I got myself a mini woodworking lathe from Proxxon (called DB 250) for the price reason as well:

I works nicely with wood, epowood and plastic, is not occupying a lot of space and easy to handle as long as you do not need mega accurate dimensions. So far I used it for masters of drop tanks, a sea fury racer spinner, Saturn V engines and a Canberra nose for a special radar.

When using wood as a master for vacuforming I seal it with thin super glue, which must be sanded smooth afterwards of course. The nice thing about superglue is that the heat of vacuforming does not damage it so easily as other fillers.

That said I still would love to have a mini lathe for proper metal work. Only the price and my little knowlege puts me off.

What was the price of that rig?

  3. l got their C version looking at me begging to be build. speaking of spitfires l have a little story here. My son is 4 and in junior kindergarten and his teacher told me one day she asked questions about their parents. My son piped up and said "My dad like Spitfires and Corsairs" she asked him what they were and he said " They are WW2 fighters" That's my boy!

However, because I like to make things difficult

Yes you do Bill or at least that is rumours l start  Anyways l have seen this thread but just got to it as l been busy with the kids home this week from school ( back to school for them tomorrow :clap2::yahoo:) so l just got caught up here. Nicely done Bill, workmanship at it's finest! I was going to kit bash the other Airfix  FA2 Sea Harrier with the newer GR 1/3 fuselage at some point but FRS1 was a hard one to figure what is the best. From what l can see here the Fujimi and the ESCI kits are the better way to go for me. Meanwhile l am taking notes as always.

  5. been following the progress on these on Facebook. l am keen at getting the 1/48 decals. My wife is Filipino and l said l would do some Philippine Air Force aircraft. l do have the Sabredog for this and l do have a Peashooter too

  6. Yesterday the wife went out to the local dollar store to find some Christmas decorations to flush out the living room. She came back with a Lindberg 1/32 Gee Bee racer. It was only $4 dollars she said. Talk about the steal of the week! Now l mainly do miltary aircraft but always wanted to do this one. The kit is pretty basic so l will detail it up to bring it up to snuff. Here lies the problem l need interior and structural details. Is there or do any of you gents have info? With all the info l have and l do have tons not one on this particular plane

  7. 4 Wing Cold Lake CF-188 Hornet Crash

Shortly after 11 a.m. today Mountain Standard Time, a single-seat CF-188 Hornet from 4 Wing Cold Lake crashed inside the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range in Saskatchewan, not far from the Primrose Lake Evaluation Range. Tragically, the pilot did not survive.

The name of the pilot will not be released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of our fallen member. A flight safety investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the incident.

  8. why back when l was a young lad my father bought me what was then a new mold Monogram 1/48 F-86 Sabre. Of course being a young lad l rush to put it together ( what was as you may expect for a boy) then later found a photograph of a RCAF bird which l had to do which of course again the work of a young lad. l lost the plane over the years but then one day an acquaintance of mine found one somewhere in the same vintage box as my original and gave it to me. It was almost complete missing only the ejection seat and the decals had seen better days. l wanted to build this out of the box as much as l can like l did with the original but l had to get a ejection seat from Quick boost and decals from leading edge to get the RCAF plane l wanted. l also used Airscale instrument decals in the cockpit. Seeing it was not for show but just for myself l was not worried too much but l did build it to the same standards as l usually do

The leading edge decals fought me all the way. Despite a gloss decaling finish l put down they would not behave properly even with a switch of decal setting solutions. But l am happy with it as it is only going to get put into some sort of case and mounted on the wall like a picture.

    hope you enjoy it
