The Valley Of The Vixens, where Avons love to tread.
perdu replied to perdu's topic in Work in Progress - Aircraft
Quite likely to remove all and every portion Alan, those carbuncles are a parasitic fit over the slimmer main booms. If you look at this picture I took at Bruntingthorpe one very noisy day you can see that they were bunged up on top, undoubtedly in a most aerodynamic manner with a sealant along the edges. The art will be to find the proper shape where the plastic won't be then. Ced Giorgio has explained it well enough that I am sure I won't have to. -
The Valley Of The Vixens, where Avons love to tread.

Nah no chance Ian, my French is atrocious. And I cant handle his tremendous array of beers. -
Whilst it might appear that I've become bogged down with trainers and Hawkers I find myself drawn back to a couple of Sixties machines of raw Avon power. For all the interest youthful Perdu took in Spitfires, Saviours of the Galaxy I've not been too attracted to Supermarine's Jet Power types so the Swift and the Scimitar are far below my radar horizon, so far they don't even have faint echoes. But I do love the awe-inspiring roar of the mighty Avon so this little pocket of my endeavours is providing space for fantasy and fiction. A while back, quite a while back I did build this But to be honest I didn't want to. No, no I don't mean I didn't want a Vixen, I didn't want an F.A.W.2. I wanted a F.A.W.1, sporting Firestreaks. Lovely jubbly. Anyway whilst building the F.A.W.2 I got hold of a second Frog kit in its guise as an Eastern Express moulding. Here's the very box of it. Now I know there are several, er shall we say deficiencies with the Frog version but it does not matter. This is what I have in my hands, needs building to begin a stash clearing exercise and it looks vaguely possible to amend the F.A.W.2 conversions given a stonking great razor saw and the faithful SIHRSC. And plasticard and Milliput. And reference to Tony's @The Baronmegabuild sketches and inspired leadership. Really can't go wrong can we? So a beginning, not quite a start. Top of the centre section: Those boom mounted tanks have to go Later. What's the inside like? Crivens, they're deep huh? Where to begin? Try to trap the shape. Those valleys are full of directional changes doh! Brace thyself lass. Another thing to consider, the kit canopy is also less than optimal. Unless there should be a stonking gurt air bubble in the clear bit. Yukkkky, see boys it isn't only Airfix that can 'compromise' clear parts. Now I have broken the ice consider this: Two becomes one Also. Two Avons, check? Frog based kit, check? Extra unexpected difficulty? Check Pavla cockpit and a thing to shove down a hole to give depth. Well we'll see. Ciao baby.

OOOooops I had a Hasegawa BAC Lightning that I was using for spray mule purposes A major drawback was that it had a lovely Pavla cockpit interior and several front end modifications which had it slated for a future Lightning build but had a terribly out of line tail pipe end. I read somewhere that Pavla had succumbed to the 'going out of business bug' so it became advisable to rescue the good bits from the bad bit, didn't want to waste those bits anyway so out they had to come Shocking overspray in there too, going to tuck these pieces in the box with my other Hasegawa/Frog/Novo lightning for a rainy day That is one of the jet pipe pieces going in the box too.

Yes amigo, decided This is to be XS695/5 as she resides in stately grandeur at the Royal Air Force Museum in R.A.F Cosford A possible American version remains open to you for our pleasure and entertainment mate I have already printed the Tri-Partite Squadron decals for this one so "that's all folks!" You will see two versions of the multi-owner fin flash, XS695 wears the ones on the right, it seems likely the paler blue section was used on another Kessie, I am fairly sure I have seen such in photographs There does not appear to be underwing serials but before the job is done I will go along (It's only just up the road after all) and inspect her for omissions and errata

