  1. I always use real car rattle-cans. I have for years. Take care, several light coats over a finely sanded primer and then a final 'flood' coat. Ok, not a GT40, but it gives the idea of gloss black...
  2. The other two are commission builds so they are very similar, just different colour interiors and licence plates. Many thanks for all the kind comments you guys.
  3. My comments weren't meant as criticism - more a case of me being an OTT fusspot... lol. It really is a great kit.
  4. Amazing work going on here. Hat off to you sir. Just lovely.
  5. Anything British and classic is a bit of a daydream I'm afraid. Come to think of it, anything British - PERIOD - is all but a daydream. E Type Jaguar, Aston Martin DB9. A few old Lotus cars, 2 of which have been re-released. Lotus 7 and Lotus Europa. As yet, no Elan re-release but Sangyo did a nice kit if you can find it. Airfix even did the Lotus Elite but it's total hens teeth now. Not really much else in plastic. NOBODY does a decent small-scale E Type that is a good shape, although the Airfix 1/32 is about the best - just a dreadful old kit to build unless you're extremely patient. Tamiya's DB9 is very good but very basic engine detail, but then again it isn't an 'old' car.
  6. This is a conversion of the Revell 1/8 kit into a model of an actual race car. It will involve a new bonnet, a roadster tail, hard top, conversion to RHD, Dunlop wheels, decal making and a lot of alterations in the engine bay and interior. Attached are a few pics of the real car - my model is 'supposedly' going to be the same car. Fingers crossed...
  7. 1/8 scale cars are quite rare apart from the crop of part-work kits of which there are now quite a few. The next option is to totally scratch-build the cars you want. Time consuming but not necessarily expensive apart from getting a body made. I used to hand make my bodies but now I get them 3D printed and scratch make everything else...
  8. If you meant the Entex Porsche, it's been out of production for over 25 years. It pops up rarely on Ebay so tends to go for bonkers money - around £1500 and up. Best Balsa kits had one for £3,500 recently - and sold it! If you mean the E Type roadster, it's the Revell kit with my own roadster rear, roof and Dunlop wheels...
  9. I thought some of you might be interested in my E Type that I actually built for DeAgostini/ModelSpace. It's on the forum pages as a custom build. I used the DeAgostini kit but added a full leather interior, completely new seats - the kit ones are not quite right. I completely cut up and altered the kit engine to get it a better overall shape. Carpets, head-lining, MOUNTAINS of extra engine detail. Removed countless screw heads I didn't want to see. Carb linkages added. Fabric wrapped wiring looms added. I corrected the three fluid bottles (brake and clutch) which had the lids on the wrong way round, added brake and clutch pipes, modified the radiator, air box, heater control valves and added the missing ones, carpeted the glove box,, changed the dash gauges for photo-correct ones... The list goes on and on. It's a superb kit that can really be gone to town on. It's easily up there with anything Pocher have done in their new range. You can now get it as a full kit from DeAg - highly recommended. I'm currently building my third one.
  10. You can get the 1/8 DeAgostini E Type as a full kit now. A tad more than if it was Pocher but it builds into a stunning model with genuine wire wheels. LOADS of scope for upgrades too. I'm currently building my 3rd...
  11. The windscreen is from a roadster - not a coupe. Completely wrong. Could it be though, Revell are planning a roadster variant in the future and it would only involve altering the roof and upper tail... Mind you, as usual the steering wheel is on the wrong side. It's a BRITISH classic fgs.
  12. I built this one a few years ago and if it's ANYWHERE at £89 at the moment, let us have a link. I'll definitely buy one again.
  13. This is one of those 'Grail' kits that people seem to drool over these days. Yes, it's utterly HUGE but in actual fact it probably contains LESS detail or parts than the Tamiya 1/12 Porsche kits. However, the size does give scope for added bits and stuff. First off - the size of the box. The top picture shows the Porsche kit near the top of a pile and the box at the bottom is the Tamiya 1/12 kit. Yup - it's big. Anyway, the basic engine has been assembled and some extra wiring added. There will be a lot more in due course. On we go...
