  1. Evening all. I have to say I'm having a brilliant time with this build. My usual scale (model building, not mine personally) is 1:48, but I am rediscovering the pleasure of building models of this size. Anyway, progress... Used the old "Pentel Correction fluid and Thinners" method to fill in the hairline gaps between the fuselage and the upper wing joint. Last look at the cockpit details before it disappears for ever under the canopy... Mr Rioja and I will get cracking this evening, then provide further updates later... Icarus
  2. This is superb Bjorn. Great detailing - simple but effective. Icarus
  3. Hi Geoff. Any progress on this? A very original subject - would be a fascinating build. Icarus
  4. Yep, it is a (not very round) roundel from the Union of Burma Air Force Mk IXe, circa 1954-55. Now that really would be a narrow interest Group Build... This little beauty is coming on fast. Cockpit and fuselage details before the latter was closed up: And the result after the fuselage was closed. At least I know what detail has gone into the cockpit! Nice detail in the posts above about future colour schemes for the PR XIX. I do agree that up until now, it has rather seemed that our Swedish friends actually only had one Spitfire on their inventory. Thanks for your helpful comments, Icarus
  5. Thanks. RLM 02 it is. If I can ever convince my son to give it back to me.. Icarus
  6. Thanks Troy. Given the battles I'm having making the Fujimi wing components fit, I think I'll leave the wheel bulges as they are. However, the trim tabs are easy to correct/replicate. I think a little thief has decided he has better use for the '109 than I.... Icarus
  7. A bit more progress. Painted the interior green, and have printed off a scale reproduction of the Spitfire instrument panel to represent this in the kit. With a closed canopy, should be enough: New Carpena decals have arrived. Yellow of roundels looks much better: Icarus
  8. Look what the postman brought... Time to get cracking. Icarus
  9. Mind the gap. The hazards of cross-kitting.... Should be fine with the help of Mr Surfacer 500. Icarus
  10. Morning all A bit of progress. Have installed the cockpit, instrument panel and new tailwheel, as well as PE radiator grills, in the starboard fuselage half. I tend to use tak to hold the pieces in place, and thick CA glue that sets quite slowly, so I can adjust the fit as the two fuselage halves are glued together I try to use a variety of referencing sources... Yes, that is a Bf 109G in FSX. Icarus
  11. Evening all. Whilst I'm waiting for the rest of the goodies I've ordered to turn up, thought I'd make a start on the preshading and the tyres using Tamiya Nato Black, rather than twiddling my thumbs. Icarus
  12. Thanks all. Wizball is quite correct - the decals are too orange. Just ordered some replacements from Carpena. I will probably keep the canopy closed up, as I love the profile of the late Mk spitfires. Expect a slight delay whilst all my goodies are delivered by Santa, on his little known "New Year" delivery ride... Icarus
  13. Evening all. I would like to join this Group Build please. I will build this model. Initially I thought it would be totally out of the box, but I have just been on a certain website related to a model shop in North London, and have bought a kabuki mask and some resin. In the meantime... Further updates when the postman has delivered the goodies.... Icarus
  14. Afternoon all. With the obvious festivitity-related pause in play, not much has been done on this build until today. Managed to build up the cockpit contents, do a bit a dry brushing then add a layer of gloss varnish. I will close up the fuselage this evening, then add the oil pin wash before a final coat of matt varnish. I always feel the cockpit components should be in the right orientation before doing the pin wash - I think it gives a more realistic gravity-influenced effect. Still trying to sort out the super powerful flash on my new camera (thank you Santa). Believe it or not, there are red and brown details on these sidewalls... The tailwheel on the Revell G-10 needed replacing to replicate the piccies supplied by Troy. I have cut off the wheel, tidied up the fuselage (not shown), then constructed a new oleo and strut from part of an old rocket projectile. Note the sliver of PE used as strengthening to what would otherwise be a butt joint, with all the future breakage risks. Hopefully this will not be visible when it is all painted up. More updates later... Icarus
  15. Thanks Troy. Red wheels it is then. Could I ask if anyone has any idea what the wheel bay colour should be? The decal sheet is a bit vague on this, and as I don't usually build Luftwaffe aircraft my background knowledge is a bit vague. Icarus
  16. Look what I found in the "library". Time for some cross-kitting. Icarus
  17. Wow! Helpful would be an understatement. As you say, the tailwheel modification is easy, and I'm sure it wouldn't be too difficult to mix RLM 77. I must admit I did look at the RLM28 callout for the spinner and u/c inner with some suspicion. The wing bulges are more of an issue. I shall continue to build the rest up, and think about this... Thanks for the input, Icarus
  18. Morning all. After a session of PE glueing today, sprayed the basic cockpit with RLM 02. There is some PE on the sidewalls as well. Not immediately obvious where all the hard work has gone - hopefully things will be more evident after the seatbelts have been added, and I've used some oils for shading. PE attached prior to painting And after RLM 02 Will also be getting out my "cross-eyes" later to paint up some of the knobs and switches. Icarus
  19. Thanks. Yes, apparently it is an RLM 76 overall scheme with RLM 28 spinner. Gives me scope for some weathering.. Icarus
  20. Morning all. A slightly different slant here. Will be using the excellent Revell kit as a base, utilising the Eduard PE and LF Models 401 Sqn RAF scheme decal sheet: Icarus
  21. Morning all. Starting a bit late in this GB (Interwar GB Hawk had all of my spare time until now). I would like to join with the 1:48 Revell Bf 109 G-10, built in captured RAF colours, if that is OK? Icarus
  22. I shall contribute an OEZ 1:48 Su-7BMK to the fray. Did some slicing and dicing on it ready for the Soviet A/C Foreign Services GB, or something along those lines, but didn't get much further. Ramadan War-era Egyptian Air Force colours, by the way, since you're asking. What with this, the Swedish GB Viggen, and the Me 109 GB, I'm going to be a busy boy over the festive period... Icarus
  23. Slight change of plan, due to an equipment shortage (I have managed to "lose" my ESCI Viggen in a tragic flat moving organisational mishap..). Instead, shall be building the Airfix 1:72 Spitfire PR XIX in Swedish Air Force colours, out of the box (apart from maybe some Eduard goodies depending on how my internet shopping session goes tonight..)
