  1. The aftermarket stuff have arrived! All of these goodies comes from Maestro. I'm not sure that I'm going to use them all. We'll see... The airbrake set. I'm going to build them closed but the detail on the underside brakes is very nice. The resin rear end is not so great however. I'm going to use it but I don't think that it will be an easy fit. The shape is somewhat distorted. Perhaps some hot water will fix it? The RAM turbine is a must on any Viggen kit as it always deploys at the same time as the landing gear. The wheels look very nice. I've started building on this rather big project but I don't have the energy right now to upload the pics. Maybe tomorrow? Andreas
  2. Hej Enzo! I think that something is very wrong with this picture!!! I'm confused. You say that you're going to build the Heller kit and provide a pic of the Heller box. BUT, the pictures of the plastic parts are not the Heller kit!!! That kit is the ancient Hasegawa/Frog tooling! If you're going to build that one as a SH 37 you'll have some trouble. It represents the early prototype like the one I'm building. Andreas
  3. I'm having problems with Photobucket today. But here is some more pics to show what I have to work with. The fuselage parts. This kit was started by me about 15 years ago. All I've done is to remove the hatch for the emergency generator. The hump on the spine will be removed. The left fuselage part was damaged with a huge crack. Big part of the wing missing. I haven't decided if I'll repair it or just use the wing from the JA 37 kit. The good news is that I have plenty of references on the Viggen! Plus I have unlimited access to the AJSF 37 at the local museum where I work as a volunteer... Andreas
  4. Hej allihop! Finally I'm allowed to start building... Here is my plan... I'm going to build the horrible Esci 1:48 kit of the AJ 37 Viggen. This kit will be converted into the early version of the first prototype. This is what I have to do: -Remove the prominent "hump" on the spine in front of the fin. -Remove the dog tooth on the leading edges of the wings. -Move the radarwarning devices down to a seperate pylon. These are the pointy things on the dog tooths. -Replace the nose pitot tube with a huge test version. -Use the early twin intakes on the belly instead of the production version with a single intake on the center pylon. -Scratchbuild an instrument panel. -Backdate the ejection seat. -Make my own decals. On top of this I'm going to try and fix some of the MANY errors of the Esci kit. -Fix the odd look of the top of the fin. -Replace the wheels with aftermarket ones. -Detail the cockpit with the Neomega set. -Replace the airbrakes with etched ones from Maestro. -Replace the entire rear end with afterburner and reversing gear with Maestro resin parts. I will probably be very busy on this one. I'd better start building then... :-) This is the kit. I'm going to use some parts from the JA 37 as well since I noticed that my AJ 37 was damaged and are missing some parts.
  5. The landing gear looks just right! Man... you're really fast! You do know that this group build last until January?
  6. Hold it! Stop right there!!! The finlets (or whatever they are called) on the stabilizer where only used on float equipped aircraft. The instructions are not the clearest in the business... :-) Andreas
  7. I'm going to try and backdate the Esci kit into the Viggen prototype in it's early form as it looked like during it's first flight in 1967. There is no correction spine so I will have to build my own. Andreas
  8. Hej! The Safir is one of my absolute favourites. I'd love one in 1:48! There is a replacement vacform canopy from Maestro at Rebell.com. I haven't used mine yet so I really don't know if the fit is better. Maestro also have a stunning prepainted etched sheet for this kit that I really can recommend. Andreas
  9. Nice and quick start! Looking good so far. About the colours... The topside is supposed to be dark green not brown. I think that standard RAF dark green would do just fine. RLM 76 is ok for the underside. This is a SAAB B17 A that is painted to represent a B17 C of the Danish air force. This one is dispayed at the Technical Museum at Helsingör Denmark. Andreas
  10. I can't see my name on the list! I really hope that I'm still in the group since I've been looking forward to start building my Esci 1:48 Viggen. Andreas / Rudolf_Filip
  11. That is a nice and simple kit of an attractive little fighter. Pay attention to the fit of the engine and cowling though. Otherwise you'll end up with a J 22 with a nose up attitude! Ask me how I know... And you may want to change the title of your topic. SAAB wasn't involved in the J 22. It was designed and built by FFVS. Andreas
  12. If any of you guys are building any of these following birds and need references, let me know since I work at the museum at former air base F 10 at Ängelholm. We have a FFVS J 22, J 29F Tunnan, J 35J Draken, AJSF 37 Viggen, JAS 39A Gripen, SK 60 (SAAB 105), SK 50 SAAB Safir and a HKP 3 AB 204 Helicopter. Just let me know... Andreas
  13. I can't wait to get started!!! Andreas Yes, I know that this is an AJSF 37 but since the 37-1 have been scrapped so...
  14. I want to join this Group Build! As a Swede I have tons of Swedish planes but for this build I think I will start with a Viggen. My first build will be the Viggen prototype in 1:48 from the ancient Esci kit. It will be some sort of tribute to that particular plane that was secretly scrapped by our air force museum earlier this year. Andreas
  15. Here is a small update! I've been busy with all the boring stuff that comes with these kind of kits. I've been removing the resin parts from their moulding blocks... :-( But I've also done something fun as well. The wings, tail booms and the tanks are glued! The fit was better than I expected it to be. Great! I must sand everything since the sheen and finish of the plastic is different in all 3 kits. The plastic in the Venom FB.4 is really shiny. Here are the wings from that kit. The one on the right is "unmodified". I've also begun modifying the tailbooms and the stabilizer. The shape of the fins have been corrected (only the right one in the pic below) and looks much better. So far the modifications have been really easy and straightforward. Everything is running along so nicely that I'm beginning to wonder why I haven't done this a long time ago! So this is how my Venom looks right now! Andreas
  16. I've finally started a project that I've been planning for years! The DH Venom is a cool aircraft and I really like it in Swedish markings. I wanted to build one to put next to my almost finished J 30 DH Mosquito that I've built from the Tamiya 1:48 kit. The problem is that there is no kit of the Venom NF.51 in 1:48. This is my plan. I've bought three (not so cheap) Classic Airframes kits. I'm going to combine them to make me a Swedish nightfighter. The nose and most of the cockpit comes from a Vampire NF.10. Front fuselage, tail booms and canopy is from Sea Venom FAW.21 and rear fuselage and wings are Venom FB.4. Here is the result so far... Andreas
  17. Thank you very much! MPM/SH it is then... I'm going to order on of those as soon as I've finished my Hampden. Thanks again! Andreas Samuelsson Helsingborg, Sweden
  18. Thanks for all replies! I'm not very good at the British stuff but I am trying to learn. I like the Anson and I've been itching to start building a model of it. I thought, why not build one with a Swedish connection? What kit should I use for this bird? Airfix or MPM/Special Hobby?. I've heard that it's not an easy build either way. About the "Beauty". I've seen it on several airshows and it's a wonderful little plane. It's not to hard to imagine that he who designed this lovely plane later went on to design the SAAB Draken! Andreas
  19. I've found a pic of an Anson that visited Gothenburg, Sweden in 1945. I'd like to know why there are stripes below the fuselage. It looks like invasion stripes, but in 1945 on an Anson? Can somebody tell me the use of this marking? Here is the link to the site with the picture. http://www.amhult-lyse.se/torslandaflygplats/hemsida_ESGB/esgb_show.asp?xKat=flygpl393 Andreas Samuelsson Helsingborg, Sweden
  20. I like Drakens! :-) My project is to build all the Drakens standing on the flightline on the 1990 airshow at F 10 airbase. There were many of them... I've actually started building some Hasegawas (or the Revell reissue of the same kit) in 1:72. Needless to say they will all be built OOB. I have 13 more of these kits in my storage. I wonder why this kit is so hard to find nowadays... Andreas
  21. That looks stunning! A very nice build of my favourite aircraft. I really like the weathered shades of the camouflage. Very realistic! I have one minor problem though! I hope you don't mind that I come with a slight detail that I think destroys some of the glory of an otherwise near perfect build? The nose is wrong. The black radome shouldn't extend that far back toward the cockpit. Here is a pic of an early J 35 to show what I mean. It has a different colour scheme but I think you'll understand anyway... Sorry for my mistake English, I'm from Sweden and I work at the museum of former F 10 airbase where your Draken was based. Trust me when I say that your build is one of the best I've seen of that lovely bird! Andreas Samuelsson
  22. Hej Fredrik! Not a lot of progress on this model right now I'm afraid. I'm going to post some pictures as soon as I finish my modified cockpit. I'm also waiting for the etched airbrakes from Maestro before I close up the fuselage. I wasn't happy at all with my scratchbuilt ones... May I suggest the next plane to be kitted from Tarangus? I'd love to have a decent SAAB Safir in 1:48 So many different colours and nationalities... and it has that weird ugly/beautiful SAAB-look to it as well. Andreas
  23. I've been busy trying to get the Viggen nose in shape so that it will fit the Lansen front fuselage. It's not easy but I will get there. Here is the test pod that the 32-gamma carried below the left wing. I made mine from a leftover Draken fueltank (Hasegawa 1:48). The nose came from an old Monogram Mustang tank. The fit was perfect! I know that the rear part of the pod is not quite correct but it will do... I'm going to weather so it doesn't sheen so much. Now...where can I find a Swedish 250 kg bomb to put under the right wing? Andreas
  24. Hello Juan! So Max found somebody to this conversion? Well, I'm working on this kit everyday now. I'm taking care of my two year old daughter at the same time so I'm not very effective right now... I have quite a few pics of this bird now. The Lansen group on Facebook have been most helpful. The test pod on the left wing is finished. I'm not so happy with the shape of the rear part but it will have to do. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow! I've been spending the last couple of days trying to correct the shape of the Viggen nose so that it will fit the Lansen. The resin the Pisco nose is made of must be the hardest I've ever worked with! It's like it's made of stone. I've also made some progress in the cockpit. I couldn't find any pics of the rear cockpit so there will be some guesswork back there! The front cockpit is almost finished. I used some parts from Neomegas Viggen set. Some other parts were stolen from Aires Draken cockpit with a little help from Eduard etch. As I said in my first post, this will be a different Lansen! I've been stalling the boring work of making my own airbrakes. I made a couple of attempts but wasn't completely satisfied with them. We'll see what comes first: my brakes or the Maestro aftermarket ones. Sorry for the bad English... I hope you can understand what I wrote! There will be some pictures in my next posting... I promise! Andreas With all the hacking, carving and chopping my Lansen is now looking something like this!
  25. This is going to be interesting! You're a very brave man! This is NOT an easy build. I should know, I've built three... As long as you take it slow and test fit everything at least two times you'll be safe. It's a very attractive machine and I've seen quite a few of these kits built into nice models so don't despair! The worst parts are the landing gears. They are very complex and comes in many small pieces. Study pictures to see where everything goes. Do not use the windscreen on the Maestro vacform! It shape is totally wrong! I hope that I haven't scared you. If you need any more info on the SK 60/SAAB 105 let me know! We have a Swedish SK 60 in the museum where I work. They are somewhat different from the 105Ös but there are also many similaritys. I'll be following this build! I just love the SAABs... Andreas
