  1. Thanks Obi-Jiff, I did quite surprise myself with the final outcome (considering the time lag since the last) - I have to say the forum has been a fantastic source of tips, etc. (I even tried some stretched sprue for the antenae on my P39 Airacobra, which was not as hard as I had imagined, although the kit itself is not great, and I think the Russian decals are way oversized) My results have encouraged me to carry on (sticking with Airfix for now), thanks again for the encouragement!
  2. I'm not really worthy compared to some of the outstanding work - but here you go (if anyone is interested) First Builds in 30 odd years! (1st as a "grown up") Surpised at the quality of the Airfix Kit All hand painted with Humbrol Enamels, supplied Airfix Decals and a coat of Humbrol Matt Coat (tried to get some old Klear after reading about it, but couldn't get any) Anyway - here you go (sorry about the photo quality - very disapointed with my Digi Cam) I like the look of the Swedish livery (sorry about the photo quality - camera struggled) Next Up - Airacobra & an FW189!! Keep up the awesome work on the boards guys - I can only dream!!!! (but am enjoying myself)
  3. Can anyone help with a scan / pdf of the instructions for an Airfix 1/72 P39 Airacobra - I mislaid / lost mine!!!!! Thanks in advance
  4. The current NR one would have been much easier - just spray a mark 3 coach bright yellow!!!!!!! (Nicknamed the flying banana!) (Been on it from Glasgow to Carlisle) Impressive build - of the old one!
  5. Found this - not sure if it been posted before Uniforms The page will translate with Google Translate - hope its useful
  6. off topic I know but this is better:- http://www.susieshotsauce.com/ Thanks again for all the FW help - decals go on the 2 PRXIX Spits over the weekend and the FW & Airacorbra preliminaries start also Will post some Spit pics in Ready For Inspection - Fantastic Friendly and helpful Forum everyone!
  7. Info much appreciated - Ta much (it's a bit like learning to walk again after all this time)
  8. Thanks for the info - I'm not "anal" about these things - but I like them to look reasonable!
  9. Hi Can anyone assit - I'm about to start an FW189 & P-39Q as my second builds in 30 years, can anyone help with nice coloured pictures of the above (was spoled in my first build - Spitfire PRXIX complete with nice Airfix colour print and detailed colours of all the bits), both kits have scant details in terms of things like undercarriage colour, gun colour etc etc, and is the little "tag" on the tailfin a "nav" light? I googled the FW but didn't come up with very much. The Airacobra seems to be a particularly poor moulding (or was I just spoiled with the PRXIX) Thanks in advance for any help and go easy on the "newbie" G PS - The Airacobra will be the Russian Livery, havent decided about the FW (might be slovakian) - I like odd schemes!!
  10. I'm not worthy as they say!!!!! Amazing builds!!! Sadly cant get any Klear - but hey it's my first build!!! Learn from your mistakes!!! (and I have made a lot) - Decals are going on tonight or over the weekend using the Humbrol Decal Fix - any suggestions on the use of it? (Girlfriend is being despatched on a trawl of some shops in the West End of Glasgow next week on an "Original" Klear hunt!)
  11. Experimentation it is then this weekend - may have to make do with new "klear" and humbrol decal fix. The board here has been an amazing reference for tools & tips - Sorry for posting in the wrong section (I'll get there eventually!!)
  12. I can feel some experimenting in the pipeline! Thanks for your advice - my models are nowhere near some of the pieces if art I've seen on here - but they are a lot better than I managed 30 years ago!!
  13. Thanks for the info - can't get the "old" Klear anywhere local sadly (only the new stuff) Will have a go. (I have 2 goes at things - I built 2 kits, in the differing colour schemes - so have 2 full sets of decals!!)

    Decal Help

Hi all - new to all this stuff (well as an adult anyway!) - need some advice re decals. I have completed an Airfix Mx Pr XIX 1/72 Spitfire I have some Humbrol Matt varnishy stuff and Decal Fix - question is - Should I put the decals on before the varnish or after? Any advice humbly and greatfully recieved.
  15. Ta much - will have a closer look from home later & post what little work I've done
  16. Hi All In the throws of 1st model in a very very very (decades) long time - bought 2 kits of the Airfix PRXIX Spit 1/72 (along with paint etc) Quick question re canopy - what colour should I paint the fuselage under the canopy - cockpit green or the same as the exernal fuselage? (I am doing both kits at the same time in the 2 paint scheme varients) Same goes for the other clear bits? Go easy - its been 30 years - I'm learning all over again! (Will post some pics from home later - if anyone is interested) PS - What an incredible resource the forum is.
  17. Hi All I decided a wanted a "grown up" go at building & painting a kit (it been about 30years since my last go) - so bought 2 Airfix 1/72 PRXIX Spitfire to have a go at (Didn't want anything to difficult paint wise, and though the 2 varients looked reasonably easy for a "hand paint) I am looking for some advice from all the obvious "wise sages" on the excellent forum:- (Wish boards like this had been available back in the day) Firstly - the Spitfire has a "Window" panel in the fuselage - what is the best colour idea for painting the lip(? not sure if that is the correct terminology), ie the thickness bit of the fuselage where the clear panel goes? The inside I understand should be cockpit green,or should I paint it the same as the outside of the fuselage (or not paint it!)? Secondly - the main paint schemes have large coverage of the same colour - Is a flat brush the best way to go about this? Thirdly - More of an observation really - slighly disapointed with the lack of any detail on the instrument panel, I know its only 1/72 though, any tips on creating / painting the insides of the cockpit greatly appreciated) Fouthly - I have been interested to read about "klear" regarding cockpits etc - Can't source the "old" stuff here in Glasgow - Have seen the "new" stuff & Astonish Floor Wax - anyone have any thoughts on alternatives. Be gentle - it's my first go at things - will endevour to post some pics in the "Work In Progress" section if anyone is interested Thanks in advance (The forum is quite an incredible resource) OOPS - Posted this in the wrong place (Dohhhh) - MODS you might want to move it - Sorry