  14. Well done in rescuing that lovely old model. I'm a great fan of restoring old Corgi and Dinky toys. I've done quite a few myself. Regarding getting that metallic finish... I did a little Corgi NSU Sport Prinz a while back which was a similar colour. I sprayed the body Halfords chrome, left it a few days then gave it a coat of Tamiya clear red. It worked quite well. I'll see if I can get a pic and post it. Re: nobody makes decent little cars any longer - have a look at Autoworld on Amazon. I've bought quite a few. They really are amazing for something quite small: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=auto+world+1%2F64&adgrpid=53589317472&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIqeX51J3f6gIVE9d3Ch0xNQ1_EAAYASAAEgJ5jfD_BwE&hvadid=259088772374&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9045076&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=16529450998135884156&hvtargid=kwd-309482607309&hydadcr=14878_1829176&tag=googhydr-21&ref=pd_sl_7sokmnwsi5_e Also, M2 Machines: http://www.m2machines.com/products.html Keep 'em coming. I love these old toys.
  15. Really great work there. I've built about 6 of these over the past few years, mostly converted to roadsters. Another two in my stash. Regards 1/8 scale, not much out there in plastic. If Porsche is your thing, I'm currently building the 1/8 Entex RSR 935. Hens teeth to find and mental money if you get one. Good fun though. The Heller Citroen is hands down, the BEST model car kit in plastic you'll ever find. I've built it - my build is here somewhere - and it's amazing. INCREDIBLY detailed, VERY complex. Over 40 frets of parts.
  16. Hello Dave. I'll be starting a build thread here and on ModelSpace as soon as I begin - which will be soon...
  17. I looked at The Works for the book recently - no longer available. Cheapest I can currently find is top-dollar... With regards stripping the paint on my model parts - I'm not going to even try. I will give the parts a very serious smoothing and sanding and then prime with Halfords primer. I'm very well aware that whatever the model manufacturer uses, the finish is INCREDIBLY hard to remove. Nitromors barely touches it and you will end up with a terrible orange peel finish that will be rock hard and extremely hard to fix.
  18. I've been a Dan Dare fan for donkeys years and have the entire collection of Eagle comics. (As well as TV-21) I also have the Dan Dare strips in the gigantic, superb Hawk hardback book collections. I've been trying to get a good model of Anastasia - Dan's ship, for many years but for whatever reason, nobody makes one. SOOO - The upshot is I'm going to make one myself. I think that to do it any justice, the finished model will need to be around 18" (460mm) in length at least. TBH, I'd prefer it at around 24"- 30" but my vac former can't make the parts large enough without resorting to loads of bits that need fixing together. Even at 18" though, I'll be able to add interior detail through the 'greenhouse' windows. I'm going to make it in clear plastic, vac formed, so I will be able to have all the windows just by careful masking before paint. That way, there will be no fiddly adding separate clear windows to the model. As a vac form, I'll have to create the masters first but after that, I'll be able to make as many as I want if things go wrong. The attached pic is a model someone else made for themselves. Am I potty... Are there no other people out there who have wanted a model of Anastasia? WHY has nobody ever made such a kit??? Am I the only old twit who has wanted one?
  19. I'm currently collecting the parts - so far up to month 4, so about 15-16 issues... As with your proposed 1/12 build, I too will be converting the 1/8 DeAg kit to a different car. I'm fortunate to have a friend who has a genuine 1960's original and he wants me to model his car. It will involve a lot of modifications, especially the body. Hey ho - on we go...
  20. There is a very good Haynes manual on the GT40 with umpteen detail pics that would be of great help. It's not a cheapo book - about £25 but you might find a used copy... Oh, and Dave, yes, I'm building the 1/8th DeAg one... Roy.
  21. These were a while ago. I was invited to the Lister factory to get details, pictures and plans of the cars for a scratch build project... A great day. About 200 pics in all.
  22. Hello Trevor - Funnily enough, it WAS red to begin with until I was commissioned to build the silver car.. That also involved filling one of the side vents and modifying the bonnet.
  23. Hello Cliff. No - I trim all my model seats and interiors in leather myself...
