  1. Well done all - I enjoyed that one and pleased I managed to get two over the finish line! Great quality all round
  2. It really is a nice kit. The most fiddly bits are the surgery to the missiles and fitting those hoses. Also if installing the link and length tracks late in the build then leave off the drive sprockets and fix later
  3. 1/48 Trumpeter MiG-3 (Early) Built using: Vallejo, Tamiya, Alclad and Lifecolor paints, kit decals, Ultimate washes Built as: White 17, Eastern Front Build thread: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235004132-148-trumpeter-mig-3-finished/
  4. All done - please see RFI http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235006714-148-trumpeter-mig-3-early/
  5. Finished for the Great Patriotic War GB this is the cracking Trumpy MiG-3. Lovely little kit with good fit and nice details. No real issues to report excep[t that the cockpit could be a little more 'finessed' - I didn't want to spend the money or time to put it right but it looks OK under a closed hood. Finished as White 17 in early 1942 using Vallejo, Tamiya, Alclad and Lifecolor paints, Ultimate washes, Alclad Gloss and Matt Kotes and chalk pastille weathering. Enjoyed it immensely and a fine looking Russian fighter now sits in the display cabinet. All comments welcome
  6. This appears to be recommended and a detailed account - also includes the later Gotha raids https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/51sYzP5P%2BTL._SX391_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg
  7. I came across it one day when walking to a meeting. London's full of this stuff. I was on a 23 bus going to another meeting yesterday and went past St Clement Danes in the Strand/Fleet St - the pock marks to the walls from bomb blasts remain untouched from 1940/1 - fascinating.
  8. And there is a plaque on a building on Farringdon Road EC1 that commemorates this - the original building was one of those destroyed in that very raid https://greatwarlondon.wordpress.com/2013/02/03/zeppelin-damage-in-farringdon/
  9. Your wish is my command Cliff! First there were some preliminaries...the nose was hand painted Tamiya Flat Black - it was going to be sprayed but the masking was just too fiddly on the rear underside of the nose, so out came the brush. Once that was done my trusty rough sponge was deployed using Tamiya Silver to dab on wear and tear to the metal parts of the airframe (inner wings and fuselage). Picture evidence seems to show they got quite worn in that hostile Russian environment. Once completed to my eye, the model was given a coat of Alclad Gloss. An initial wash of Ultimate Dirt was applied and then wiped off with a damp cloth A second wash was completed and the (just for Cliff) on with the decals. They are very nice and settle very well. I attempted some rudimentary exhaust staining with chalk pastilles and a finger tip but I'll probably go over this with some airbrushed grey and Tamiya Smoke Bomb rails fitted Undercart fitted And now able to stand on all three wheels Undercarriage doors and the bombs to do and some final weathering and then I think she's done. Was there an aerial wire between the front post and the tail? Thanks for looking
  10. Really nice job on what looks like a cracking little kit
  11. I have this in the stash Arnold - looks good mate
  12. Thanks for the comments guys! Despite a long day at a friend's wedding and a day in the garden today, I still managed a fair bit Friday evening and tonight... Clear bits glued in place - they needed a swipe of filler at the very front but the rest fitted beautifully Underside intakes all filled and checked ready for primer including the flaps fitted in the 'up' position. They needed a little fettling and sanding of the front edges to sit properly Although not clear due to my cr#p photography skills - that is actually Alclad Airframe Aluminium in the wheel wells sprayed on top of Vallejo Black primer These were then masked off for the main primer using Vallejo Grey Tamiya Black pre-shading (or blotching as I usually end up doing with my bludgeoning airbrush technique) Underside on...I don't have Russian colours so I used Lifecolor RLM 78 with a misted white over the top to lighten it This was masked off at leading edges and tailplane to wing trailing edge and Lifecolor Interior Green sprayed. The blotching has given me some nice variation. I masked off the outer parts of the props and sprayed Alclad Aluminium as the instructions call for this curious metal inner part Under wing bomb rails brush painted with Tamiya Aluminium On the home straight now...thanks for looking
  13. And that is where the problems started, it was a bugger to fly for the poorly trained...you're right though Artie a good looking beast
  14. A bit more progress on the little MiG Filler applied and the roots have been sanded. Not much needed - I decided not to fix the upper wing halves first as the fit seemed OK. The nose is an amalgam of sectional bits - I can see why Trumpeter did it but it's fiddly to get right and also needed a swish of putty As mentioned above, the gear covers are hopelessly thick, so a quick online purchase from the big H and these arrived today Radiator housing painted by brush ready for gluing. The fit isn't great as the middle section needs some fettling to sit right. I used some Mr Dissolved Putty to fill the gaps and they look OK now The clear parts were masked with Tamiya tape cut with a sharp scalpel The they were glued in place using Gator Glue Thanks for looking
  15. Yes it did Andy...recommended read is Krysztian Ungvary's book on the siege of Budapest - such a harrowing read but actually relevant if you're visiting. Whilst we're at it, Viktor Sebestyen's book on 1956 Hungarian Uprising is also essential reading before you go too!
  16. A beauty - always loved that kit - I still have one in the stash (previous 3 have all gone to the great plastic heaven).
  17. OK Rich, count me in - I have a Czech Model FJ-1 Fury that would be perfect for this
  18. I just saw the decals a few years ago and after visiting Budapest in 2014, I just did a bit of background reading on Hungary in WWII (tragic) and just thought it would make something slightly out-of-the-ordinary in the display case
  19. Yes, Pat, you do. My Hungarian one will be the stubby barrelled early F
  20. Decided to attempt one more entry - an Italeri Panzer IV. I'm going to fo an Ausf F model to go with some Bison decals for a Hungarian Army machine from 1942 on the Ost Front Looks like a lot of plastic. Hope its going to be fun! Se you when I've started
