  1. The only real downside the the etching primers is that they tend to be cellulose based and hence are a bit nasty. Plus of course if you've purchased the vallejo primer you might not want to waste it...

  2. I can't see why it would have to be Klear and not one of the other acrylic gloss varnishes, such as Quickshine or Alclad Aqua gloss. I would assume that it is the dilution with the varnish that leads to the ability to sand rather than something specifically only in Klear. That said I've not tried it so I'm only speculating...

  3. It does look a touch light BUT in my experience tamiya paints do darken up a lot under varnish coats. If you're feeling brave you could try over spraying a dark filter coat...

As for the canopy the mould line does sand out fairly easily, at least the one on my Su-27 did, try micromesh or one of those multi grade polishing sticks then finish with a polish compound, toothpaste apparently works for this!! Don't start with too harsh a grade though, say 240 or 400 a medium grade.

  4. Hello all,

Hopefully someone with more experience in such things than me can shed some light on the best source for 'kit' to hang on the side of British Armour from the cold war period, most notably the Falklands and the Balkans.

So far I've stumbled across the obvious sets from accurate Armour

    http://www.accurate-armour.com/ShowProduct.cfm?manufacturer=0&category=4&subcategory=104&product=346

But I'm not an expert on such things so I don't know what periods they are suitable for.

I also came across the Black Dog sets:

    Obviously the rifles are different...

Any other suggestions sources of suitable stowage, water or fuel cans, ammo boxes etc will gratefully be received too!

    Thanks in advance

    Phil

  5. Interesting, I saw this set had been released, would make an interesting subject for a dio.

Look forward to watching your progress.

For the laptop how about just paint the 'blue screen of death'...

  6. As the others have alluded to, it'll either be the clear coat was too thin, in corners maybe, or hadn't fully cured, 24 hours is normally ok at room temperature. Equally the first application of thinners could have softened the gloss and it hadn't re-cured by the second. The other option is the thinners you use is too 'hot' I personally use low odour thinners from windsor and Newton with oils and it works ok.

  7. I've got their russian turquoise cockpit colour and it's not bad, pretty much like Mr Color, but thinned ready to go. The solvents are stronger than mr levelling thinner though, DO NOT spray directly on to plastic, I can confirm it will damage the surface! If you've tried the Zero range of paints then that's the closest to them I can think of.

  8. Thank you for that, that's a great help, I'll have a proper look at those links at home later. I've also corrected my initial post to remove the slightly embarrassing typo which I'll blame on my iPhones autocorrect....

  9. Good morning all,

As the title says really did the cromwell have aerials on the mounts on the turret? Pictures seem to show yes and no, I guess some B&W ones might be too low res to tell. I've seen models with them and museum ones without, both of which might not be the most accurate source of info....

    Thanks

    Phil
