I found the pic via google in an old thread on here! Should have book marked it as can't find it again now typical!
It's a Fujimi AV8A, picked it up for £7.50 at IPMS show in Birmingham the other week. There were 2 on the stall wish I bought both!! It's got real nice crisp detail. I can't comment on the shape accuracy as I'm no expert but it look like a harrier!
Next question, is the interior of the GR1 admiralty Grey as per other harriers?
Thanks

Oh they'll be plenty of dumb questions don't you worry!
Incidently I forgot to mention the scheme I'm going for! I was thinking of doing XV787 when it was stationed in Belize. The decals are availbe for it. I've seen a picture of a GR1 sporting a sharks mouth apparently from Belize as well and apparently the same aircraft, but you can't see the serial in the pic to confirm. Anyone help me out on that front? The decals don't cone with a sharks mouth but they do have one for a Spanish AV8A which I could use...

Hi all,
I hope it's still ok to join in?
I'm going with this:

As a GR1,
Which is lucky as the kit decals look like this:

Guess they got wet at some point...
Sprue Shots

White metal seat

Not the best photo! I've also got a resin one so I'll see which looks best.
Hopefullt these will be useful!

I hope to make good progress as I have the week off work now and my girlfirend doesn't!
This is my first group build so be gentle, plus I expect I'll have lots of questions!!

Sounds like the starter kit I got, or very similar.
One piece of advice, go for a compressor with a tank. Not much more expensive but I regret not getting one!
The airbrushes aren't the best, I knackered both of mine after a few weeks, combination of no instructions and not having a clue what to do with them! I since watched loads of videos on you tube and know where I went wrong!

I've got a pilot from a hasegawa jag that would probably do the job. He has one arm posable. Drop me a PM

Alun,
Unless you've used them the LGB on the RAF spru from the tornado I sent you should be the ones you want!

It comes in rattle cans, which I recently for the first time. I think they are fantastic, but it's not cheap and mine came from far east and being a spray can had to be shipped by sea!
-
Very nice!
Got a couple to make my self hope they come out even half that good!

The part you've got in the kit is the (name completely escapes me at this time in AM!) which is fitted to the GR1 as standard. The FLIR is part of the upgrade to a GR4 fit and you would need one as well. The linescan is only fitted to the recce versions.
Incidently the Hindenburg tanks were carried by GR1s noteably during the first gulf war so that could be an option.
I have some reference material I could send you if you like? Drop me PM

I use micro sol to soften them, then I tend just to spray varnish over the whole kit after to finish.
There is an alternative to clear which I use call quickshine, it's available from lakelands.
You can get micro sol from eBay to avoid buying a kit from hannants, that is assuming you want to avoid buying one!

Yeah that's a great tip! I always kick my self after I read these things!
Incidently I found electrical insulation tape was good for a straight edge
-
I'll second Quick shine I've used it recently to de-fog a couple of canopies, not as bad as yours but not very clear, and it worked a treat!
-
I've done a couple of all black jets now and I always use Vallejo Model air black, give fantastic coverage and is pre thinned so no faff! You could get a bottle and try another coat over the top.

Try their website, there's a very good chart on there, at least there is for model air...
-
Steve,
I wish I had the room for 1/32! I was after 1/72 ideally, if I can find any decals I may do it for the GB as well, but I've got plenty to choose from if not!
Thanks

Having learnt the hard way, knackering a couple of Airbrushes (only cheapo copies from eBay fortunately), I'll pass on my limited experience!
I followed the procedure on the DVD that came with my H&S and first, filled the cup with water and then tip away the excess pain water mix. I then blast through a cup full of water to clear. Then I back flush, I find with my AB I can just hold a bit of tissue over the front, needle guard still fitted, and that works. You'll know you're doing it right as you get bubbles in the paint cup!
Then it depends what I'm doing next, if it's another colour I tend not to disassemble I just blast through some airbrush cleaner and water until it's clear, I use a cotton bud or tissue to get any residue off. If I'm done, or it's contrasting colours eg black then white I strip down and clean. I
I've found that certain colours need more cleaning than others too, guess that's just experience.
I use Vallejo mainly, I tend to use model air though which is pre thinned!
Hope that helps!

Does anyone know if the decals for the black TTTE GR1 are available anywhere, other than in the hasegawa boxing of the kit?
Thanks

Put me down for a couple of THERMA when they're done!

I didn't rate the Vallejo metalics, I found they blocked my Airbrush all the time, not tried the copper or brass though.
Citadel metallic are highly rated, I've so far only tried chain mail but it was a lot better than the Vallejo, not sure if they do copper or brass though!
Hope that helps!

This is looking fantastic!
Where did you find the info for the TIALD pylon? I need to make one in 1/48 and I'm struggling for references!

I did exactly the same as you, bought that set, except I got it from eBay, and it was ok, got me hooked on airbrushing!
I would offer 2 bits of advice, from one newbie to another (save you from my mistakes!!).
Look for a similar deal, but for a compressor with a tank, I'm still kicking my self for not paying the extra £15 for a tank. I don't think they're essential but sometimes I have pressure issues if I'm spraying larger areas.
The airbrush isn't much cop, mine stopped working after a few weeks. Having said that I had no idea what I was doing when it came to cleaning and stripping/rebuilding. I would suggest ask for more advice here or look for videos on YouTube before you jump straight in and use it. I guess it's best to make mistakes with a cheap AB first though, and the compressor is worth the money by itself in my opinion.
I now have a great H&S I bought from little cars and I love it!
Hope my experience helps!

I asked the same question about a month back, got the same answer, use water, tried it and I would recommend it! Great stuff and sprayed nicely!

Mine arrived couple of days ago and they are excellent!
Many thanks

That's the one! Thanks for finding it!
I'll order the decals and hope someone confirms what I found rather than telling me I'm wrong!
Hope to make some progress today!
As I said I've got the week off but I'm dog sitting a six month old Labrador so I think long walks are on the cards so hopefully he'll sleep rather than trying to 'help'.
