  1. Hi both. I used to fly in the 3AEF Chipmunks when in the CCF at Bristol Grammar School. Good times (the flying, not being at BGS!).
  2. Great stuff. Excellent to see a kit really worked on. Love the collection, I have become focussed on 1/144 scale, especially as it allows a large collection to be created in a relatively small space.
  3. Here's the first of the series of aircraft I associate with Filton Airfield, and the one that brings back the fondest memories of standing on the cycle track on the A38 at the eastern end of the runway with the roar of the engines and the smell of the jet fuel. XA903's history has been recounted in detail elsewhere, and is well worth tracking down, sadly only the nose remains at 2AV8 near Stranraer. This build is based on the Pit Road/GWH B2 kit and converted to a B1 (thanks to robvulcan of this manor for inspiration to attack the wings). I have not altered the intakes (intentional) or included the wing pitot tubes (forgot). The Olympus 593 was scratchbuilt, decals were a combination of kit, spares box and home made. Not a perfect build, but great fun and, overall, I'm happy with the result. 4. Here are the first four aircraft built as a project to represent aircraft associated (by me) with Filton airfield from the 1960s until the airfield's untimely closure in 2012. There will be more to follow, with an F111 and Concorde in the pipeline. All aircraft will be built in 1/144 scale, which is a little limiting but does mean the collection will not take over the entire house. More pics and details of the individual builds to follow. Some aircraft associated with Filton airfield in the 60s and 70s by jonbru0903, on Flickr From left to right in the picture above we have: G-AXLR, the VC10 test bed for the RB211 engine, initially designed for the Lockheed Tristar; D-BABC, the third prototype VFW-614 based a Filton for a few weeks as part of the development programme for the Rolls-Royce/SNECMA M45H engine; XA903, probably the third best known Vulcan, used for testing the Blue Steel missile among other things prior to arriving at Filton to be modified to carry the Rolls-Royce/SNECMA Olympus 593 engine for Concorde. Later it also tested the Turbo-Union RB199 for the MRCA/Tornado; Finally, on the right, G-AMPO a DC-3 used in the communications and transport role, primarily in relation to the Concorde flight test programme based at Fairford. 5. Great build. The WIP thread is an interesting read as well. Thanks
  6. Great builds, Mike. The Viscount is a true classic. Any more pics?
  7. Thoroughly enjoyed spending some time looking at this one. Superb.
  8. Love the build, it's great to see unusual versions/colour schemes. Well done.
  9. Love it Rob. Following inspiration from your conversion of B2s to B1s I am in the process of converting the GWH Vulcan into 'B1' XA903 with the underslung Olympus 593. Alternating between loving it and swearing at it! Keep up the great work.
  10. It's a great scale. with a bit of magnification my 56 year old eyes can deal with the size. The ability to build a wide range of aircraft size without too quickly filling storage space is brilliant. Keep it up!
  11. Great build of a real classic, superb. Thanks for sharing.
  12. Hi John Love the concept! The airfield is the former RAF Wattisham rather than Farnborough. Check out https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@52.1233607,0.9596665,4407m/data=!3m1!1e3 for Google image of the site. Jon
  13. Looks like a great build. Superb.
  14. Great build. I didn't realise Microsoft made decal film as well!
  15. VFW was with Rolls Royce, including flying a lot of left hand circuits from the then runway 28 to check out public response to the noise, among other tasks. This link is to an image of the aircraft at Filton. http://www.transportarchive.org.uk/printobject.php?rnum=G2031&searchitem=&mtv=G1&pnum=33
  16. tTim, I was probably a year ahead of you. finished in 1976. I went on the camps to Colerne, Wyton and Gutersloh.
  17. Hi Tim Bristol Grammar School CCF. Good question. Jon
