All (some) "politics" aside, why is it assumed that the RAF would operate any new aircraft that are in a maritime area? Is it just because they used to? Is it because they fly things with wings? RAF used to operate Merlins, they don't now/ or soon won't, so the idea of Inter-service role change isn't a new one. (Not meant to wind anyone up - am genuinely interested.)

1/700 Colombo Express (Revell)
rich2010 replied to camponubla's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
Whilst on the ferry back to Portsmouth one summer (massive Brittany Ferries type ferry) we sailed past one of these and it literally towered over us. Now the ferry was not too tiny either - staggeringly impressive. Are the kit containers separate? -
By the way, is there a word with more apostrophes? My kids can't get the hang of using one, let alone multiple amounts!

I had the same thoughts as you regarding the flightdeck, as I hate the double colour centreline decal Airfix gave us. I had the notion to mostly use the decal albeit cut up, white/ grey masked and some white decal strips - the jury is still out though...

Great vid - thanks for sharing.

Nice, but Thresher decal reads 'Tresher'. Wouldn't stop me buying one though!

I'm wondering what the tug is next to Lusty. I've been after a contemporary tug for a while now - any info on it at all?

I completely agree! I want to do a Bos UN 'blue beret' version, a Raspberry Ripple version, Gulf War heavily-weathered one and a Falklands greenie. And that's just off the top of my head.

Why any displeasure? At least three new tool kits (one of which has never been satisfactorily done - SK4), from a British company that has been through tough times and is now making great kits (Hawk, Dak, Lightning, Moth, etc...), that many people can afford. Just because it isn't a 1/xx BeaufightingShackleBucc that x amount of people jumped on the bandwagon and said that they really could not live without, doesn't mean that these ones are useless/ pointless/ unnecessary. I'll be truthful, and tell you that I'll probably buy two of the SKs - not the other two new'uns but that's just me, my opinion and my choice.

Sorry have I missed something? With all the laser stuff, isn't it implied that it's a new tool?

With your recent history, you're doing a great job of bluffing us all! Anyway, back of the queue, you've got one.

As this thread is in the rumour section, will it cease to exist in a puff of blue smoke when the actual announcement of a 1/350 QE carrier is broadcast?

Revell 1/200 Smit Frankrijk Harbour Tug
rich2010 replied to camponubla's topic in Work in Progress - Maritime
I love your Smit Frank. It looks great as it is. I've got the Fairplay as well and it looks like a good kit. -
Pesky work getting in the way of stuff. But I suppose if we did model stuff all the time it wouldn't be a hobby (oh to be a lottery winner).

I can only echo what all the above have said. Utterly inspiring. So realistic, the 'sea' sets it off fantastically.- 195 replies

Yes, I've read it too. Some good info in it. Also good is Dave Morgan's book: 'Hostile Skies'(?) it has some different photos (some taken by him) and other interesting aspects too.

Burden et al in Falklands Air War states that on the first raid against Stanley airport (the "I counted them out..." one) some a/c had 'toss-delivered' & 'delayed action retard bombs', later ones had CBUs. the toss-delivered ones were "VT" - but I'm not too sure what that means in this context. Hold it, glossary says variable timed. Presumably to create havoc at the time of the strike and some more havoc a bit later on. Doesn't mention anything about the guns, but the pics seem to suggest that they were fitted. In fact I don't recall ever seeing them not fitted with them or strakes - something about ground effect(?) in the hover(?). I am looking at a pic of an 801 Shar with 3 x 1000lb-ers, 2 x 100gal tanks and 2 x gun pods with holes in the end of each. I might be wrong, but was the wooden bung thing used by the GR3s when Blue Eric was fitted in the pod instead of the gun?

Airfix 1:72 BAC Lightning F.6 New Issue - A word of warning !
rich2010 replied to Tiger331's topic in Aircraft Cold War
I received the recently issued Airfix Dakota with no wing section sprues, but two sets of the fuselage sprues. Airfix said that they'd only supply enough to make one full kit (for free) which they did. But they didn't want the extras returned! So I paid a tenner for the extra bits - now I've got two sets for only a tenner extra. -
New Ship Related Releases
rich2010 replied to Chris Hewitt's topic in General Maritime modelling chat
Don't know about Trumpy being main candidate, as Airfix has (in conjunction with DaveCov) done a bit with the new carrier (plans, design, assistance). There's a thread about it on here somewhere. I'm almost definitely positively maybe certain (actually really hoping) that Airfix will release a 350th HMS QE.
