1/72 PZL 23 A/B Karas (Heller)
Savenosouls replied to Savenosouls's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks for the kind words - I however am in awe of the stuff that is posted on here. Re the Kit - some of the detail and fit on these Heller kits is really good, hope they get their act together and reissue some now that they are back in business. -

1/72 PZL 23 A/B Karas (Heller)
Savenosouls replied to Savenosouls's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Thanks - I was surprised at the quality of the Heller kits considering their age. Next Polish will be a PZL 11 (a quite horible kit that was sent from Poland to me) Any ideas for a 1/72 Hurricane in Polish livery would be gratefullly accepted -
If anyone is interested (I'm still on the upward learning curve following a return to the hobby after 30 odd years) I've been trying to do something a bit different from the norm - decided to do some Polish stuff (the GF is Polish) Nowhere near the standard of most of the stuff on here, but someone might be interested. Models from EBAY - Paints Humbrol 155 (Near to Polish Khaki), H87 (Steel Grey) underside, I read an article that stated H155 was as good as any & that the underside was a bit paler than the stated H65 which as a colour I hate) All paints are enamel - plus coat of Quickshine (Klear Substitute), decals applied with quickshine. Coat of Humbrol Matt Coat, all with a hairy stick (and I still cant paint a canopy without it looking like a dogs dinner). The Polish Livery I understand is a PZL 23B, the Romanian Livery is a PZL 23A. The kits don't have figures - I put a pilot & gunner in one (from 1/72 Revell Pilots & Ground crew) Here goes anyway (pics are with a small digital camera which gives horrible results) Go easy guys!!! (Don't put me off)

Doubt mine will look as good as this - but as long as it keeps me happy!!! I note from your picture in your WIP thread that the box you have seems a different boxing - the one I have is a Mister Craft badged one (I'm guessing the same kit) - Anyway top job - interestingly the P23 Karas has the same offset Polish insignia.

And now for something completly different

Can I be nosey and ask what colours and type of paint you used - I have one of these (Christmas present sent all the way from Krakow - The GF is Polish) - I have read various articles re - Polish Khaki - I am currently building 2 Heller 1/72 P23 Karas - and have used Humbrol 155 (also I hate the light blue underside that many kits specify & used Humbrol 87 (Steel Gey, actually a light blue grey colour) as again I had read that the undersides tend not to quite so blue. On the Polish theme I have a PZL 11 to build also. -
With regards a Klear substitute see this post Klear Discussion I have used Quickshine (available from Lakeland) as it's pretty good as far as I can tell

Here's me thinking exactly the same thing 2 days ago - I use a plastic clamp (normally use for holding wings together while gluing) overnight - seems to do the trick.

John Awesome info thank you - The upright on the tail fin is more visible. They do look rather delicate. My model (or should I say very badly put together model) is a 1/72 and as I said I'm not that good and it's only a representation. Stretched sprue it is then - I am currently attempting the rigging (if that's the correct terminology) on the engine mount & wings. I was surprised that stretching the sprue was not as difficult as I thought it might be - although some of the sprue ends up a bit black and smokey - a quick coat of humbrol aluminium is called for. Thanks again for the awesome info - if I feel brave I might post a pic in the Ready for Inspection section (or in my case Ready for Ridicule!!!! - I am in constant awe of the stuff that is posted on here) here is a link to a hyperscale gallery that prompted the question:- Walrus Regards Gordon

Hi I'm building (badly) a 1/72 Airfix Supermarine Walrus MkII - In the Fleet Air Arm livery - Pacific Fleet 1945. I am attempting a representation (and I really mean a representation) of the rigging. During some googling to try and get an idea I have seen some larger scale versions, all be it in differing livery that have antenae wires running from posts on the top wing surfaces to a post on the top of the tail. The 1/72 Airfix kit does not contain these antenae posts, can anyone confirm (or otherwise) whether it would be correct for me to fashion some for my model from spare sprue and attach them? Thanks for any pointers

Went for the Hampden - Interested to see the result (I have a Valom Hampden & Hereford to do :-))
-
I was unable to get any of the old formula here in Glasgow - there was another thread regarding a product called Quickshine - imported from the USA by Lakeland Klear Substitute I have a bottle of it - and as far as I can tell it is fine (it is cloudy in the bottle) - I dipped a canopy and all seems ok - and have used it as a gloss coat prior to decaling, I should point out I use a hairy stick.

Came across this today - 189 Info I've just done the Airfix 1/72 version - not a great choice for my 3rd model following a 30year sabatical!!!
-
Thanks for the info - I am a bit away from starting the kits - but I may check the transparency fit tonight!

Does any have any comments re the Valom versions of the Hampden - Santa delivered my a Hampden & a Hereford (which I understand is a Hampden varient)?

A couple of my builds in video form
Savenosouls replied to dave41184's topic in Ready for Inspection - Aircraft
Nice build - built two of these as my first "return" to modelling adventure - I think the kit goes together really well - did one in each of the decal options - look rather good when sitting next to one another! Like the video idea. -
Cheers Cliff I might keep the Los - pronounced "Wash " (sorry can't do Polish squiggly letters) for the GB - look forward to it. - Time to go and finish my 2 P23's Karas (bit of a Polish theme I guess!!!!)
-
Santa delivered me 2 1/72 Valom Kits - A Hampden & Hereford (all the way from Poland - & yes I know they are Czech) - Would they be worthy of inclusion? or I also have a 1/72 P37 Los (or elk if you prefer the translation) Polish Bomber, cant remember the kit maker - Polish Manufacturer (something like Mister Model / Craft)? Let me know if any of the above are worthy of inclusion.

Buying kits online - why no listing of colours req ?
Savenosouls replied to s.thomas's topic in Paint
I used the Airfix site to order online - ordered on Wed lunchtime - models & humbrol paints landed on my office desk on the Friday lunchtime! Can't fault that service. One other thing - if you go to the Humbrol website - If I recall correctly there is a colour conversion chart type thing. -
Thanks for the info - downloading now - if I get them started I'll try and included them in the GB

Does anyone know the correct aircrew configuration for the Karas (Crucian Carp - by the way) - I know there are 3 crew, Pilot +2. Presumably the prone gunner down below - but does he double as the rear gunner - or is that duty performed by the other crew member - I like to put crew in - and have a box of "poseable" revel pilots. Any ideas anyone?
-
I have one of these in the stash - recently obtained from ebay for less than the cost of a new Airfix Kit!! Will be interested to see how you get on. Might put a pilot in it though.
-
I've got 2 off these kits now - starting the build soon - was helped out with a magazine article re colours - I'd be interested to know what colour of paint you used for the upper fuselage? I'm considering HU 155

For your info guys - check out this previous thread - I sourced a bottle yesterday & it looks the business Klear Alternative
