  1. From what I'm aware they have only done this in 1/16. The 1/8 may have others.
  2. All finished. Prop turned out a treat. Finishes it off really nicely. |https://thumbsnap.com/TaQqO0Ee |https://thumbsnap.com/GhjLIxRf |https://thumbsnap.com/zzOHPluH |https://thumbsnap.com/iqdle4gr |https://thumbsnap.com/2oQ3KnLL |https://thumbsnap.com/uOP4MQhC |https://thumbsnap.com/F7PnI9P7 |https://thumbsnap.com/qZGj88WX |https://thumbsnap.com/ro2rlrgX |https://thumbsnap.com/xF6UwuzL
  3. More progress. Not happy with the plastic prop in the kit I decided to make my own from walnut and beech veneer. Bonded the veneer together using PVA wood glue, clamped and waited 2 days to fully dry. Scaled a drawing from the internet of a standard British Wooden Propeller from that era to template from. I have profiled one side and it seems to have come out really nice. Well chuffed with the look and finish. Excuse the upside down photo. Not sure what’s happened there. |https://thumbsnap.com/6tc5EA4N |https://thumbsnap.com/dn7T3EJ4 |https://thumbsnap.com/Jo8SCuaf |https://thumbsnap.com/Pt3yKROt |https://thumbsnap.com/OYITDS28 |https://thumbsnap.com/aI7Yk5H8
  4. Nearly finished. Just the prop to go. I’m not liking the plastic version supplied with the kit so I’m going to make one from wood. Intension is to make it the same way as the originals and stack layers of template cut veneer and sculpt the prop by hand. Going to be interesting. |https://thumbsnap.com/tjPTtofD |https://thumbsnap.com/QzcggqKV |https://thumbsnap.com/pymjdCsE |https://thumbsnap.com/Ld725Ks9 |https://thumbsnap.com/zgp5AcNg |https://thumbsnap.com/Ld725Ks9 |https://thumbsnap.com/PWO2RAb4 |https://thumbsnap.com/HItKry7i
  5. Finally got the wings on. Getting the thing sat flat was the hardest bit. Just the engine and a few other panels to go on and finish ringing it. |https://thumbsnap.com/TOpheKT5 |https://thumbsnap.com/VLpxMNzx |https://thumbsnap.com/317FCmTO
  6. Cheers Yes I'm creating sub assys and then bonding together at the end. I'm using Windsor Newton Acrylic oils. They are great for drying time. I've never done woodwork before so this is all new to me. Don't think its come out too bad. It definitely looks wood like with the eye.
  7. Thanks. This isn't having covering on it as its a museum model and I want to see all the rigging. They have done a pretty good job with the plastic parts but yes they are thicker than they should be. Its going to have to be that way unfortunately.
  8. Thought I would share a few pics of my current build. I’ve always fancied building one of the 1/8 scale wooden versions but they are really expensive and quite huge so decided on taking a punt on the smaller plastic version. So far I’ve enjoyed everything about the kit and really looking forward to finishing it. I’ve learnt a lot about how to create wood effect from using oil paints over a base colour. I think it looks like wood in that scale. The kit comes with all the rigging but unfortunately it isn’t that accurate as most relies on just tying the cord through loops in the structure. I’ve decided to hand make all the turnbuckles as you can’t buy 1/16 turnbuckles off the shelf. It’s been fun making them though. Here are a few pics of the build so far. Ok so I have the Rudder and Elevator all rigged and tensioned. Made up some jigs out of lolly sticks to hold the column and rudder bar central. Cockpit coming together slowly. Adding as much copper wire as I can to join up all the fuel system parts.
  9. It's taken a while but got it finished. This is the standard kit and includes S27 PE and full carbon decal set.
  10. More progress. Glued it together last night. Had a few issues with paintbuild up but managed to get it together. Just a few touch ups and final assy.
  11. Thanks. I made it from aluminium welding wire. It's scaled down from the original design. The cover fits perfectly on it.
  12. I saw this on PH. Looks fantastic.
  13. Bit of an update. Struggling with my top coat so lots of flatting and respraying going on. M Decided to finish the steering wheel. Need to touch up the yellow a bit more really. Doesn't look that bad with the eyes though. I also built a scale replica of the pit lane engine cover stand. That just needs a bit of touching up to make it look beautiful.
  14. Yeah I only have a few more pics. I'm actually clear coating it tonight.
  15. Most of the black parts under the bodywork I just put them straight on to the plastic as there was no point painting surfaces that were going to get covered up with decals. The bodywork, chassis, front and rear wings were painted first and then carbon applied afterwards. Took a bit of thinking about but its all looking good. The S27 decals have been really good using microset and sol to put them in place. The Floor was the hardest as it has the most compound angles of all the parts. They all dried on really nice and flat too. I finished the decals on the chassis last night but still have a few more to do but the external carbon is all on. Just need to do the internal cockpit ones and then I'm ready for clearcoating. Cant wait to start building it, its been the best part of 6 months since I started it. .
