  1. I think that lack of fit issue is because I used the Brassin cockpit not the kit parts. It was mentioned during the STGB that it was likely caused by the fit of the plastic cockpit parts...
  2. Thanks gents, I nearly forgot how good his kit was to build! Speaking of which... Filler added on the airbrakes, the only place I need any! I've maybe been a touch heavy handed but there's not too much fine detail I that area to risk! Next up is the Fiddly bits which always take the time.... As far as the airbrakes go I can only assume it's one of those decisions where you can't please everyone, if they did them as separate parts they'd be a pain to get to fit closed! Maybe they could have come up with some sort of insert arrangement like the rear one but I'll forgive them that given how nice the rest of the kit is! Phil
  3. I'd better crack on and make an update as I'm getting left behind here!! First thing I did was cut out the forward airbrakes, not something I relished as I didn't want to wreck all the lovely detail! Chain drilled Cut out and cleaned up looks ok... Not too bad with the inserts fitted, will need some filler though...shouldn't look too bad as I'm only going to open the airbrakes slightly, as they tend to droop open on the ground. After that I moved on to the pit. I have to say the detail on the Eduard Brassin cockpit is supurb. I used the Mr Paint for the interior colour. I can't say how accurate a colour match it is, but it's close to the Eduard etc and it sprays very nicely, it did require a couple if coats though, over a white base. The best bit about this pit is the small PE parts that save on some tricky detail painting. I went for the PE IP option as well as I could never get a finish as neat as that offers! I've since built up most if the airframe, with no dramas at all! I'll update again later with a snap of that. Thanks for looking in Phil
  4. Thanks, that backs up what the decal guide I have shows, ie rounded sides. I'm slowly learning not to trust anything other than photos though! Phil
  5. Very nice! My Granddad was a navigator on Warwicks during the war, dropping life boats just like this one! I did have his log book tucked away, along with the contrail kit, however when I went to uni my mum took the kit to a charity shop!!! Someone got a bargain there I'm sure....
  6. Good morning BMers, I'm hoping someone out there can shed some light on the different front canopy side windscreen shape and it's cut in date. I'm specifically building an Algerian MF from early 70s time frame and pictures are few and far between! Does anyone know if the MF exclusively used the rounded or square or if they changed after a given date? Or is it just a lottery?? Thanks Phil
  7. A very interesting subject, I have to admit I started this kit but then have up as the fit was pretty shocking, at least mine was, the wings especially but I think they are warped!
  8. I use this one, while more expensive than the ones with replaceable cartridges I found the straps on the replaceable perish after a while and you have to replace the lot anyway! http://m.screwfix.com/p/3m-4251-maintenance-free-organic-vapour-particulate-respirator-p2/13038
  9. There's loads of how to videos on you tube, well worth a watch!
  10. I've been looking at these kits just now, as I'm Getting a taste for AFV..keen to see how you get on and what the kit is like! Are you going to add anything? Figures or a base or is it just the kit? Phil
  11. Like wise Tom sorry to hear that, I hope you're getting back to normal and it all starts going well for you again soon!
  12. It's Mr Cooper when you answer my questions that quickly and fully!! Thanks Tom any help is much appreciated, with all the 'extras' it won't be a quick build I'm sure...
  13. After my other build has stalled I've been thinking of another possible entry and this is it! I've had Eduard's Mig-21MF in the stash for ages, in the weekend guise, I've picked up a bunch of after market bits to throw at it, not that all are really necessary but then we are modellers.... So here's the kits All still bagged Some extras Plus..... That's the Brassin cockpit and wheel bay set, both of with I've previously fondled and removed the casting block from, I'm pretty sure that won't encroach on the 25% rule... For decals I'll be using the RV set, which has a rather nice Algerian MF forum the Yom Kippur war, based in Egypt wearing the Egyptian 'Nile Valley' scheme. Now I'm hoping this scheme is accurate as I know some on the RV sheet aren't...Mr Copper?..... Off to make a start right away! Phil
  14. Right don't not put me down for Algeria then!
  15. I did think that might be the case!! Algeria hasn't gone yet right?...
  16. I'm struggling a little with my current entry as the kit isn't quite correct for the subject! I have a back up plan, which I might do anyway, but in the mean time would the United Arab Republic Airforce qualify as a seperate airforce? If so can I dibs that please??
  17. The FL is closer to the PF, with the forward hinged canopy but with the parabrake on the base of the fin. I'm still hoping eduard bring one out in 1/48, should be doable with some sprue mixing from existing tooling I think..
  18. Thanks, Eduard have announced a range of 1/72 Mig-21 towards the end of this year or maybe next, given the number of different schemes I like I might downsize... Phil
  19. Thanks chaps, it is a kit that's worth building! It's not quite as nice as the Eduard Migs I have to say but still a good kit. I got the J-7B version for Christmas and I think I'll probably pick up another to build as a J-7A, unless Eduard bring one out...
  20. Good evening all, Here's my first finished for 2015, although most of the building happened last year! This is the trumpeter kit, which is actually pretty decent. I did add a Neomega cockpit, which fits like a glove and is lovely. For some reason I then closed the canopy though so you can't see much....also used a master pitot, which was less Fiddly to build than I was expecting! Eduard wheels rounded off the extras as I don't much like the rubber ones in the kit. The camo is a bit different for an Egyptian Mig, it caught my eye from a profile Tom Coopers Arab Migs range of books, well worth the investment if you have an interest in Arab airforces. It's finished in aircraft grey green blotches (AKAN) on a dark green (Tamiya) over light admiralty grey/ Russian light blue (Zero colour match). The decals were from an old sheet in the spares, which weren't the best. Weathering with oils and pigments for the sand. The pictures aren't the best as they were taken with my iPad but I hope they show it off ok! Here's one with the FL I built last year, I was surprised how much smaller the F-13 was in comparison, although the picture doesn't capture that too well... Thanks for looking comments and criticism welcome. Phil
  21. Welcome Tom! Ah ok that's put a slight spanner in the works... I'll have to have a think what to do now... Mozambique isn't taken so maybe I could switch...I still like the idea of an abandonded jet though... Phil
