Oh dear!
The guy who did the first review on hyperscale thinks because the original design was done by Sikorsky that it was originally a Russian helicopter!
Don't think this guy is the man to be doing reviews somehow.................

Hello all,
Does anyone have any information regarding the dimensions of aircraft launched mines used for "gardening" operations in late 1941? (Which types would have been used around that time most commonly?)
Elger
RAF Mines dropped from bombers were approximately 9 feet long by 17 inches in diameter (including a wood or metal fairing). Weighing in at around 1,500 pounds (680 kg), each mine held 750 pounds (340 kg) of amatol or minol explosive. As mines were often dropped close to one another, a device was attached that prevented mines being detonated by one exploding nearby.

Hi There
Wonder if someone could please help is there a aftermarket replacement for part No,s E10,E11 the gunpack out of the Airfix Lightning Fmk6.The reason I ask is I have lost my kit parts have been moving my model room to loft .. Kind Regards Craig
The F6 did not have a gunpack, the only aircraft marks that had gunpacks were the F1, F2, F2A.
The F6 had two guns mounted in the front portion of the ventral fuel tank.It was not a separate gun pack.

I assume you mean the issue you have is from 1986, The kit was originally issued in 1970!

IIRC the addition of the semicircular plates on the trailing edges of Mk1 made them 1A.

We've reviewed a couple here:
I like the 3D printed ones best, as they're easier to crumple, and look a bit like the material used for the real ones. In answer to your earlier question, both types are printed on both sides. The 3D ones are printed have printed text on the "decal" side, which is logical really, but quite a shock when you first see them
The ones with "Remove before Flight" on them are American and not generally used on UK Jets. You will see them on the safety devices of American weapons such as sidewinders in UK service but never on pylons. If the original US RBF flag is damaged it will be usually replaced with a British red/white RBF flag.

By the way there is no "17th squadron" in the RAF, its "No 17 sqn." We dont use "first second third" terminology we leave that to Americans.

George,
Going at this from another angle, the NF13 was a tropicalised version of the NF11 and was flown by 39 Sqn and 219 Sqn from Kabrit in Egypt's Suez Canal Zone from March 1953. 219 Sqn disbanded at Kabrit in September 1954 but 39 moved to Luqa in January 1955. Having checked all the other squadrons listed by Jefford as operating the Meteor NF11, none were based in Malta.
Mark.
IIRC 39 did operate at times a few NF11 to supplement the 13's when there was a shortage of NF13 airframes.

Is it the same as on the Jaguar nose actually? The GR5-9 Harrier did have it as well, no? Or was that only a camera?
The LRMTS on Jaguar was the same equipment as fitted in the Harrier GR3 dolphin nose. Not sure about the one fitted in the Tornado.

That's the Laser Range Finder and Marked Target Seeker for laser-guided munitions.
Its actually nothing to do with laser guided munitions, Its designed to provide a laser range for delivering unguided weapons and and also gives a visual cue in the HUD as to the location of a marked target which is indicated by a ground based troops using a laser marker, again to deliver unguided munitions. A LGB uses a different laser system that actually guides the bomb after release. This can be a aircraft laser designator or ground based.

I have a couple of Matchbox Meteor Night Fighter kits in the stash, and the C Scale TT20 conversion, and fancied building a TT20 and NF14(T), as a way of using them up.
What I want to know is what model paint (preferably acrylic) matches the yellow TT stripes found on Fleet Air Arm TT20s. I have seen it named as Saturn Yellow, but that has really not got me anywhere.
I am sure it has been discussed here before, but I can't find anything.
Thanks in advance, Martin
The correct colour is BS381c 355 Lemon yellow.

Caribbean? I thought limbo dancing was invented by a Scotsman trying to get under the door of a pay toilet!

True but if you have a 1:1 scale build I think we can definitely make an exception for it. Though do you think you can get it done in 90 days we might need an extension.
Needs a lot of work on the paint job as well!

Are there any aftermarket gun barrels that would work for a 1/72 Mirage F.1? Found the Quickboost ones for the Mirage III but they're 1/48. Have also found the Staghound metal ones but not sure they're correct for my build. Maybe I could cheat with A-4 guns?
You are looking at something tiny, 30mm calibre works out to 0.41mm in 1/72 so you are looking at less than 1mm external diameter of the barrel in 1/72. I would go for a hypodermic needle as well but even that is probably oversize!

Converting a 1/48 Spitfire1 into a nice pink PR version, and having to drill the camera port in the hatch behind the cockpit. Anybody tell me the diameter of the circular camera port?

A really lovely build well painted and great scheme!
Mind you, I think I prefer this particular aircraft (BuNo 153783) in its final colour scheme, but I admit I am a bit biased on this!
Royal Air Force F-4J(UK) (RAF serial ZE352, Ex USN BuNo 153783) of No. 74 Squadron in flight near San Diego, California (USA),
