doorgunner replied to Crossofiron1971's topic in Aircraft WWII
Hello, I have scratchbuilt an 1/1 scale mkI spitfire panel and studied a lot the variants. Now I am building an 1/32 scale mkI spit as an early a/ and can count: Landing flap instrument Twin fuel gauge 48 and 37 galls Very large boost gauge Early style Jaeger Le Coultre clock No canva hood on landing gear indicator Different propeller control handle near the throttle for: 1) early two blade prop 2) early three blade prop Early style Rotax starter pushbutton Ammeter Metal pilot seat No oxygen tube on right side Single step rudder pedals That are the main features of early MkI respect to the late ones in my memory.... early MkI Spitfire flat canopy in 32nd scale ?
doorgunner replied to doorgunner's topic in Aircraft WWII
hello keith and thanks a lot for your kind offer ! I really need that part (flat on top and sides) to realize WZ-T an early mk I that flew together with "yours" WZ-C. please contact me offline at mausab28@yahoo.com thank you maurizio -
hello, I am converting a Mk II Revell Spitfire into an early Mk I in 32 scale. I am starting thinking how to do with both windscreen and canopy I wanted to sand smooth the first in its front part to eliminate the sign for the windscreen, then add a custom made decal to simulate the rectangular front frame. The canopy instead, was the flat non-domed one. It is available in any kit (for example to Hasegawa Mk I) or any aftermarket available please ? TIA ciao MAurizio

Hello, as promised, here are some pics of the radiogoniometer antenna, fitted to MC202/205 fighters during WWII. The first is a co-belligerent C205 Veltro while the second is a Regia Aeronautica Breda-built C202 at Naples in summer 1943. HTH ciao Maurizio
-
Hello Tbolt the radiogoniometer could be fitted since the first series of c202, then became more or less a typical featurws of series I c205s. Many pictures are available showing a rounded antenna (like a large glass) under the tail boom fuselage...and some shows also the indicator in the instrument panel. I have many of them but am on vacation now. I'll post them once back home. Ciao Maurizio

Hannants at next Duxford 19th september airshow
doorgunner replied to doorgunner's topic in Aircraft WWII
Yes I have sent an email a week ago with no response.... -
Hello I will be at Duxford on 19th september to the Battle of Britain airshow and would like to know if Hannants shop will be there to do a pay and collect please. Thanks a lot Maurizio

Hello John, I cannot reply you about the mirror but I can help with the gunsight. Spitfires up to MkVc had the early style oval-glass MkII gunsight. So were MkVa's. I was told by a Barr & Stroud former employee that the switching from oval to rectangular glass was actuated due to the difficult many firms had to realize such precise-cut oval glass. Rectangular was easy and could be done by almost everyone. HTH Ciao Maurizio

Hello I have to ask for a last question regarding the white underwing stencils. Those under the black left wing were indeed white. Are they available in 32 scale as decals please ? Tia M
-
Yes that's exactly what I was looking for...now it is all clear. On early MkI: - flat canopy (side and top) was fitted with oval knock out panel ? - windscreen had a rectangular or curved front frame ? - no aluminum bullet deflection panel over the fuselage fuel tanks ? - "L" shaped black line walkways only on left wing. Right one was straight from tip to wing root. Tia Maurizio

Thanks Edgar, I suspected they were a little too "perfect" and trying to correct them would result in a real mess... There was no rear and upper (triangular) armor plate and no headrest...? Is there any close up pic of the balance arms fitted on the rudder please? M
-
Thanks a lot to jimaas and Edgar...very precious tips..thank you. I wonder why there wasn't the pot-shaped voltage regulator behind the pilot's head and if the metal seat was left unpainted or grey-green painted. The two coloured roundels were obtained by modifying the four-coloured ones ? If so, a shadowed surround circles (fresh paint) have to be added ? And furthermore...Revell moulded the upper wing wheel bulge in a perfect ellipse way, but I saw in other kits that these bulge were in a more drop like shape and not parallel to the fuselage. I will not modify them...but are they correct ? Thanks so much Maurizio

Hello, I am starting building a new spitfire in 1/ 32nd scale and I am very interested in building a very early mkI. The features I want for my model are: -flat canopy -two bladed prop -unarmoured windscreen - tall antenna mast I am modelling a mkII revell new spitfire and the things I have already changed are: - fabric covered aileron - bent tubolar lever for retracting landing gear - no mkI gunsight but instead a bead and sight ring The question I still have are regarding the: - metal pilot seat (any picture and any firm that does it in 32nd scale?) - it seems that some of the wing mg muzzles are protruding Now the specific a/c to replicate...any suggestion please ? I am almost convinced to do WZ-T that seems to have all the requested features. Why it had only an upper wing roundel ? What was its serial ? Were the lower part of the ailerons and movable part of the tailplanes painted silver ? Thanks in advance maurizio

