  1. It's taken me a while but I've just worked out what SAHB is. I think. Sensational Alex Harvey Band. No idea what the reference is... one of their songs? I also remember there was SAHB Without Alex. Great modelling skills, wish I had half the talent! Kev.
  2. A few days later and it would have been April Fool's Day!
  3. That looks lovely, Flipper! Beautiful finish to the bodywork.
  4. Thanks, Shaun! Here's a dry fit of the side panels and wheels to see how it looks. The chrome decals do look like they need a bit of TLC though.
  5. Ok, I've started on the Lotus again after losing my enthusiasm with the Ferrari 250GTO. I want to get this finished and I've put the GTO on hold. I've added fuel lines to one bank of the V8, painted the radiators and added a few more carbon decals. I should finish the cockpit next, then start on the plumbing and ancillaries. I want to get this done so I can crack on with the 917 and DH88 Comet which I intend to paint to match my own Lotus!
  6. I agree with you about being spoilt by the holy trinity! I guess kits like this make us appreciate good design even more!
  7. But this is where we discuss cars, Sgt. ...and this thread is better.
  8. If you think this kit is bad... Following on from a thread on a Lotus cars forum discussing the most beautiful aeroplanes, I decided to buy the Airfix DH88 Comet kit as it really is a beautiful plane, and there was one left in my local model shop. It's a 1950's kit with a new box, and the kit really is awful. The "crew" are just a couple of blobs of plastic. Luckily it is only 24 parts (roughly) and cost less than $10 (2 coffees). The Fujimi 917 is a modern marvel in comparison!
  9. Just paint it in black and white! I'm a genius!
  10. I'd love the big red book but can't afford one. The Haynes will do for me!
  11. Good luck! And dammit you've made me go and search for the two Tamiya kits. 😎 Luckily I can't afford them. Edit: Just saw Keith's Carrera. Now I want one!
  12. Hi Cookie, Could you find someone (on here?) who would buy your Hiroboy vouchers at face value so you have the cash to buy the Lambo from somewhere else? Not me, though, I'm on the wrong side of the planet! Kev
  13. Shaun, Do you have the Haynes manual for the 917? Not too expensive (compared to the more comprehensive 917 books) and plenty of useful info. Kev.
  14. I had both an early RD350LC and a late RD305LC YPVS. Loved them. A bit small for me at 6'2" - my Hypermotard is a much better fit. I have one of these kits that I built many years ago and painted like my bike. I should get it out and give it a clean up! Good luck with the build, I'll keep an eye on this.
  15. Was there a piano just about to land on it?
  16. Shaun, i just got my kit out (Le Mans winner 1971) and had a look as I'm planning to make it my next build. I cut off the main body parts (sprue A looks exactly the same as yours) and they seem fine, with only a little trimming needed on the rear deck to make it fit. I use Tamiya side cutters to remove parts (I always used to use a knife but found it a bit hit and miss with delicate parts) and the cutters do a fab job of removing parts cleanly. Even on the rear of the lower body (part B26) once off the sprue, just a little cleanup is needed. It has given me more confidence to tackle this kit! Hope that helps.
  17. Do all the Fujimi 917s have the same body moulds?
  18. I have the Fujimi kit of this beautiful car in my stash so I'll watch this with interest!
  19. I bought some clear tube (MFH 0.4mm I think) for the fuel lines and it is much too thin. So, I remembered that I had some fishing line in the garage. It seems to be just the right diameter, so I will be using that for the fuel lines. Just trying to get the inner chassis finished - cockpit almost done as is the front suspension. Will post some photos soon!
  20. Grazie! I have done a little more work, but it is summer here in Australia, and time has been taken up with children, redecorating the house and child-proofing my home theatre equipment. I did get some new speakers, though! Also done a bit of gentle mountain bike riding, first time in 3 years so my bum is a bit sore! Hope to get the Lotus 88 finished then move on to something quick and easy before tackling either the Red Bull RB6 or McLaren MP4-31. Might try and knock out the Fujimi Porsche 917 first.
  21. @FazerThis kit has just come in stock at a local (1700 miles away!) model shop and I'm really tempted after reading about your build. How's that Commando coming along. It is a year since you said you'd have it done in a year
  22. Lovely! Does the original kit have a transparent body shell?
  23. We have a build kind of started on here:
