  1. I also presume that this would then attach to the standard aerial mount somehow to link to the radios?
  2. I assume this is the attachment point on the T-55 turret. As there seems to be a matching attachment point on the left end of the case would this form the base of the mast?
  3. Thank you - that sounds entirely possible to me, although I have little knowledge of radio operations. I'll keep looking around as the build is not one I plan on starting for a bit but in the absence of further information I'll probably work from the photo of the tamk with the deployed antenna.
  4. Looking at the skif instructions this shows a control box that fits onto the standard aerial mount and the mast fitting between the hatches (on top of the radiation armour patch!). The two are then joined with a ladder type aerial(?) This doesn't seem to match what I can see in the photos. There is also no case for the antenna rods on the turret roof Is this a figment of Skiffs imagination?
  5. Thanks for the rapid input and links - much appreciated. The intention is to model a Soviet tank as I have a fair few Czech ones already and whilst the Tamiya one is a mishmash I believe its closer to a Soviet production than Czech. I picked the Tamiya up very cheap, and it came with a huge pile of aftermarket bits and pieces including a metal barrel, aber etch, tow cables and a resin mantlet. I picked this up from a previous post you made some years ago and have replaced the wheels on all my Tamiya builds to correct this (and the tyre seams are correctly raised on the Miniart ones as well). I'll use a set of the Miniart instructions to help correct as I go although all in all it probably would have been better to start with a Miniart kit as they are far superior to the Tamiya one. I have almost a dozen of them and whilst they are, in my opinion, an intimidating build due to the number of parts they do look superb when built up. I quite like kitbashing so am interested to see what I can make from the Tamiya one. I assume the 10 metre aerial fits on the standard mount, as from the photos it seems to be in front of the commanders position? It is my intention to show it deployed to its full height and braced as I think this would make an eye catching model. Thanks again for the assistance
  6. Hi all, Whilst I'm not doing much modelling at present I am researching a number of future builds. One of these is a T-55AK command tank with the large turret mounted aerial. I know Skif make a kit, but I also know it has a lot of issues so I'm planning on using a Tamiya one I got cheap instead. I'll upgrade the wheels and tracks with Miniart ones and have a Voyager etch set plus some other bits for it. The main issue I've come across is figuring out how the large antenna fits when in use (I'd like to show it deployed) and how it is stored when not in use. None of my books show this (I have a pretty comprehensive library) and numerous internet searches over several months have brought up much. Hoping someone can help? Maybe @Old pro? Thanks in advance Ben
  7. Nice - will follow along as I have this kit and a ton of resin bits for it.
  8. Hi Vallejo do a 4bo in their model air range. 71.017 is the code. I use a fair bit as I build quite a lot of Russian armour in 1/72.
  9. Looking good so far and I like the unusual colour scheme for the T-55
  10. My wheels arrived yesterday courtesy of @TeeELL. Absolutely fantastic and a massive improvement over the kit offerings. All the best Ben
  11. My box of bits arrived safely today, very well packaged and look absolutely superb!! Looking forward to giving them a try once I've braved the cold of the attic to find my javelin kit. Would definately recommend and fingers crossed for the cockpit as well.
  12. Just had a look at my Centaur dozer and the tyres do have the holes around the rim on both the individual wheels and the one piece wheel/track section. No detail on the inside of the tracks, which I can just about live with on the dozer as it will be pretty dirty. I'd hestitate in buying the gun tank version though.
  13. Worth knowing - thanks as probably an easier option than OKB tracks and wheels. Tank models stuff is nice as got several of their wheel sets and the Bedford upgrade. Bit like their Crusaders - luckily with those the OKB wheels are a direct fit to the kit rear wheels Weird as some of the hull details look quite nice. I probably have enough of the Revell kits to only be interested if IBG do more of the non gun tank varients
  14. Worth knowing, thanks, as I've just had a Centaur dozer arrive. Luckily I have a Revell kit I started to convert years ago using a white metal set meant for wargaming, so that could donate the running gear and tracks.
  15. If anyone wants revell cromwell decals I have a few sets spare?
  16. This chap might be of interest as he does a replacement barrel for the Pzh2000 (I have one) and may do one for a T-90. https://microworldtg.wixsite.com/0001 Bought from him a couple of times with no problems so highly recommend.
  17. Not always - the issue with this was trying to get all the plates to line up without glue going everywhere to which I was only partially successful. Thanks Stuart I've been plodding away in the background on a couple of long term projects I can dip in and out of when I get chance but good to be back. I've built a couple of Attack kits over the years. Their newer ones are pretty good but the older ones can be nasty and are (in my opinion) close to unbuildable. Luckily most of them have been replaced with newer kits by the likes of UM. Right - no progress since last post due mostly to work. I did get the kit out again last night to work out what needs doing next and made the unwelcome discovery of a gluey thumbprint right at the bottom of the nose plate over the rivet detail which would make it hard to clean up. Luckily I have two other versions of this kit in the stash and the Mk II has a spare wheel mounted on the nose over where the damage is. Therefore I'll swop the parts over and build this as the Mk II. Phew - that was a save!
  18. After an hour the main hull and lower chassis are all joined and mostly square. I managed to reduce the gap in the nose plate but will let everything harden overnight before introducing it to some filler!
  19. Well after about 45 mins we have this: This has been a pain so far as the hull is made up of flat panels that butt join with little to help locate them. Not helping is the slightly soft nature of the kit with everything needing cleaning up and no edges being particularly crisp. I still have a large gap in the join of the nose plates but hopefully a bit more fettling will reduce this. I've left the lower chassis out for now to help line up the hull plates as the assembly sequence in the instructions simply wasn't working for me mostly due to lack of locating features. More soon Ben
  20. Gratuitous sprue shots: Not too sure about the 3d printed gun barrel as seems a bit rough - may see if I have a metal replacement in the stash. Resin wheels are nice and a big improvement on the kit ones.
  21. Evening All, It's been a long time since I posted any builds on here, and even longer since I finished one but I bought this specifically for this GB so here goes. I can't promise how often this will progress as my modelling time is a little thin on the ground at present but here goes: It's a nice looking kit on the sprues and I bought the profipack edition with resin wheels and 3d printed gun barrel. Not sure what option if any I'll go for from the decals yet as I may see if I have some alternate markings in the decal sheet box. My only gripe initally is that the hatches are moulded closed. It also comes with the turrets from the previously released Mk II and Mk III as spare. More soon (I hope!) Ben
  22. Hi Stuart Thanks for this - I've found an email address for costal craft so will get in touch and see. If not thats a good idea and will give it a go 👍 All the best Ben
