  1. I wonder if anyone has ever built 22,000 models of the Spitfire. Surely it's the only way to include every detail change?
  2. Just my observations from building the low back version are that I found the plastic didn't really react very well to Humbrol liquid cement and several sub-sections either fell apart after glueing and the entire wing structure dropped off the fuselage. Copious amounts of glue seemed to be required to get parts to adhere although I found Tamiya liquid cement worked better. As others have said, the fit isn't great and although included in the instruction leaflet there was no part for the small strengthening structure behind the pilot's headrest.
  3. Terrific. I hope mine turns out as well as this (spoiler alert, it won't).
  4. I seem to remember Sword did similar with their Lightnings. Snipped off the witches hat fin and rudder in the F3 and T5 boxing and vice versa for the F1A/F2 an T4. Seems a pointless exercise to me.
  5. That looks great especially considering the age of the kit. A very interesting scheme which I have not come across before. At first I assumed she was a post-War Canadian bird. Amazing the aircraft survived for so long. Presumably she was scrapped in the end. A pity.
  6. Very nice. I love this scheme on a Spitfire and have built it myself by converting the Airfix Mk.XIX with the Alley Cat resin set. Seeing your model definitely inspires me to get an AZ kit, however.
  7. A great looking model. I've just completed their Bristol M1.C. Not the easiest kits of but certainly not the worst. I think the type looks like something out of Noddy.
  8. A wonderful rendition of a very characterful aeroplane. I think I'm going to have to have one based on your model. Valor are producing some of my favourite subjects these days.
  9. Whatever the issues with the kit you've created a beautiful model. The Scimitar looks even more sleek 'in flight'. Odd that Contrail should miss the area ruling as its a major feature of the real thing.
  10. Exciting times. I hope they film it and post on You Tube. It looks beautiful in that scheme as well.
  11. Does anyone have an idea of when the Tempest II is due to fly?
  12. Ha! The Wellington is at the same stage as the one I'm building.
  13. The 3 in 1 option would certainly solve the conundrum of which one to buy!
  14. The Xtrakit mk XII had a very Sword-ish feel to it so I assumed they made the moulds. If so they'd definitely benefit from releasing it under their own label.
  15. Thanks and sorry for the late response. Maybe the window arrangements depended on which factory the aircraft came from. I did purchase the Warpaint title which does gave a pic of the aircraft in question and, although it's not absolutely confirmed it foes spoeat to show the port side window in place but painted over. The unit markings are, indeed, positioned to be clear of the window whereas on the starboard side they are not. Thus, I will finish the kit with windows fitted but painted over, no guns, and with the markings as illustrated in the kit's instructions.
  16. For me the biggest restrictions on research are when museums, in their wisdom, decide to suspend airframes from ceilings, thus seriously reducing one's ability to view them. I understand that space can be an issue with some museums such as the Science Museum and IWM in London and both have raised galleries to view exhibits more clearly, to their credit, but others, or should I say ONE other doesn't have this excuse. I don't really understand this policy. The aircraft don't look like they are flying. They look like they are suspended from the ceiling.
  17. Agreed. They are desposing of their Argosy and Varsity for some reason. I can't see the Argosy surviving this purge and might go the same way as the Beverley did all those years ago. The museum doesn't seem to value airframes like this. Maybe they consider them too obscure but surely, as the clue is in the name, these are EXACTLY the sorts of airframes the RAF Museum should be safeguarding. As museums go I much prefer the FAA museum, which is in my neighbourhood, and Duxford - which is, alas, quite a schlep from where I live.
  18. Would love to see one. This is an odd museum, though, as it doesn't allow ANY photography on site for 'copyright reasons', surely a unique feature in a British museum.
