  1. Looking for a change from aircraft and toying with doing a 88mm AA gun with searchlight and Telemeter. As far as I can see, only AFV do a searchlight, SW-36 with Sd.Ah.51 trailer, Bronco do the Telemeter KDO Mod.40 with Sd.Anh.52 trailer. Is there anything to know regarding the build up of these kits? Also, which is the best 88mm kit to go with these? TIA Chris
  2. Unfortunately one of the photos show a head on view and the other one is a side view of the nose, so I cannot compare the red with the roundel. It looks like a 'I'll paint them a red and somebody has to prove it's the wrong shade' moment.
  3. Looking for the answer to a colour question regarding the spinners of 235sq Mosquito's at Banff in 1945. According to the Xtradecals instructions they give them as roundel red but show them as a brighter red than WWII roundel red. I have seen 2 colour photos of Max Aitken's a/c (MA-01) when in charge of the squadron. They seem to have been slightly colourised as one shows a bright glossy red and the other shows a slightly darker red. Both photos are of the same a/c and taken at around the same time. Any help would be most welcome. TIA
  4. Looking to change to acrylics from enamels but the only brands I can get locally are Humbrol and Tamiya. Have tried Humbrol and the less said about them the better. So how does the Tamiya mix, as given in their instructions, stack up against the grey/green as used in WWII RAF cockpits? TIA
  5. Have just bought 3 1:1 scale resin kits of the spade grip and gun sights as used on early Spitfires. As the colour needed for the items is mostly black, I was thinking is it a normal black or would it be night. I know there is very little difference between the 2 colours but as they are 1:1, I'm looking for the correct shade. TIA
  6. I know all about the primers, I use them myself just that I never gave a thought to the colours.
  7. Thats one I never gave a thought to. Thanks
  8. Looking for a good aluminium and brass paint. Have tried the Humbrol metalcote aluminium (27001) and found it very grainy like a metallic finish. This type of finish is not what I need. I need a totally flat finish. We have a war-games outlet in the town centre and wondered if the Citadel paint was any good. Tamiya and Humbrol is the only other paints available locally. TIA
  9. Would it be standard practice to strip the armament and gun sight out of a war weary aircraft that was going to be used as a squadron hack? My intention is to do a build of a USAAF Spitfire that was kept by the squadron after re-equiping with the P-51B. TIA
  10. Just remember this. Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Ok I'll get my
  11. 17 seconds in and it's been primed. Wonder how many cans of Halfords primer they used?
  12. If you are talking about the wing upper surface they are not strengthening strips, they were sealing strips over the leading edge to wing joints. The rear ones were for the also sealing strips. In the past, I have done these by masking off the strips from the wing surface and building them up with a few coats of primer to give a slightly raised area. This means there is no blending in needed.
  13. That's what people love about Edgar. Only he could come out with that bit of information.
  14. Which tyres and wheels would the Burma based Mk.VIII's be fitted with. 5 slot wheels or 4 slot with possibly Z block tyres? TIA
  15. But not half the fun as converting the Revell kit
  16. Recently got hold of the Revell 1:32 Hurricane. This I want to turn into an early rag wing Mk.I, no ventral fin, smaller rudder, venturi and early exhausts etc. Can anybody recommend any books/mags that cover these items. TIA
  17. I've also bought the Airscale bits, Barracuda intake, Master barrels and Radu's mesh. As well as though's, I will have a look at the HGW seat harness, Brassin wheels and Eduard etch interior. I agree that the cannon ammo does look well, be nice if that was sold separately
  18. I think at that price that's one I'll pass on.
  19. Sweet looking pony. Makes a welcome change from the usual silver a/c
  20. Paul, Jonners Thanks for the advice. Looking deeper into the 2 that I mentioned, then I think the Evo Silverline 2in1 would be the one to go with. Chris
  21. After years of using Badger airbrushes, I'm now wanting to upgrade. After doing a bit of research, H & S seems to be the choice but which one? Evolution or Infinity Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
