I've got the Xtradecal Mk IIC set now, so I can make a 2 cannon Hurricane. I've also got the Fly rebox of the Hasegawa Hurricane Mk IIb, so now to see about an SEAC one. I'm sure I'll think of more things to ask about soon. thanks Mike

Totally agree. The Mk VIII has much cooler camouflage schemes, especially the SEAC and RAAF ones. On a controversial note, some people seem to think the Zero was a better fighter (on another part of the net). I think they are very silly. thanks Mike

Mk VIII just because. It was actually the best Merlin Spitfire and has the best and most interesting painting options. thanks Mike

I'm embarrassed, we stock that decal set but I've not looked at it for ages. Might have to get it . Would the two cannon Mk IIc be carrying bombs or drop tanks? thanks Mike
-
Nice work Tony, can you tell me about the decals you used for that? thanks Mike
-
Well, perhaps it's time for plan B then! Which squadrons in Desert colours had the 2 cannon Hurricanes? Maybe I can find some decals for them as I've got SEAC decals left over from the Airfix kit, so I can still do a regular SEAC Mk IIC. I was also looking out for SEAC Mk IIB decals but I've yet to find any. thanks Mike

Did any normal Hurricanes have a couple of cannons removed. I'm not having much luck finding out anything. Also, what colours were the 28 Sqd Hurricanes painted in? thanks Mike

The book is from the same series but it's no 14, Hawker Hurricane from 1935 to 1945, page 38. It's on that decal sheet on page 8. The camouflage colours differ between the two as well. The book has Dark Earth and Dark Green over Med Sea Grey (which is what I'd expect unless told differently) but the decal instructions say Mid Stone instead of Dark Green. I have other spare SEAC roundels. Neither shows any sign of cameras and I don't trust either source 100%. thanks Mike

Hurricane IIC LB615. I have decals for this aircraft and the decal set says it's a IIC but the Pilots and Planes book says it's a PR IIC. So which is it? I fancied making this as it's different, as apparently it had 2 cannons removed. thanks Mike

Awesome! That means I can paint and mask off the wheel bay before painting the underside. thanks Mike

I've looked and can't find it. thanks Mike

Sea Hurricane Mk IIc question
dfqweofekwpeweiop4 replied to dfqweofekwpeweiop4's topic in Aircraft WWII
Thanks, Tony says most likely Sky undersides, so that will do me. thanks Mike -
I have a question for those who have built or are building the Arma Hobby Hurricane. It could help myself and others who haven't started theirs yet. The instructions say to fit the landing gear legs in the landing gear bay pretty early on, before you stick the lower and upper wings together. From a painting point of view, it would be much easier to 'mask' the landing gear bay for painting if the legs weren't there. The question is therefore, how easy/hard is it to fit the landing gear legs after the wings have been stuck together and painted? thanks Mike

I have a question that's come to mind about the White Sea Hurricane Mk IIc from HMS Nairana. The Airfix Hurricane/Sea Hurricane Mk IIc painting guide, says the underside is Sky Type S but the Hasegawa instructions say White overall. Which is correct? thanks Mike

Hawker Hurricane Mk.I 1/72 Arma Hobby

I've got myself one too. I'm trying the basic version but the plastic looks great! thanks Mike -
No worries. I think the roundels in the kit look fairly dark to me but I don't know if they are dark enough. They are certainly darker than on the box art. thanks Mike

That then begs the question, are the markings correct in the kit? The history of the actual aircraft is not really important to me, I just wanted a model of a RNZAF P-40 in these colours. thanks Mike

Well that's all very confusing. It sounds like the kit painting guide is correct then. thanks Mike

It's the colour Curtiss used instead of Sky Type S. I've heard it described as like Sky Type S but more Grey. thanks Mike

That makes it sound like the Curtiss DuPont Sky Grey might be a better likeness. I'll have to look when I get home. thanks Mike

Thanks for the help. I'll be going with Foliage Green and a slightly lightened Sky Grey then. thanks Mike

Hi Alan I have Foliage Green and 2 different Sky Grey's in my paint selection. I've got Sky Grey seen on FAA aircraft and I have the Curtiss DuPont Sky Grey, which was used instead of RAF Sky Type S - would either of those be fairly close? It doesn't have to be spot on, as long as it's roughly similar! thanks Mike

Yeah I know, which is why I thought it was odd that the instructions quote an RAAF colour for a RNZAF aircraft. I thought perhaps they might have meant RAF Dark Green or USAAF Olive Drab. The kit decals are in a darker Blue. thanks Mike

In my experience of building Eduard and recent Airfix kits, I'm not in the slightest bit interested in the Airfix kit, I'll happily wait for the Eduard kit. Eduard kits for the most part are much better than Airfix and I've built a few of each in both 1/48 and 1/72. thanks Mike
