Hi Magman, I've got a few other AFV kits including the Mk iii AVRE. Not long finished the Scimitar kit (apart from tracks being tight its a lovely kit) Its just strange that some of the sprues are fine and its the two 'E' sprues I'm having the issues with. They are definatly a paler green that others. Its my Swann morten scalpel I use for removing the parts, only use the side cutters for bigger parts Simon

Afternoon Gents, its a work in progress with no pics at moment, more a question.. Is/Has anybody else builiding/built this relatively new Churchill Mk IV kit from AFV Club (Nice box art with the Churchill covered in extra tracks) I noticed a slight difference in colour of the sprues and the detail on some of them is better than others but my major issue is that two of the sprues are a nightmare. There are meant to be two 'gutters' that run along the top of the side doors to hold the tow cables. These parts just crubbled when trying to remove them from the sprue. Last night I nearly gave up on it while working on the intakes. The grill part snapped while getting a light sanding. The plastic feels really hard and brittle, like the mixture isn't right. Slightest bend and it just snaps Any ideas? Simon

Cheers Gents. I knew it was old due to the instruction sheet having the little hints and tips and the cartoon sketches on it.. I remember in my much younger years building the matchbox 1/72 kit as a pre production model. So that thought is in my mind now. I think I will get a resin pre glass cockpit (make it fit) and maybe a seat for it and keep the rest as is. (will it be too old school to put an Aces II seat in it?) Keep the 70's look with all the bright warning symbols, panel markings and a set of proper Blue and Red Stars and bars on it. Make a change from boring grey aircraft.. Simon

Good morning Folks, I got given a pristine (just smells of many many years in a loft) 1/48 Tamiya A-10 Thunderbolt last week. So was having a good look at it out of the bags last night and really fancied bringing it a bit more up to date. I see there are quite a few different resin parts for the hobbyboss and the italeri kits. I fully expect the hobbyboss kit to be a new mould but does anyone know if the italeri one is a Tamiya rebox? I would like to put a new cockpit and wheel wells on mine as well as update its payload a bit So does anybody know if any of these resin & photo etch sets are suitable for the 70's tamiya kit? Cheers Simon

I find they always stay a bit too shiny even after a matt varnish. not too much of a problem on aircraft but not so good on tanks etc, etc

Try Scoonie Hobbies in Kirkcaldy Scotland. They may still have some left. I bought mine for £30 a few weeks back They have a few other Hasegawa kits at decent prices as well. simon

Cheers for replies guys. I've been looking into it for a while and was thinking i needed to get an extract and make up a proper box for spraying in Is airbrushing much more expensive though? I'm meaning paint's, cleaners etc, etc. I've got 20/30yr old tins of humbrol that are still fine but whats the life expectancy of paints in airbrushing? Do you use a lot more with an airbrush ? Simon
-
Hi Perry is airbrushing messy? I'm meaning the fine mist you get from a spray can. Do you get similar from an airbrush? I paint in our spare bedroom and I'd hate everything to have a fine layer all over it. I can use an automotive spray gun but have never used a model one so no idea if they are similar in use Cheers Simon

Billy I'm in the same boat as you. I've built models for years with a hairy stick and have started doing this with spray tins. (The new tamiya stuff is cracking). I'm in that swaying between sticking with what I know and taking the plunge and going for an airbrush. The Scottish Nationals are in April and was thinking of buying an airbrush there but then I think about the compressor and then cleaning stuff and everything else. Could somebody who already sprays maybe tell me what they had to buy initial to get up and running. Is it expensive once your started, what about extraction? Hope somebody can help Simon

They look cracking for 1/144

I opened this up thinking it would be some wee plasticky thing. Spat my coffee over my desk and pc at work... Where the hell did you get them...they look superb. Don't touch them, just put lots of pics up These look like crown jewels to have in any stash..... If you have issues with how they look try and get a copy of Iron Maiden 'Somewhere in Time' preferable on vinyl because the Band are pictured with the actual spinner from the movie on the Slip sleeve inside Simon

Looks fantastic Paul. How did it go together? I bought myself the new airfix 1/72 BF110 the other day and it's a cracking wee kit. I totally agree a new 1/72 Hurricane would be great or a flying pencil or even a 111 Jambo

What a cracking model.

