masked I painted the whole issue with Klear before painting the "colour" coat This has prevented paint creep getting in a bu--ering up the screen
  3. wow truly nice work I like your description of how you feathered the edges Its what I try to do but cannot ever describe OR ACHIEVE! one day I should get you to take me into a quiet room so you can talk me through the oil paint weathering business Spits are perfect aeronautical devices yours lives up to it, by the look of this one can you tell I like it
  4. do I have to tell you how good this is? Not a chance I think the world's finest helicopter modellers congregate here and they all look up to your work marvellous stuff, wow Am I jealous? Oh yes, not 'arf fabulous work
  5. This is without doubt one of the finest pieces of helicopter modelling I have ever seen Skii Not only the attention to detail but the fact that it looks right all over I feel honoured to see it evolve cheers
  6. that's brilliant workmanship Love the Swordfish one day I might just have to…
  7. lovely detail Nobby it's very well done
  8. Nice work Nobby, wish I'd put in more definition round the exhausts like you have I see you have cut out the wheel well areas properly too (I'm happy to say I did too ) and the huge landing lights, they were a massively obvious thing with the Typhoon Going to be another very entertaining show mate thanks [harry, I think you might be remembering Airfix Magazines of the sixties and early seventies, Alan Hall was a huge fan of balsa and doped talcum powder. Oddly enough they looked quite good when finished]
  9. Great beginnings Nobby. No doubt that this will be as fine a model as the Stringbag, the great thing with the Typhoon is that there are shiploads of photographs around to help. Have fun, I'm going to enjoy this too.
  10. Nobby yes, this is as brilliant finished as I expected when I saw it the other week And having "done" the old Frog Tiffie kit in my first post here I'm looking forwards to seeing you deal with that one too I think 72nd is a vastly under-rated scale, hard as hell these days wth my elderly eyeballs but to me it still looks "right" Thanks for sharing with us This is a Stringbag to remember, cheers.
  11. Nobby I'm fairly new here and I have no axes in the grinding room so I feel good when I say… This is absolutely brilliant modelling and puts me to shame And your hints and tips as you went along have been great too Absolute magic from an old "almost tired out" kit thanks for sharing with us cheers
  12. That's looking very nice, a far better moulding than Matchbox's, though I have reservations about the width of the filter "box" My HC2 is coming along I must start a "in progress" for it This one looks like a Wessex, really nice
  13. what can I say? a beautiful job, worthy of all the praise it has had
  14. Caught me in the middle of building an HC2 too Yours is looking very interesting and yes, 1/72 scale isn't what it was back in the day I've just picked up after a long "modelling holiday" too… I'm building the HC2 that now lives in Cosford, rest assured I will be following yours and yes, I'll do a W.I.P too. Mine is the execrable Matchbox kit, frankly the worst rendering of Wessexes I ever saw. Who is yours from? I saw the Airwaves stuff and was very tempted, you are right about the seats too I had hours of fun. I'm with you
  15. I remember seeing the two Horsa's at Pegasus Bridge's museum, one real one in a glass case and the "fun" replica on display. The interiors were indeed the usual suspect "Interior Green" ish The real fuselage inside its glass case (OK a bloody big glass sided shed) didn't allow much investigation but I'm sure I saw Int Green as well as well crumbly timber and external Dk Gn, Dk Earth and Night along with the usual invasion striping I wish I could get the missing jpegs out of my hard drive from 2007, one day maybe (dont ask, its a long tedious story)
  16. It is good to finish this rumour off, he was a real character.
  17. I was privileged to chat with Mac many times over the years and like Les heard several differing versions of which were his "own" planes. Never know now sadly, but I think I can state categorically that Mac would deny that Thelma II was a Spitifire. Well in Mac's own words "I had to fly in Tempests, there was bugger all room inside a Spitifire for me" Mac was larger than life in many ways, including his girth which he claimed was with him even through the wartime years. I miss that man, great guy. Les's Almarks sheet looks magnificent I dont suppose this helps much but Spitfire? No!
  18. probably not adding much to this interesting debate but The Typhoon here is painted in the original 1970s Humbrol Authentics Ocean Grey, Dark Green and Sea Grey Medium I had kept the tins in dark storage for all the years when I was an "ex-modeller" and to my eye they have not lost any of their colour "truth" Authentics were well thought of way back then for colour accuracy TBH I am not over impressed with the samples you have shown, not really true to my eye's interpretation of Ocean Grey The loss of Authentics has been one of the biggest disappointments since I came home to the hobby in actual fact even this doesn't look right from the photo, in the polystyrene it looks a tad darker (just a tad)
  19. you'll beggar up those pellets jamming them in there like that Nice model, going to enjoy this one How much of the detail inside is kit supplied, if none- wow Great plane the Varsity
  20. brilliant work amazing workmanship and a bloomin' great idea to build this model
  21. Nick thanks for the further explanantions I do not agree that you are average, though as you say there are many really great modellers like your self on here I have been out of this hobby since 1985 and have just picked up with it again and I admit there is much new thinking and techiques that I will have to learn to use This marvellous set of "how-tos" will really help me come to-wards speed As I am a confirmed helicopter nut your Bolkow is just the stuff to get my interests raised With you along I hope to get better, I can't expect to be as good as you now. I'm old and fading away
  22. your modelling is wonderful Nick Thanks for the tip on thinning Humbrol Putty, I never thought of doing that Excellent, I'm learning more every picture I see Thanks
  23. Now that's the way to do it looks lovely very lovely b
  24. I had forgotten the Bo-102 ever existed. (yes I did know but 'twas quite a while ago) I love the use of modelling clay to cast a vacform from, I'm sure to be learning much from this build. Thanks.
  25. I agree not enough helis on here but you have made a darned good attempt to redress the balance This looks lovely, I love your seats, mine never get that good Please keep up with your progress Promise to keep an eye out for the updates
