  1. Season's greetings everyone. I would like to drag my second submission kicking and screaming into this Group Build, out of the stash of Doom. As you can see, I have barely started it, but unfortunately found that whoever had had this kit before has made a somewhat ham-fisted attempt at converting it from BKL status to BMK....apparently blindfolded! I kind of lost my mojo on this kit then. Anyway, here's where things stand now. As you can see, there are resin seats, wheels, and Hi-Decal decals to contribute to fun and games. I'm inclined to do either the Algerian or Egyptian AF BMK Fitter A Icarus

Kit: Hobbycraft 1:48 Hawker Sea Fury FB II Decals: Almark and Xtradecal Extras: Eduard PE for cockpit, Airwaves PE wingfold, resin main wheels Painted with Xtracrlix and Tamiya acrylics. Weathering: Windsor and Newton oil paint pin wash, Tamiya weathering pigments and artist's pastels Build thread: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234971566-hobbycraft-sea-fury-fb11-804-nas-faa-1953-54/ Icarus
  3. Hurrah! The Sea Fury won the Club Open Competition last night, bless it! I have done a little more light weathering with pastels, so the model is now complete. I will post some up to date photos in the Gallery. My next KUTA entry - a barely started OEZ 1:48 Su-7 BKL. Then, my shelf of doom is empty... Icarus
  4. All done now I think. Maybe a bit more weathering with pastels, but I will sit and think about it for a while no point overdoing things! Thank you for your interest. The Academy 1:48 Strike Eagle is the only resident left on the shelf of doom,so this may be joining this GB in the near future... Icarus
  5. A bit more work this morning - the terrific Tamiya Smoke airbrushed on for exhaust staining, plus a few other stains. Next step- oil paint pin wash, then the wing fold mechanism (which I'm slightly trepidatious about, in all truth...) Icarus
  6. Thank you Pat. I don't intend to go overboard with this one, with some moderate exhaust staining and oil pin washes. Anyway, a way to go yet. Here it is with all the decals on. Next steps varnishing, some initial weathering, then fit the wing fold PE. By the way, I've just rediscovered the original build thread for this model back on the Korean War Group Build. I had forgotten what was lying underneath all that maskng on the canopy... http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234960692-hobbycraft-148-faa-sea-fury-fb11-lieutenant-peter-hoagy-carmichael/ Icarus
  7. Good morning. A bit of work whilst sniffing away at the first cold of the season... Looking ridiculously pristine at the moment (apart from that inadvertent "combat damage" to the port wing tip, which will need touching up). Next some varnish, then a combination of Xtradecal and Almark decals, before the real fun starts with the wing fold mechanism... Icarus
  8. Good morning all. Could I please join the party with this part-completed Sea Fury, which was originally going to be Hoagy Carmichael's machine, for the Korean War GB. I got so involved in trying to find out which Sea Fury actually did shoot down the MiG-15 that Hoagy claimed, that I forgot the GB! Anyway, now that the time has passed, I'm actually going to make the rather pretty 804 NAS Sea Fury, with the stripey nose... Icarus
  9. RNAS 4 (N) Squadron Sopwith Pup "ANZAC" Wingnut Wings 1:32 Kit Paint: Xtracolor, Tamiya acrylics. Wood effect with oil paints and varnish Weathering: Oil paint and pastels Rigging - E-Z line Build thread: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234965031-wnw-132-rnas-sopwith-pup-anzac-4n-sqn/ [/url] Icarus
  10. Thanks everyone. This is the state of play at the moment. As you will see, there are still some rigging bits to do, but nearly done. Happily, this won the Club Competition last night - clearly no-one was counting! Just the previously-mentioned rigging, and some weathering to do, then should be done. Icarus
  11. Evening all. Following on from some ideas I saw in a magazine, I am using 1.25mm masking tape to help highlight the struts in the wings, with airbrushed highlighting around this. Masking: And after airbrushed highlighting (plus a few bits glued on..) I think the undersurfaces look a bit stark. I will blend in the colours a bit after adding the decals. Icarus
  12. OK. FINALLY, this is at least starting to resemble an aeroplane, rather than a woodworking experiment... Not enough wings yet, but give it time. Next step - spraying on an approximation of PC10, then the fun really starts... Icarus
  13. Thank you all for your help, and then positive feedback. Shame most of this hard work will not be visible in the finished model, I presume. Mind you, that is true of my surgical work, but that doesn't stop the results being important! Icarus
  14. OK. Thanks to Mr eBay, and some 0.2mm Nickel rod, internal bracing done in cockpit. I have also added some control cabling using EZ-line: I have to say, this WW1 modelling lark isn't half high maintenance. Oil paints, veneers, EZ-line, Nickel wire. I might now get a chance to make this look like an aircrsft, rather than a very complicated loom.. Icarus
  15. OK. Next question for the floor. Do I drill a hole all the way through one "strut", thread the ez line through, superglue, then do the same at the opposite end, the latter end under tension, then make good? It's the only way I imagine it can be done. As I think is pretty evident, this is a new world to me... Icarus
  16. OK - a bit of a lag here, exams and all that. Anyway, I've had a bit of time this evening to work on the cockpit. Next step bracing - if I work out how I'm going to do it... Icarus
  17. OK. Finally, all that oil paint is dry... Cockpit just started.. So...I now need to start the rigging. Any tips? Heat-stretched sprue? Be gentle with me - I'm a WW1 novice! Thanks in advace, Icarus
  18. Wow. I never thought I would be such a frequent visitor to the local Art shop, but it's all gris to the mill.. Wood work, with some Burnt Sienna oils, and tinted varnish... As you can see, I have also sprayed some of the Aluminium surfaces, in the forlorn hope that I actually get beyond all this messing around with oil paints, and actually make a model! All good fun, Icarus
  19. Ok. My first attempts at a "wood grain" effect - Tamiya XF-59 as a base, with streaking of either Windsor & Newton "Burnt Umber" or "Raw Umber"oil paint on top.. Still early days, but great fun! And yes, I did do both props, as I'm having a bit of a wobble over which scheme to do Icarus
  20. Morning all. Could I join the party with second WNW Pup here? Will go for the ANZAC version. The stuff at the bottom will be part of the base... Icarus
  21. Morning all A bit of progress. Extra Dark Sea Grey now on, bar a bit of touching up. Next, wheel bases and metal bits, then decals.. Icarus
  22. OK. Primed with the usual Halfords grey primer, then first layer of Xtracrylix Sky. Anyone got a sensible suggestion for what the wheel well colour should be? Opinion seems to vary, between the yellow seen in some wing fold piccies, and aluminium. Thanks, Icarus
  23. Morning all. Thanks Troy. Will try and explain the volume requirements to the little guy, but I suspect he may not comply. Old habits die hard. Have just been getting a bit surgical with the Sea Fury, although I've never used a razor saw in the day job. As you can see, have cut off the wings at the designated places ready for the wing fold PE. I also cut open the kit-supplied canopy, ready to mount open in the end. Sadly, I managed to mess up the vac-form replacement, so I'm stuck with the original! I have now lightly glued the wings back on again, to let me do the painting. Masked, and ready to spray Icarus
  24. Now starting to look like a Sea Fury. The rudder and tailplanes are just pushed into place, to allow easy removal during painting. Not much evidence of all that hard work in the cockpit! Still need to add the final PE detail around the canopy frame and gunsight, which should happen today. Icarus