Happy New Year when it comes to you as well. What a cracking model really looks lovely. Really like the picture of it sitting on the bit of deck. I've got the old airfix prowler in the stash (sorry box of shame in the loft) where it's going to bloody stay, lol

Looking great so far. with regards the spitfire supercharger The main part of the engines on the original Filming model are meant to be parts of the old airfix apollo kit -
Hi Shar, I refuse to pay more for a resin add on set than i did for the model in the first place.... i've had a look on ebay and hven't seen the legend set on it for ages, managed to get the etch ammo box set from model hobbies but i'll have a look for that verlinden set. cheers for that Simon

Afternoon gents I'm looking for advice on bits and boobs. I forgot I had started this 1/35th Academy Sheridan kit and dug it out at weekend and it really doesn't need much to finish it except the turret basket is really really bare and needs to be filled with all sorts of boxes, ammo, bed rolls that they all seemed to have been covered with in Vietnam. I know that legend do a set for it but it's a bit expensive so was wondering if anybody knows of another company that does a generic American Vietnam junk pile! Hope some of you guys have any suggestions Cheers Simon

PRU RAF Mustang III HobbyBoss 1/72

Morning Ed, here is one I did earlier mine is the Accurate Miniatures 1/48. Good luck with your build, looking forward to it Jambo -
I got told that both new carriers had there names announced so quickly because Navy tradition has it that once you name the ship you have to keep building it... Don't know if thats true or not... But why have a new Queen Elizabeth Aircraft carrier when Cunard have just launched a new Queen Liz cruise liner? Can you have two ships flying with the same name flying the same flag? Jambo

Thank god I'm not alone... But then came into my 'Man Cave' and started counting stuff up...I'm so ashamed 1/35 Dragon Sherman (Built, primered but trying to bend Photo etch sand skirts can be so depressing) Academy M3 Stuart (Built, primered, paint ordered today for it) Academy M-12 155mm, (built, primered awaiting paint) Dragon Panzer 1 (built, primered, but still can't find a panzer grey I'm happy with, delaying the single link track build up as well) Tamiya LVTP7A1 (Built, primered. Anybody got a good way of masking it to do the 3 colour scheme?) Academy M2 Bradley (Built, painted just needs finished off but got bored after finding I'd painted full interior the wrong colour) 1/48 Academy F-16 (Decals, decals, decals) Tamiya Rufe (built, primered but IJN grey or green, can't decide...) Academy Mig 29 UB (Built up but panel gaps and fit is so depressing) Tamiya Huckbein (cracked the canopy trying to be smart) 1/72 Revell ME P.1099B (bought on a whim, built up, primered, can't be bothered now) Hasegawa Seahawk (sick of the sight of grey) Fujima E-2C Hawkeye (Wants to be a tailsitter, Trying to find something heavy but small enough that fits the nose, Urainium anyone?) 1 -
Bloody hell... that doesn't look like you get much for your 30 notes!!! I really only want whats sitting on the sponson on the left hand side in the pic (radio???) I'm all for adding extra bits to a model but when the model cost me £20 it's getting a bit much when the extra resin costs £30 Jambo

Was that the drone they tried fitting on the SR-71? I must admit it was a 'What the hell' moment when i first spotted it, Then noticed there are a couple stored together further to the West... Why for a joke hasn't somebody there thought about piling a load of the cut up 'bits' together, Throw a tarpaulin over the top of it.. see if the satelitte image and the shadow on the ground make us think it's an X wing hiding in among it all There is a bit of the Boneyard with loads of old rusting B-52's all cut up.. Gonna use that for painting up my Fine Molds Slave 1

My Dad works at Roysth Dockyard in charge of painting on the Lusty and has been doing prep work on the new aircraft carriers. He has been telling me for ages that they couldn't find a paint that could take the jet blast from the F-35. Back in the days of lead paint and before Health & safety they might have found something but not now
