  1. Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping safe. My winter project is a Vintage Fighter Series 1/24th Tomahawk Mk. 1A I have only ever built Airfix and Revell kits over the years so have been spoilt with detailed instructions including paint guides for each part. This kit is very basic in this department, not even sure what colour to paint the engine block! (assume satin black as a safe bet). I can probably work out the Dark Earth, Middlestone? and Azure Blue camo but am wondering if there is a full colour guide out there somewhere? And re the aircraft green interior, assume that is US colour not British? Should keep me busy for a few weeks..............Forgot to say I use Humbrol Enamels (just like my Dad back in the sixties) Many thanks Andrew
  2. Thats perfect, thanks very much!
  3. Hi I am building an Airfix 1/24th BF109E-4 using Techmod decals. They recommend main colours for wings and fuselage Humbrol ref 92 and 116 with 154 for the yellow nose. AIrfix recommend 31 and 117 with 69 on the nose. I think Humbrol 92 has been discontinued? Any tips or ideas welcomed. Many thanks
  4. Many thanks for all helpful replies, I shall crack on and get her finished!!
  5. Ah ok I will try again. The 1000lb bomb - airfix show a yellow band around the nose and 3 further decals along the length of the bomb - I am asking if these decals go on the top, bottom, left or right side of the bomb. The inner pylons will have drop tanks, no decals required. The outer pylons can be used for sidewinder missiles or (what I called cannons?) the pointed tube thing with multiple holes - ok I don't know if this is machine guns or cannons. Anyway, airfix show this weapon has 3 decals on its side - I am asking if these decals are placed just on the left side of this weapon i.e. with the weapon on the left and right outer pylon, are the 3 decals placed on the left side for both of them? Many thanks
  6. Hi there, its been so long since I posted on this forum I clean forgot I had already registered! doh Just a quick query if anyone can help, I have nearly finished my Harrier, a real labour of love! I have used the Falkland flt option for decals. I have decided to use 2 drop tanks for the inner wing mounting, no decals required, the cannon pods for the outer wing position, the instructions show 3 decals just on the left side, so I am going to assume for each wing, port and starboard, each pod will have 3 decals on the left side? For the centre mounting under the fuselage I will use the large finned bomb (what kind of bomb? - the exploding kind), the instructions show a yellow band around the nose and 3 further decals. Unclear whether these are located on the top bottom left or right side of the bomb, I have tried to find pictures but no luck so far. My assumption is that they should go on the top side of the bomb? Any help gratefully accepted. Then my marathon journey is nearly finished!!
  7. Perfect thanks very much Andrew
  8. The top part of the engine cover (the bonnet if you like) is a very poor fit on my Hurricane - I tried to hold it over a candle flame to apply a little pressure to get it to fit but whoops it kind of melted. Can someone tell me how I can get hold of a new bonnet please? Is the kit still made? Thanks Andrew
  9. thanks peeps, shall do a bit of shopping tomorrow. Started to use the weathering kit for the first time today (having a sickie at home). Used a small brush moistened on my tongue to get things moving - probably not a good idea so I iwill have a damp sponge ready next time. Its taken me over a week to construct one gun carriage which sits in the wing and can't be seen anyway - doh
  10. Thanks for that - how do you apply the Klear? I imagined it would be like a paint on varnish but it sounds more like a spray on polish?
  11. Hello everyone My name is Andrew and I live in Kent. As a boy I made airfix planes and tamiya cars, 3 years ago approaching my 50th birthday I had to fill some spare winter evenings with a hobby - enter ebay and a chance to remake my 1/24th BF109 (and make all the same mistakes). A few years on I have a small stash! I have always made my kits following my Dad's method, tried and trusted just follow instructions, nothing fancy. Then I got a glimpse of weathering and professional washes when I did a search for an RAF pilot uniform for my Hurricane Mk I and stumbled across this site - my oh my what an eye opener (well also so intimidating, the skill levels, wow). But I am inspired to try a little extra to finish off the Hurrcane with a little more detail (then next year I can tackle my Focke and then my Japanese Zero). Quick question to start - several mentions of something called Klear to paint over the wholeplane before you add the decals - what is Klear? Oh yes and how do you avoid the silvering around the edges of the decals. Just to say again - some of the stuff I have seen here is awesome!!! Andrew