Hello, I would like to study a MKI Hurricane instrument dashboard (possibly during BoB period), can anyone post some pics please ?. Any help will be appreciated Thanks Maurizio

Eureka...!! At last I solved the mistery ! There are four holes in the plate where the lockwires come through ... Thanks a lot to you all for the patience in such strange questions...(sometimes...)
-
Hello everybody and thanks for your kind replies, yes the posted image is exactly the part I refer of and in particular, the two lockwires are seen between the two instruments. I attach a picture to better show, where arrows 1 and 2 are the lockwires, while arrow number 3 shows the small piece of lead the closes the end of the metal wire. They seems to come out of the metal plate the is the back of the whole device, on the left more or less under the letters..."EE" and on the right under the letters .."PP". Thanks ciao Maurizio

Hello I have just completed my full scale 1/1 replica of the Mk I spitfire instrument panel enterely made from scratch (1 and a half year of work..) and a last detail is missing now. I copied in every details the panel of R6692 (daily inspection of a spitfire video) and I am referring to a screenshot where is clearly evident that in the middle of the two oxygen instruments located in the upper left part of the panel, there are two lockwires and a small plumbing at their ends. I cannot understand from where they departs from and wobder if there are some further images available to better understand this. Thanks a lot in advance

Westland Whirlwind fighter top tail light or dielectric ?
doorgunner posted a topic in Aircraft WWII
Hello, I am almost ready to paint my 1/48 scale Whirwind and I am fixing or realizing all the missing or unclear parts. At the moment just two things are left and I hope someone can help please: - as per the below pic, at the top of the fin there was a smal squared item that seems clear or translucent. Was it a light, or the part (clear..?) where the aerial comes through or...? - Someone can help with a clear pic of the retractable ladder ? Thanks a lot in advance Maurizio -
Hello Gunnar, I thank you so much for your kind and detailed reply, now I have the needed info to go on with my model All the best Maurizio

Hello to you all, I have started the building of this kit finding it very nice in surface details and very good in part fittings. Apart from noticed errors, I just would like to know the color of the gear bays and gear doors (aluminum or grey-green ?), seat, rear canopy deck and glazing inner frames.I would like to know also the measurement of the main wheels (diameter and size), please. I wanted to model HE J serial P6985, an early machine with DE/DG/Night-SKY camo scheme and I wonder if the raised fuel tank shape must be sanded flush on this example. Thanks a lot in advance Maurizio

Barr & Stroud RAF Mk II and MK II*, my new 1/1 scale model kits
doorgunner replied to doorgunner's topic in Aircraft WWII
Hello and thanks a lot for your kind words ! I am happy because other than being a very nice and realistic kit, this has been also a good seller. In 20 days, more than the half of the run is gone. Next step would be the cannon armed spitfire spade grip, if only I find a gun rocker button to be copied....:( Thanks ciao Maurizio -
Hello, I am glad to share with you my brand-new article in full scale, built as a model kit. It is the Barr & Stroud RAF Mk II and MK II* fitted to almost all British fighters of WWII. As usual, this kit is a resin copy of an original one, casted in absolutely non toxic resin. In particular the modeller can choose between two kits: - MK II: is the one used during the Battle of Britain on Spit, Hurri, Defiant etc... It has a curved glass onto a curved head. Part number is 7a/1124. Seen on Spitfire Mk I, Mk II, V, especially on Malta based a/c. The kit is composed of 28 parts. - MK II*: the asterisk indicates the new, upgraded version, with a new head with brackets, and new, squared glass. Part number is 6b/2361. Seen on late Mk V and all british fighters and fighter-bomber until 1944-45. The kit is composed of 31 parts. Parts are casted from original, so they can be assembled as the originals. Wheels rotates and lower wheel can be screwed on the main body. The two lens retainer rings can be screwed as the real so that the use of glue is reduced at its minimum. The kits are available and shipped worldwide. For more information please contact me at: mausab28@yahoo.com Thanks a lot for your attention, ciao maurizio PS: For photographic purposes I assembled one main body as an EARLY version, modifying the data plate with EARLY inscriptions, than replace the head with a LATE one just the time to take the pictures. In the LATE version there are full original data plate engravings.

Hello, in my long research about Spitfire instruments just one and last brick is missing on my wall... The spitfire flap position indicator. I know it was fitted on on very early Spitfires and on early it left a large hole in the panel. I HAVE to make the last hole on my 1/1 panel but I don't know the hole measurement, because I never saw on an original drawing this particular and don't know the AM part number of it. Attached you'll find two pics, one from wartime and one of the Cosford-preserved Mk I. Both of them have it ... Who can help with a size, a diameter of the hole, a part number or a picture, please ? TIA Ciao Maurizio
