  1. Great work (and quick). They look fantastic. I think I'll be acquiring a whole FTS of these. 2-seat Vampires have always rather appealed to me for some reason. I hope someone like Xtradecal do a sheet soon. Especially covering RAF, RN and Commonwealth schemes. I think Airfix are to be congratulated on this choice. Looking forward to the Lightning. Regards, Tim
  2. Very nice indeed. Can you tell me, was this a vacform or resin. I'd really like one but vacforms give me the heebeejeebies. Regards, Tim
  3. I'm equally mystified as to why Airfix didn't release a B2 or B6 in 1/72, for all the reasons you've quoted. I heard somewhere, possibly here, that when the R&D chaps at Airfix were questioned about it at a show they said they didn't want to flood the market. Quite honestly, considering the amount of the type that were built and the different sub-marks that were developed together with the amount of countries that operated it I think the Canberra bomber has to be one of the most underrepresented aircraft in kit form ever.
  4. Thanks Geoff. Very interesting. I could use some of the chaps in whites and pretend it's Hal Far too.
  5. It's a fab list isn't it? Can't wait for the Lightning and Vampire. I hope they will downscale the Javelin one day (and the Sea Vixen) and one day give us a new Victor.
  6. I believe the Darymple and Verdun book on said type has some good manufacturer's engineering drawings. i don't have it to hand but I would imagine there are some of the radome.
  7. Happy New Year to you all. I was wondering if anyone could provide a good source of 1/72nd scale FAA figures from the 1950s/60s period. I am thinking of creating a diorama for my FAA collection. It will be a bit of a fantasy scene as it will include aircraft from Seafires to Buccaneers and the location will be somewhat ambiguous as it will have aircraft from Yeovilton, Culdrose, Lossie, Ford etc. Ground vehicles and equipment are sort of provided for more or less, but figures are a little more difficult to come by. Many of Airfix's ground crew sets could be converted I suppose but a lot of them are in sort of 'action' poses and not very realistic. Most photo references I've have seem to involve quite a lot of standing around! Any help gratefully received. I hope everyone has a great year's modelling. Best wishes, Tim.
  8. Very nice indeed. I got one from ebay and it was missing some parts, annoyingly, so I got the Aeroclub MR2/AEW2 conversion. Not looking forward to removing all those rivets though.
  9. That's exactly sixteen more models than I've completed this year.
  10. Thanks everyone for your help on this topic. Pretty much answered all my questions. All the best, T.
  11. Very nice indeed. Got to get myself one of these. Great to think that practically every mark of Spitfire and Seafire is now readily available.
  12. I think my Dad took me to that show. I don't remember the Skyhawk but I have three big memories. The first was how incredibly loud the German F-104Gs were, the second was being allowed in the back of a Canadian Hercules and the third was that the heavens well and truly opened and we had to leg it under a Vulcan (easily the best option there for staying out of the rain).
  13. Once again another great and comprehensive posting. Thanks for going to all the trouble. I haven't seen the later scheme before so will look it up. Cheers, Tim
  14. Point taken. US aircraft aren't my strong point.
  15. As Airfix are in my good books, chiefly for the Valiant (my personal modelling Holy Grail) and the Spitfire 22, I reckon I'll be getting the A4B anyway. I usually build to the theme 'Britain and Commonwealth' but I have a smattering of NATO aircraft pre about 1970 and , although I clearly don't know much about Skyhawks, I've always thought it was a pretty nifty aircraft.
  16. P.S. Do you know of a good decal sheet for RNZAF A4s? Ha ha. Mel Brooks is a genius.
  17. Thanks for the link. Now I want a Kiwi A4 as well!! Really nice colour schemes over the years. It will sit nicely with my 14 Sqd Strikemaster.
  18. Thanks for the comprehensive answer Steve. It sounds like the F/G was almost a completely new design apart from the wings. Anyway as I like modelling to be fun I don't think I'll be attempting to convert the Airfix B to a G!! I think I'll go for the Fujimi kit as the Esci one is probably difficult to find these days, although it's amazing what you can find on ebay. Do you know if there was a typical load for the RAN's Skyhawks when operating from Melbourne or did it vary from mission to mission? I happen to have a few sidewinders lying around left over from various Revell Hunters. Also, I'm assuming that the paints used were Federal standard rather than locally mixed.
  19. Thanks for the info and nice build.
  20. Thanks XV. Looks like the Airfix kit is a non-starter then. Especially with my limited skills! I seem to remember the sheet mentions the wrong shape of the fin on the Hasegawa kit. Can't say I'd be looking forward to masking the fin checks. Presumably the Fujimi kit is still in production. I wonder whether the hump is a separate part.
  21. Certainly the two films I've seen show Aussie A4s sans hump. To my untrained eye the approach speed looks mighty fast for a carrier bird compared to, say, a Sea Vixen and on a carrier as small as Melbourne perhaps the additional weight of the hump would have made landings prohibitive. then again maybe I don't know what I'm talking about!
