  1. Its an awful time when dealing with family bereavement Chris, condolences mate. The brass hinges are becoming little metal marvels, loving them.
  2. I am in awe with knowing somebody that can actually do the working out Ben. Well I think we nailed that then
  3. Nigel never forget my mantra mate, sculpting is no more than releasing the shape from prison. Alan was probably, no definitely the biggest influence on my modelling future back then and I did have the opportunity to tell him about a couple of times when he shared judging with me at Modex83 and 84, Brum IPMS's show. My hero
  4. Its nice to see Alain along with us here, mind you I am bebeggared if I know how he keeps up with all those projects on the boil and such a demanding career. As he has mentioned I know the strains of that job very well.. Now I am getting very much happier with the AH-9A, I feel I do now have the essential shape about right and there is nothing much now I do need to fettle with Think? And I hope someone reminds me to attend to the missing collective...
  5. I will not attempt to detract from Ben's information but do take care when dealing with the taper on the blades In actuality although there might be taper it certainly isnt massively tapered Try not to allow an over-emphasis on the taper, it's there and I think Airfix were just about right with the Scout model's blades. As used a while back
  6. These are brilliant, downloaded and safe in my Hastings folder Thank you very much
  7. Hmm I have heard of others using it but from my personal perspective it is far too stinky for me to get a free pass when using it. All modelling materials in everyday use have to pass the "Oi what is that evil stink you are making AGAIN?" test which is why even though it is of less than optimal usage in general modelling I have to use PPP if I can't make rapid progress with Milliput Odour control is King Queen in our house these days.
  8. This came Usual very quick service from the land of smiling cardboard Inside Posh huh, so with these too I can Crack on with Carving wax Courtesy of the eBayer This is supposed to be carving wax I wouldnt like you to think it will give me hours of fun, but I do concede there will be times ahead... I think the only way to work it will be a freshly sharpened tenon saw. It does not like knives or very hot metal blades and I read there is a possibility that working the stuff can make it even more difficult to play with... Fortunately Milliput is working out to be more tractable... And I found my little bottle of Lurve potion numb tube of Perfect Plastic Putty. Phew
  9. I give in/gave in A set of decently expensive waxing tools have been ordered Mutter mutter mutter... things I do to keep my mates happy... mutter mutter mutter...
  10. Mind you, can you remember back a ways when we were advised to buy those wonderful Pixnor tweezers. I have worn out bent or mangled those ones so this week I bought a new set. That's how I prefer to buy replacement tools these days.
  11. Ced can moan for himself... Were he to think it necessary. I wonder how the relocation is going by the way?
  12. I have copious numbers of other tools and am fairly sure I'm not about to add more for a task I'm unsure there will be a need for
  13. My bad G, not £4.00 it is £4.58 GOLD WAX CARVING BLOCK 100x50x20mm CNC JEWELLERY LOST WAX CASTING - | eBay failing to make a link with it too Giorgio, sorry. My ineptitude gets bigger by the day Try again https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252640331047?itmmeta=01HSGRK7Y80MZTB3QJJ09CHK49&hash=item3ad2898527:g:KzkAAOSwiDFYLcPZ&itmprp=enc%3AAQAJAAAAwAoqLuhNObz56GGVs0jL635WLZx4tGMb7Skvf1wLLf7TleQbChZl%2F4ieLoFFekXZRhG7oSuJ46467%2Bz7ReqtK4bYfJQuMzbc492C2jkgmrHJaTPIbLE0v5irKApeqOeQcl5DKl0EFoAK8ebIr56H4F7WA1ybFqO79EPhz5bxTM1j89lMeMUQ3wCmYkReNCniU8KPhLfC7icMjj5GwkCiGO6aNnzWJMjQCBjL6u%2BOrchp3iii3eWF1tWQ4s09noiXvA%3D%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR5T_zJjMYw This ought to open as GOLD WAX CARVING BLOCK 100x50x20mm CNC JEWELLERY LOST WAX CASTING etcetera So this morning I got on with removing unnecessary Milliput Uberfile akimbo A good eighth of an inch off the top please so whilst filing I took a look at the target device the AH Mk9A Lynx with a different undercarriage and the latest style of power units. The engines and gearboxes seem to have made it unchanged onto WIldcat, but I don't have a timeline to play with about that so I will just surmise someone convinced civil servants that bunging stuff onto a modified Naval Lynx would be a major upgrade so lets not carry on with the AH Mk9A, just have it straight into Wildcat. End of written speculation, that's all I'm saying but... So I have continued with