perdu replied to woody37's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
That is superb modelling I love your VC10 (and that errant 1-11 too) fabulous colour scheme of long lost days of glory thanks for these -
Looking good, nice start. Before you go too far I have been told that the Italeri Wessex has the tail rotor rotating the wrong way round. Must be worth a check and can be sorted at the stage you are at by turning the blades round. The easy way to check the direction is the tail rotor goes round clockwise when looked at on the side it is mounted on If you look at my model about three pages in on the Ready for Inspection section you can see the way it needs to be. Have fun, Wessexes are great I am thinking of an HAS3 for my next but one Wessex, I think they call it obsession

lovely work, the weathering is just so nest'ce pas The aero-engine song I heard all day most days when I was four or five was Dakotas in flight around Brum, I don't think there was anything else in the sky for years post war magic machines magic -
I'm a great believer in "if there's one in a box in the spare room it should be built", like Allan. And I'm a great lover of British postwar aviation And I always loved the Herald and the Dart Herald in particular put all that together, what do you get A huge admirer of your work I can imagine how much hard work you had to do to get this beauty this good It is marvellous

Oh boy Skii you know where to hurt a boy dont you €13 plus the model wow I might just get in there, looks like a fabulous set Thanks

A lovely Ashton. And a hell of a good collection. Is that XV814 lurking prettily in the background? I remember making a model of her from the old Frog 1/96 model many years ago. The Ashton might not have been pretty but was a remnant of Britain's desire to be at the forefront of aviation, quite simply, happy days.

might be a bit of a copycat reply but great weathering bloody great Cobra too but I do not think I have seen a better example of weathering that looks "right" on a model before very well done you should give lessons I'd sign up

Ah yes I remember rivets Zillions of the buggers -

oops, looks like a Matchbox Wessex nose but isn't, that "square" look is what I was trying to eliminate Hi y'all A few days ago I was planning to post a WIP of this but after seeing what was getting WIPed I chickened out But as I have finished I thought you might like to have a looksee When I packed in modelling in 85 this model had just come on the market, I saw it but was generally unimpressed with the square shape that Matchbox made of the nose. The elderly Frog HAS1 was far better in cross section and I might have never made one of these (made a couple of Frog ones, including a conversion to HC2 from 18sqn, though) but when I came back to the fold with my Typhoon, encouraged by my friends on Pistonheads and who also post in here, I found the bug bit deeply I bought this Matchbox HU5 on eBay and resolved to do something with the nose. Much of the detail in the kit was wrong too and I read someplace that the oleo legs were just a tadlet too short and rectified that too. Detailed the fuselage interior with polystyrene sliced from thirty year old sheet. Still worked. Made the cabin passenger seats a couple of times 'til I was happy with them I moulded the pilot's seats and built up the framing for the backrests padded with Milliput. The tailwheel axle beam (thing with three holes in it) was really horrid too, time to mould a new one of them too. Moulded all windows from acetate sheet, so you can see in (and out) and detailed the cockpit including the rotor brake on the ceiling console. Anyway. I offer it for your disposal, tear it to bits if you don't like anything. I made the transfers (decals to you young chaps) using Photoshop, Paintshop Pro and a few images snatched from my decal sheets on my scanner, modified to suit and resized and imported into MS Word 2007 then printed onto an Inkjet Decal sheet from Hannants. Brilliant things they are. Painted with Lichen Green and NATO Dark Green from Xtracolour and later distressed and touched about with Tamiya XF51 Khaki Drab and Revell 67 Grungrau. Further dusted with green, black and brown pastel dusts to give the distressed helicopter look so often seen. Painted to represent XR525 preserved in RAF Aerospace Museum Cosford. Hope you like it.

When Westland's came up with this variation (was it called Lynx 3?) I thought it would be an awesome machine, round about then I "withdrew" from modelling and an overall "interest" in aviation so I lost track but I did see these coming into service I love them and how they have evolved Your model is great, well done. I cant wait to see the finished machine As for the screen masking Probably eggs and granny but when I was working on the screen on my Wessex I as always, covered the screen/canopy with Klear first and when masked I painted the whole issue with Klear before painting the "colour" coat This has prevented paint creep getting in a bu--ering up the screen

wow truly nice work I like your description of how you feathered the edges Its what I try to do but cannot ever describe OR ACHIEVE! one day I should get you to take me into a quiet room so you can talk me through the oil paint weathering business Spits are perfect aeronautical devices yours lives up to it, by the look of this one can you tell I like it
-
do I have to tell you how good this is? Not a chance I think the world's finest helicopter modellers congregate here and they all look up to your work marvellous stuff, wow Am I jealous? Oh yes, not 'arf fabulous work
-
This is without doubt one of the finest pieces of helicopter modelling I have ever seen Skii Not only the attention to detail but the fact that it looks right all over I feel honoured to see it evolve cheers
