Hi Antoine, The books "l'Aviation Militaire Francaise en Indochine 1946-1952 (tome1)" (1994) and L'Aviation Francaise en Indochine 1946-1954 (tome2)"(1996), both by Jean-Claude Soumille from Association Airdoc offer some pictures where the serials can be read. JN122 9.S-8 JM873 9.S-6 JN123 8.S-1 And some other photographs where the serials cannot beread. It also has some texts on 8S and 9S operations. Kind Regards, Peter

  4. According to Air Arsenal North America (Phil butler, Midland Counties Publishing, 2004) this serial batch went to 50 Lockheed Hudsons that were re-serialled A16-1 to A16-50. The original British serials P5571-P5620 were cancelled. Peter
  5. I have found a picture of the plane in question (I think) on the web link As the OP said, itis airplane 9-622, in the picture on the web it is preserved at Balikesir, in the MDF book it looks operational. Peter

  10. Hi all, I want to start the MPM Havoc Turbinlite. However MPM has only included a 'standard'rear cockpit, where I would expect the the rear cockpit would be filled with a radar scope for the AI Mk IV radar and assorted parafernalia. Does anybody know what the rear cockpit really looked like? Kind regardfs, Peter

Hello Christian, If you go the the Dutch IPMS page on the Fokker D.XX: https://ipms.nl/artikelen/nedmil-luchtvaart/vliegtuigen-f/vliegtuigen-f-fokker-d21 it has the colours mentioned by @alt-92 that you can click on to get to the nearest modelcolour matches Humbrol, Xtracolour, gunze and TAmiya among others are covered.   13. OK. Warpaint 116 Hawker Fury and Nimrod. On Page 9 a drawing of K1930 marked with black and white checks on the rudder AND black and white checks on the fuselage. According to the caption the Squadron commanders aircraft. Other drawing on this page just black checks only on fuselage - no white checks. On page 23 are some interesting photo's. 1st a formation photo of 6 Furies, led by (presumably) K1930, which shows only black checks on both the fuselage and the tail - which would indicate that the drawing on page 9 is wrong. Also on this page the same photo as in the MMP publication, showing what might be (Iám not 100% convinced) black and white chechecks on the fuselage and black only checks on the upper wings. According to the caption a flight commander's aircraft with a ble tail. All other 43 Squadron aircraft in this book appear to have black checks only. Peter

According to the TEXT in the book On Silver Wings by Alec Lumsden and Owen Thetford (page 156) "Markings: Black squares in a checkerboard pattern against the aluminium dope finish...", "By 1937, the standard fighter spearhead surrounded the squadron badge on the fin." This is a book that has collected various articles from Aeroplane monthly. I don't know the dates of the original articles, the book is from 1993. The photo's in this book seem to support no white squares, but all are from pretty far away. Peter

  17. Hi Heather, Re the mysterious sprue C, I have the Finnish version of this Fokker (MPM kit 7250). This has a sprue C, with the wings and a three piece engine cowling (and also a venturi). It should also have two cannon's, but 1 has gone AWOL. As far as I can find (Nederlandse Vliegtuig encyclopedie Fokker D-XXI, 1978 by H. Hooftman) the Dutch D.XXI's did not have this venturi. So just fill the hole! Peter

  20. Dear all, One of the options in the MPM kit is this one - 208 Sqn WX956/A 1956: It looks pretty with its large orange patches. However I cannot find any photo's of this aircraft. Profile drawings are in (among others) Scale Aircraft Modelling November 1984 (volume 7 nr 2) and Valiant wings productions: The Suez Crisis. The reason that I am looking for photo's is that the serial number seems to be incorrect. WX956 was never issued to any aircraft. Meteor FR.9's in the WX serial block started from WX962. According to the book Cold War Shield volume 1, 208 Sqn usd red and yellow as flight colour markings, not blue as indicated by the above profile. In Airfile 10 - RAF Middle East & Near East is a similar looking profile of WX966/A: The main question is: Did this airframe really sport the large orange panels or was it painted in the high altitude Day Fighter scheme? Hope someone knows (and the difference can be deduced from b/w pictures) Kind regards, Peter
  21. A long shot, but maybe some-one has the information. I am looking for the code letter of Sqn Ldr Ian Rowland's Vickers Vildebeest during the battle of Endau. The book Bloody Shambles (vol.2) gives the serial number as K6379, but doesn't give a squadron code letter. Anyone ha san answer? Peter

The best reference I have on this subject is a book called "De geschiedenis van Camouflage en kentekens op vliegtuigen van de Nederlandse strijdkrachten" (A history of camouflage and markings on aircraft of the Dutch armed forces) by J. Greuter, M. Schep, L. Boerman and J. Bossong published in 1997. On page 136 of this book it states: Starting february 1st 1954 the agreed colours as specified in STANAG (Standard Agreement) 3089 came into force. According to this agreement the colours for carrier aircraft were: - topsides: Extra Dark Sea Grey - Undersides: Sky or white The Dutch TBM-3W Avengers were deliverd in 1953, before the introduction of this STANAG. They were all delivered in the then standard US Navy colour of overall ANA623 Glossy Sea Blue It was decided to introduce the STANAG colours gradually and use the dutch industry for this during the aircrafts next major overhaul. As 48-Alone-is-great stated above the Dutch navy identified the colours as FS ~6099 for extra dark sea and FS ~4424 for Sky. To make matters more confusing (page 144 of the above book) on some documents the colours are referred to according to the Sikkens Standaard Vliegtuigkleuren (Sikkens Standard Aircraftcolours). As I don't have actual samples of either the Sikkens colours or the British colours I cannot say if the Sikkens colours more closely matches the British colours or the American FS colours, or are maybe an actual third colour that matches neither.