the AH 9A for for now in the knowledge that if I can cast the upperworks I will be well on the way towards Wildcat. Looking around the AH9A I spotted a strake down the tail boom as if it was a Sea King-alike I know she will have a shortened horizontal Stab and reversed direction tail rotor direction, I think it'll be fun finding out anything else... That doesn't count the bigger wheels front and back already noted And BERP rotor blades. Back in the mists of time when I was given these two failed models to play with, hopefully fix, the Navy one had badly misaligned BERPS on it as well as the unused normal blades neither of which will do for this one but in my Stash of 'Maybe Use In The Future' resin bits lurks a set of Pavla BERP blades which have a much more believable tip section than the ones in the bag of damaged bits. Onwards and upwards When the wax arrives , probably in the morning I can have a play
  14. I gave in yesterday afternoon Colin, wax is winging its way towards me as we speaks, only £4 for the experiment Be daft not to
  15. As it happens I do have something of that ilk meandering its way towards me as I speaks Ian, maybe not as delightful to own or use but a substitute which will earn its keep in short order, I hope. Also, for the craik I have a small block of carving wax making a similar but not linked journey towards me too I intend sticking with Millilove but a knowledge of les autres cannot hurt no?
  16. I really can work with Milliput, thank gods. Here some of the deliberate excess has been whittled away Still quite a lot to whittle away but at least with Milli I can whittle Unlike the other thing I tried out As this dried out parts of it shrank and there is obviously no room for a file in its future And for durability? Nah, no hope.
  17. I looked it up Giorgio, carving wax, used by jewellers amongst other and employed often for lost wax casting. Not for this actual tasking of course but revered for fine carving jobs. If I'd known about it I would have used it from the off, but... This makes me far happier and in some kind of control. New packet obtained whilst out grocery shopping and now I feel I'm driving again. Winning now and the Milli was drying as I was eating my Tuesday evening Steak Night and is now ready for stage one, the Uberfile. I expect you have noticed I've moved from the 'mule' onto the intended AH mk 9A. I do hope I can get something done with the clay model to cast from,' acos buying £20 of carving wax isn't part of plans A to P and must join the queue way back downline so tomorrow we can take a bit of a look at the mule, lets call it Muffin. Tomorrow during other endeavours. I've seen claims that Westlands used left over Whirlwind parts for the AH 9A, bull doody I calls it the actual suspension was more like the swinging frame suspension of US Army Wessexes than the Whirly swing arm.
  18. That is planb Alan in Milliput but wax Colin? What kind of wax are you thinking of?
  19. This is't going to work for me, simply not sufficient materials handling experience I'm afraid but until I give up and buy a fresh* load of Milliput I am going to see how far I can take it. You never know... This morning I awoke and had a fresh morning random memory. Slip it said, you need slip, which I remembered from my second year at St Phils, Art first year, Ceramics second year and Woodwork from the first year on Thursdays. Ceramics had me making a little pot from clay worms and next an elephant of dubious shape and colour. Swiftly drawing a veil over them although mom loved them, I remembered having to use slip to join stuff together, and I think maybe to make oddball additional shapes. Thinning out airdying clay eventually gives a kind potentially useable slip-type-thinn, apologies to 'those that know' for goons reference inherent in that awful pun. Using the thinned clay as an adhesive/quasi fresh component I made the 'ear-style jet pipe extensions and had another attempt to refine the bulky roof shape. Poor but not awful, huh? Be warned, this thread could disappear into the ether at any time, I hate this stuff How the very hell does one make it smooth without overindulging in wetness that will undoubtedly result in fault lines as the clay dries? I dont know but I feel a call to my LMS for fresh Milli coming any morning soon...
  20. I might still have preferred Milliput but for now the experiment continues It is certainly mouldable with fingers and small palette knives, I am wondering whether it will be sandable after drying though. In the mean time the shape begins to appear in the tissue dampened plastic bag I wonder what kind of filler might work if any, back into damp tissue limbo again until the morrow. laters...
