  1. I have always liked and now prefer the original first tooling of the Airfix Hawk mainly for the fact that the cockpit was nice, though not perfect and the undercarriage doors. This area is far better and looks to be more accurate than the later new tool mould. And those very fine raised surface details. I know it lacked the wing fences and the strakes being discussed here but I feel it is a better kit with room for improvements. I still have one in rhe original box.
  2. Nice work. Freightdog Models do a conversion for a "whiff" with the same subject in mind. I like the use of the unused serial that fall in the Dominie batch. I had a plan to do one with the radar nose and finish it as FRADU example in the light grey and Dayglo scheme like the Canberra at Yeovilton. This project would have also made use of a Freightdog resin set.
  3. I'm taking a longer holiday from modelling. Much like the reasons you give and mainly because of my medical condition. I might get back to modelling and have signed up on a couple GBs with the hope and view of getting the 'feels' back. Haven't bought anything for a while and really need to thin down the stash and the built collection of which I have, but been selling some. Another contributing reason is its too darn cold in my shed to do anything and getting freezing cramps in my hands. So,aye, when thevspring returns I might too.
  4. I've built around 4 of these kits and not had any issue with the parts.
  5. Thats OK. I have got a Dujin resin kit unbuilt of a T.31 and one made as XN250 which I soloed in back in 1970!!!
  6. Looking smart. Just a pointer, the RCAF CT-133 had a vent on port side rear fuselage ahead of the tail planes.
  7. Very nice. I still have my MACH kit of the DC-4 in Buffalo Airways colours. Waiting in the wings for my possible comeback to modelling is a 1/144 Minicraft DC-4 in the Candy Bomber boxing. But i have a British Eagle set for it .
  8. Just read through this thread, but it set me wondering whether one could make a two seatT.31 from the AZ kit
  9. It'll be something that France has used or Romanian but also something used by the UK. But I still think a 32nd or better still a 48th Stampe.
  10. Oh well. You pays your money and you makes your choice. Yet, Matchbox did an in service Viggen an the Heller one too.
  11. I don't see any mention of the Draken or Viggen here. Both were done by Airfix and Heller plus Hasegawa. All to varying standards, versions and quality. The Heller Draken and Viggen were available with two seat options within the kit as well as photo recce options. Sure they had raised surface detail but fine kits.
  12. Sounds good. I have a couple 1/72 Tamiya ones(FB. VI, B.IV Airfix in series 4 box and the new one ,the PR26 plus a Freightdog conversion to PR34) So depending g how I cope with other builds I might get back to, pencil me in please.
  13. Caproni and Ilya Mourimetz (Not sure of the spelling for the Russian one)
  14. Where can I get one????? Our club has a couple and it would look good in the clubhouse..
  15. ...than downing a pint.
  16. I think they are inspection ports and opened by unzipping them.
  17. My model lacks the balance horns on the elevator under side because I nvever fitted them to avoid them being knocked off. They are included in the Sword kit so will probably be on the AZ one too. Interesting what you say about the extra fuel tanks. I have only seen one colour pic of my build and shows it on floats. I believe the current owner is using it as a landplane and is in a yellow overall finish with trim as thats how the aircraft was restored in Canada before sale to the new owner in the U.S.
  18. AT Duxford this year , apparently there was ta formation of the Lanc and B-17. I didn't see it as I did not go to the show. But many years ago around the mid 1970s, I did see such a formation at one of the At Home days at Biggin Hill. Here is my pic of that day.
  19. Here are a couple pics of the last one I made. Its now in the care of a U.S. owner who has the real 'BJD. The decals I used were by Thunderbird Models. The white flash down the sides are too long and I needed to cut it down and carefully overlap the two halves to make them fit better. The rest of the decals were fine. I have posted these images before but unable to find the link. But I hope it inspires builders and buyers of the AZ issue.
  20. This will get me back into making again. I already have a substantial collection of civvy type from ex warbirds to plain and simple civilian aircraft and have a couple ordinary cars too. As for future builds, I have got an Airfix Cherokee Islander Heron and a couple 144 airliners in the stash carefully stored. It will also be a challenge to many who doing camo things is a doddle. So please add me to the list. Its a theme I have been following and wished for. Its about time! You wait for ages and two come along. Adam Poultney has started one too.
  21. On the subject of tags or labels by models, it is something I do when I show them off at the club or the couple shows I go to. Reason.. I get fed up repeating myself when explaining to viewers of my models and answering their questions. It's no hardship for me typing up brief descriptions of my work an then printing it out and cutting them down to a sensible size. If they get in the way of one wishing to photograph it I'll simply move it. Also having the labels alongside will help those who know very little about what they are looking at.
  22. Some one here is determined to get me back modelling..... How can I resist this GB....... but only if I really try. Pencil me in until the big day. Thanks.
