  1. I think your dates are a little out Kevin? The Berlin Airlift finished 12 May 1949 and the RAF first delivery of the Beverley didnt take place till January 1955. Incidently, the RAF also had the same problems as you with the aircraft tipping on its tail! To counteract this they fitted a device called an "Elephant's Foot" which was fitted under the centre of the fuselage just forward of the clamshell doors when loading heavy items to prevent the aircraft from tipping back.
  2. before painting, having laid the masking tape down, spray or brush a thin layer of varnish along the edges of the tape...............seals the gap and creates a barrier to stop paint creeping under the tape Happy New Year
  3. Having built many.many resin kits, mainly 1/24 KFS and 1/35 Accurate Armour, manufacturers are aware of these "faults" and tend to warn you about these difficulties in the instructions. They offer a solution, superglue and a needle, just apply the glue to the hole and after its dried, sand it down...............problem solved, for the really BIG holes I add Baking powder to the superglue(after applying it the model, its just like a puddle, drop the powder into the puddle, you can use Talculm powder which has finer granules, Bicarb of soda also can be added to the glue, depends on your preference. I used superglue and baking powder a lot when building the Airfix Vulcan, came in handy when overscribing and moving panel lines on the wings and body. I tend to use this filler now in preference to other well known "putties" as this mix is just as good, it is an instantantious filler, goes off within micro seconds of apply powder and soda and does not shrink. Happy New Year
  4. A member of this site posted a number of videos on Youtube of helpful tips and advice, heres his take on canopy s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9PPYEbwPRU
  5. I have always used the washed out tops from disposable Milk bottle containers...…..I have about a 100 now, used once and thrown away...………...for my airbrush I use small plastic medicinal cups from ebay
  6. I have always used the good old Airfix way? A couple of concealed staples, even better if its the top run and behind skirts or bottom beneath a road wheel.
  7. I thought the thread was titled "1/48 - Blackburn Buccaneer" How does an F101 appear anything like a Buccaneer? Please try and avoid thread drift or - start a new thread on the F101
  8. Just had exactly the same message pop up on my Bitdefender and like clive, ignored it...…….
  9. I was trying to ovoid putting a name to the company Nigel, but, you hit the nail right on the head......at the end of the session there was a queue to buy lots of his accessories for airbrushes plus a lot of Stynylrez primer
  10. I and about 6 others, did a similar course as Nigel, but mine was with a company in Leicestershire and really feel that I learnt more from YouTube and still continue to do, than what I did from the course...………….could have saved a lot of money
  11. nearly all the "Carry on" films are available for watching on YouTube.
  12. Tamiya Mk 5 Chieftain is more near a Mark 3 than a Mark 5...….fair bit of work to bring it upto Mark 5 standard, but, here are the mods that you need to carry them out to bring it upto mark 5 standard:- http://www.onepointed.com/dan/model/ChieftainTweaks/ Be aware that the rubber perishes(or shrinks) I built this kit over 15 years ago, already road wheel tyres are splitting, hub caps cracked and tracks splitting, same with rubber tyres on my Tamiya LRDG Chevrolet Tyres split in half...……….purchased resin replacements.
  13. £47.74 plus free postage https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sword-1-48-Gloster-Meteor-NF-14-48011/333574814767?hash=item4daa9bbc2f:g:PiMAAOSw1ZJelZX9
  14. I always use superglue with a pin...……………….if parts or holes are big, add baking Powder or Bicarb of soda...…...been making Accurate Armour and KFS kits for years now and never failed me
  15. That makes two of us...……...I bought 3 cassettes of drills, some were broke and others blunt...…………..3 to.5 being the main culprits, but the bigger they got, the more blunt they became - and that's on plastic .6 to 1.6 lucky to find a sharp one...………….as mentioned earlier...….go for quality and not quantity...……if it sounds to good to be a true, it probably is.
  16. This video of SAFE airways maybe of interest to somebody building Australian Freighter: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roQOcqAlY5M
  17. difficult to see images with watermark splashed all over them - but keep up the good work...……..I have one in the stash and will be following closely
  18. This from an airline pilot helps explain what and why things are still flying(adverts to 2:44 so skip the first minute or so:- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5HNUjVEPyQ
  19. I have noted in the past that the NEW paint is more of a sludge than a liquid and when I open the lid there is no room inside for air...they fill them well above the rim...……..in fact when taking the lid from the tin the sludge is like treacle on the lid.....no room for air in there at all - I binned this paint as there is not even room to stir it in the pot......need a knife to get contents out of tin. I have found as stupid as I am, sometime I do not push the lid on as tight as it could be resulting in the contents inside the tin to go solid...…..I always physically brush thinners on the base of the lid and clean whole lid spotless with rag before re-applying to tin, always works, and once closed always shake tin to seal any gaps that may still be around base of lid
  20. Never happened to me in 60 years...……..perhaps its something to do with the new formulae ………..are they new paints?
  21. Photobucket logo destroys half the photo as well
  22. Like Dave...…….I recently came back from 2-3 trips to the tip...……….took a lot of magazines to the tip...……..I decided anything over 3 years old and anything not read in the past 3 years had to go(apart from my books and reference library)However I did hold back on Airfix Model World...…….I do like the format of the builds and content and love there photography. Scale Aircraft Modeller went as did Fine Scale Modeller, used to buy the IPMS mag, but just doesn't have much content relevant to me to justify a purchase these days you name it.....they all went...…...not into digital mags...………I found when researching items in these mags, that the articles have all become dated and no longer relevant...….someone, somewhere has recently bought the article upto date or as so often happens, I can find it very easily on the Internet...……..couldn't be bothered to sell them on Ebay as that site is awash with old magazines. Currently only one magazine worthy of buying(not subscribing) that's Airfix Model World...………..I browse in Smiths and if its relevant for me then, I buy it. I think Jon above speaks for me as everything he said I concur with, same reasons I stopped buying ALL the magazines above
