Looking good so far, I really must try some frulis for a build soon. Silly question about the missing rollers but do you actually need them? I only ask because they won't be seen if you fit the skirts will they....we will all know but we'll keep quiet....

Nice job Phil - I know exactly what you mean about a young'un slowing down your modelling progress... don't think I've recovered yet and mine's five now! belated congratulations too
Thanks Mike, I'm getting more time at the bench than I expected, I get an hour or 2 once he goes to sleep in the evening, but I feel it will probably reduce as he gets older! I'll have to make do with building up the stash instead...

Looks fantastic.
But my inner Artillery man is coming out, there's a little more equipment husbandry with the ammo, they would be placed on a poncho.

Funny you should say that as I assumed it would be bad practice to leave live ammo lying around in the sand, even at war. Having zero knowledge about proper practice however I thought it best to leave it and let someone in the know correct me. Might have to have a go at making a poncho or 2 now....

Love it! The weathering is excellent. The chipping on the barrel, the carbon on the muzzle, the chipping around the cupolas and the staining, it all looks great.
Thanks! One of the other reasons I neglected the WIP thread was that I got 'lost' in the weathering process, I really enjoyed trying out a few new things. The few pictures I did find showed that the temporary sand finish was very temporary indeed, especially on the barrel! Not suprising I guess with the heat of firing on top of the desert sun

Sorry to anyone who was really engrossed in this thread but my updates ran dry, time at the bench is limited so taking photos took a back seat! On the plus side I did mange to finish the gun, RFI is here:

Good evening all,
This is my latest finished build, I now firmly have the AFV bug, this is also my first finished project since my little boy came along, so it's been a bit slower than my normal pace, I think I might have it get used to not getting time at the bench...
I did start a WIP thread, but due to the arrival my updates petered out
The base kit is the not too bad Trumpeter kit, with the addition of some Eduard etch, Bison decals, metal barrel, and various accurate Armour add ons. I also made my own stowage covered in a tarp and the air recognition sheet, made to cover some over zealous chipping on the roof...
Overall I'm pretty pleased with this one, there aren't many pictures available of them in service so I used a fair bit of 'artistic license' for the weathering.
I finished the gun with the Ammo by Mig Jimminez paints, mainly the British Army sand colour which I think is a decent match. I also used various weathering products from AK and Ammo.
The base is just a cheap frame with sand and a few small stones applied and then painted.
The accurate armour ammo load set is just strewn about currently so I can play with it until I'm happy that it looks good.
On to the pics, which aren't the best as I'm still to set up a 'proper' studio.

You can get a pretty decent results with a brush or small but of sponge, just take it steady as it's easy to over do it!
To clarify my points above I use Acrylic paints for base coat and enamel for a filter, that way you don't need to add a protective varnish coat between. If you paint with enamels the. You will have to use an acrylic varnish first.

Nice start!
To add to what's already been said if I was building this model I would do the following steps in this order:
Add chipping with a fine brush or sponge now
Add a filter to bring it together (you don't need to do this step if you don't want to it's your model, this is just what I would do at this stage)
Add a gloss coat
Apply any decals
Seal decals with gloss
Apply wash
Seal with a satin varnish coat
Complete Assembly
Apply final weathering
Stand back and admire work!

Since I'm chasing an A version which seem to be very hard to get now , This version was interesting but I felt dismayed by the fact of its cost for a basic kit and their opportunism to sell basic separate upgrades which jack up an already comparatively expensive kit !Does anyone know where I can get a Dragon A version ??

I feel your pain, the wife was working night shifts on and off, it's not that conducive to a 'normal' life, mind you I got more modeling done...
I think Mig have cracked the colour personally.

Like buses another update comes along!
Last night the barrel got the chipping treatment
Mig NATO green undercoat, plus AK chipping fluid
Sand top coat
Once sand was dry I went at it with a stiff brush and water. The pictures I have found seem to show the barrel chipped heavily, I would assume the heat from firing caused the temporary finish to peel quite quickly.
In-between coats on the barrel I attacked the hull with a sponge and fine brush
And the turret, think I might have over done the top, tried to replicate wear to the area the crew would walk around on between the hatches and stowage...
I have an idea how I can cover it if the weathering doesn't improve the look...
After-all that I also added a filter to the whole thing. Once that's fully dried I'll add a gloss coat in preparation for decals and detail washes.

More progress to share
Before we had a long weekend for the bank holiday I managed to get it primed
I used Vallejo primer, which the money conscious new father part of me wants to use up but the perfectionist modellers side screams 'BIN IT, ITS AWFUL!'.
After a bit of a break I got the base coat on yesterday and added some basic highlights, not sure how we'll it shows up on the pictures, which hopefully means it's nice a subtle..
Base colour was the Mig paint, which I had a few issues spraying, not sure if that was due to the primer coat, the moisture in the air or the fact I was using a cheapo Chinese copy airbrush or the paint...the highlights were done with lifecolor BS light stone, apparently the same colour as the Mig paint but in reality a good few shades lighter! That actually works to my advantage in this case as it's ready made faded paint. For what it's worth I think the Mig paint is spot on colour wise compared to ref pics of vehicles in theatre.
Next up is some detail painting and chipping before a first filter. The boy seems to be in a bit of a routine now and I can get an hour or so an evening modelling done, if I can keep my eyes open..

This kit seems to be on a bit of a renascence on britmodeller! These builds are making me quite keen to get one myself now!! The etch and those barrels bring it right up to date.

CA shouldn't melt the film, it might cloud it though. I use either gloss varnish, Klear or otherwise, or PVA glue or one of the other clear drying modelling glues, which I'm sure are just PVA in a small tub for twice the price of a large bottle....

You could try one of the cheap Chinese copy's that are abundant on eBay. I got a couple with my compressor and the one I still have is working ok for primer etc. I'm not sure the seals would take anything too aggressive solvent wise mind..