Its time to take stock and add Greeblies Kestrel XS695/5 looks smooth all over, so smooth that mine looks utterly vile under the glare of flash and inspection. That is next on the agenda although to the bare nekkid eye the surface blemishes are next to invisible, but actually on inspection Ol' Number Five has several sticky outy bits that cried out to my OCD in the wilderness, "add me, add me" they cried So I did and this is just the start Atop the fuselage, one pair just inboard of the FIRE PANEL And another pair over the intake just beside the canopy and at the very back above the tail braking parachute an exhausting type vent Further forward is another of my well known mistaken identity mistooks clarified here by @Julien 's excellent walk round photos I added two small blisters here last night, today in the unforgiving glare of daylight obviousness I see they are actually small intakes set behind the wing root Well that will be easy enough to add instead of what I erroneously thought were two blister fairings The model: If I forget please feel free to nag me about adding the spilt to the pair of emergency pump doors in front of the fin There will be a chute-alike stuffed up the tail tube but do not, I entreat you expect a working parachute Yes dammit the little hatch needs rescribing Dammit Oh well

Welcome Dmytro, bring on your figures and vehicles for us to enjoy please. Your English is fine and I expect we would like to see the collectibles of your father's business too.

Hi if you like I can copy what I did to you although most of it is in the WIP Colin sent me his everything S-61N he had including some resin sponsons which turned out to be undersized so I used them to make bucks for moulding vacformed sponsons The undersized sponsons would have driven my OCD barmy so... Not nice but serviceable As you see I made upper skins and then added lower skins to them. I made them both over the same bucks so I would only have to open the hole for each side. I still have Colin's original Airfix page as well as the actual AIrfix mag(s) it was in (Two of the originals) if you want it It might take a while to get to QLD The sponson mounting was not huge fun. Not especially happy with how Colin's masterpiece ended up, in my hands, but at least it scratched a deep seated modelling itch. PM if I can help. Perdu / Bill

I did my first gliding in Colerne in '62. Auto-launch behind a Ford V8 Pilot with half the roof removed. That was nearly as exciting being on cable duty as flying the Lovely Sedbergh. A great start to ATC times ahead, hours of flying in the Hastingses.

Well I found out why the wing root kept 'showing'. The file and sanding stick were not actually touching the high places with cutting teeth, every pass took a little layer but a cavity under the surface was allowing the main part of the surface to flex down and away. Lets fix that first Because the wing is from an Airfix Harrier it has a different root slot height and as I have been filing the upper part to shape it and the layer has simply said "ow, gerroff I am NOT playing with you mate" Remedy, cut out a slot Decide how to replace the out of plastic space I know use a piece of sixty thou Slater's Trim to fit Glue it in with cheapo cyano Out with the files and sanding sticks and pray to Polystyrus, the god of plastic modelers that this will work

Had to touch her this morning Giorgio to allow part one and two of the toughening process to commence Valentines day present for little Jaypee, two light coats of TS-79 Semi Gloss Tamiya spray Another coat tomorrow and then I feel safe beginning the rest of the colour coating.

Timely reminder Pete. righty tighty Planning to let the JP sit a spell and get on with the Gnat

Touch in happened Let's us see... Not convinced but now it can have a few days of sinew stiffening before any further treatment.
-
Why wait? Mostly a matter of... Awful surface treatment and a result of using clear UV resin as a quick and easy filler. It ain't. However some work has been done in the rectifying unit down where this lives, limbo perhaps. I seem to have the wrong National identifier, these days it needs to say UK not GB. First world problems huh. Filing and sanding, sanding and filing gets me to here. And the photo emphasises how badly I applied paint by brush, yukk. The entire airframe needs a blast from some Albion Alloys sanding sticks and probably (almost certainly in fact) even more filling. Underneath where the wheel wells have been carved from virgin polystyrene was even nastier, if I do say so myself. Not pretty yet, but you should have seen it before. Remediation occurs... I thought I'd throw in some appreciation for Mr Eduard Super-etcher "afore I go" There is no way I could have done the auxiliary generator hatch scribing without a set of Eduard Outlines. I used the one nearest to the wingtip here, lovely when bent round the fuselage contour. Almost all the hatches known to mankind probably.

I hope you don't have the trouble with hydraulic tappets my mate Dave has had with his camper/bus. Really does look really real, absolutely tremendous modelling Alan. -
